Handel concedes GA governor primary race (Updated)

*
In a surprise move, Karen Handel has apparently conceded the Georgia GOP primary race for governor without waiting for the remaining absentee and military votes to be counted:
In a statement just released from the Handel campaign, she said she called Deal this morning to concede the nomination. The November ballot is now set. Deal will represent the GOP and face Democrat Roy Barnes and Libertarian John Monds.

Deal spokesman Brian Robinson said that U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, R-Ga., coordinated the phone call between Handel and Deal.

“They had a very good talk,” Robinson said. “Nathan congratulated her on a great campaign. She told him that she would not ask for a recount and that she would be on board to help the party to victory in November.”

Deal, Robinson said, “thanked her for her graciousness and said he looked forward to meeting with her in person. We thank her for putting the party first and saving us a lot of heartache. She has shown that she is putting Georgia first and we are greatly appreciative of her selflessness in this situation.”

According to the good congressman from Georgia its OK for Huckabee, Gingrich, and Romney to go around the country and make endorsements but when it comes to Sarah her endorsements are divisive and she should shut up and sit down!

Absolutely outrageous statement from this Deal supporter. While Handel is graciously trying to unite the party after the run off, Deal supporters are still out trashing Sarah!

  3. Josh - here is information to explain what the real motivation might be behind Kingston's attack on Sarah:

    http://savannahnow.com/share/blog-post/larry-peterson/2010-05-12/endorsement-edition-kingston-will-take-money-and-run

Kingston was a big backer and supporter of Mitt Romney in his Georgia 2008 presidential primary. Romney has since generously donated to Kingston's 2008 and current 2010 congressional campaign.

So why would Kingston be upset that Sarah would support a moderate? Afterall, Kingston endorsed the moderat Romney. Second, Kingston's district (Chatham) is moderate with Handel winning it over Deal both in the primary and the run off. So why would he be upset with Sarah endorsing Handel the moderate who Romney also supported.

The fact is he isn't upset with Sarah supporting a moderate. Instead, he is simply operating as Romney's operative here doing Mitt's dirty work. He is trying to discredit Sarah with Georgia conservatives in order to hurt her 2012 prospects in Georgia which in turn will help Romney.

I'm sure this entire attack has been closely planned with Romney's team.
