Sarah Palin Stands Up For Our Nation

Cindy Adams was right about a new Sarah Palin coalition. From Michael M. Phillips at the WSJ's Washington Wire:
Sarah Palin fans can expect to see a new Palin political organization surface as her memoir, “Going Rogue: An American Life,” hits the shelves next month.

“There will be an announcement about it coming up,” Palin associate Tim Crawford said Wednesday.
According to Phillips that's all that Crawford, who is the treasurer of SarahPAC. was willing to say about Stand Up For Our Nation, which Adams said was to be the name of the endeavor.

Phillips tried to get some information our of Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton, but Meg did not respond to his "numerous requests" for comment.

Why would Sarah Palin start another organization when she already has SarahPAC? That's because all PACs are not created equal. There are several different types.

SarahPAC, like Mitt Romney's Free & Strong America PAC and Mike Huckabee's Huck PAC, is what is known as a leadership PAC. This type of political action committee allows  a political figure to support other candidates. The funds it raises cannot be spent to directly support the owner of the PAC's own campaign, but FEC rules governing leadership PACs do allow the politician to use PAC funds for travel and to make donations to other campaigns.

There are also issue PACs or ideological PACs, which are political action committees devoted to national issues. We would hazard a guess that this is the type of organization that Stand Up For Our Nation -- if that is indeed to be its name -- will be. Examples of this type of PAC are moveon, org, The Club For Growth and the National Rifle Association.

Issue PACs operate under a different set of rules than do leadership PACs. So from Sarah Palin's point of view, this new PAC will work to her advantage because it expands her political options.

  1. OK
That's good then. However, I'm not too excited about the name. Not that I don't agree with it. It just doesn't "work."

Maybe all the marketing classes I took warped my perception????

The name is isn't inportant though. The function is.

    Go Sarah!

  2. Yeah, they may want to tinker with the name, but simpler is perhaps better. After all, behold how many so-called "elite" intellects wet their pants over "Hope" and "Change"...as if those terms had been newly coined by Barack.

Besides, I think Sarah's got to be wily when it comes to an ideological PAC title. Something like "Reclaim Our Nation!" might have more zest, but it would also cause the already-reactionary to overreact. Every citizen, on the other hand, can "stand up"...unless, of course, you're in a wheelchair at a Joe Biden event.

  4. "New Energy For America" would be better, but "Stand Up For Our Nation" is OK.

  5. Hi Josh, this is the first time I'm commenting on your blog, thanks for being so devoted to Sarah.

The title "Stand Up For Our Nation" sounds to me like a call to action. So it will probably be something with Sarah at the helm and the grassroots supporting her, kind of like what we are doing now, but in a more organized and practical way. It could be quite effective, we'll have to wait and see first what Sarah has in mind.

From what I have heard so far, it will be to support issues that are close to Sarah's heart and form coalitions of support for those issues.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how powerful George Soros's group is by using a "not-for-profit" entity to MISLEAD the public to action! (I really don't know how this unethical conduct could be legal and government approved but... oh well, that's Washington!)

Could it be that Sarah might use the same system to move the politicians to action?! With the grassroots supporting her, that could be one brilliant way to have a collective and very powerful voice in Washington...hmmm. I could like that idea!

  6. NY Palin Power ... You are absolutely correct. This new group is a call to action. Some people think it's an inelegant name, but that's not Sarah's style anyhow. If you want elegant, Mitt Romney's your guy. Ha!

What I notice about Sarah is that she is all about VERBS. Her governor's campaign was "Take a Stand." Her memoir is "Going Rogue" and now this committee will be "Stand Up for Our Nation."

Politicians throw around a lot of hopey changey fancy pantsy titles, but rarely do the include VERBS!!!!! In other words, they are mostly ALL TALK LITTLE ACTION.

Neither of Obama's memoirs included a verb.
(The Audacity of Hope, Dreams From My Father). His campaign included half a verb, Yes We Can _______(Can what?)

Mitt's memoir is lacking a verb:
(No Apologies: The Case for American Greatness)

Sarah is all about DOING things, not just TALKING about doing things.

Stand Up is PERFECT. It's the first step we all have to take.

  7. Something tells me that Gov. Palin has been given the exact sales figures for Going Rogue, and is about to harness both the tsunami of book sales, and the power of the grassroots, and steamroll whoever gets in her way.

  8. You got a reference in the latest online Newsmax newsletter. The link led to: http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/sarah_palin_new_PAC/2009/10/15/272751.html?s=al&promo_code=8CF9-1

The reference was: "The group Texas for Sarah Palin speculates that Palin is setting up what’s known as an issue, or ideological PAC, as distinguished from SarahPAC, a leadership PAC that allows her to support other candidates."
