Georgia GOP gubernatorial candidates Karen Handel and Nathan Deal faced off in a Sunday night debate sponsored by Atlanta television station FOX 5:
One of the more memorable quotes of the debate came when Deal complained about the attack ads the Handel campaign were running against him. Handel, who has been endorsed by Sarah Palin, replied that the attack ads of the runoff were nothing compared to what will be seen after the GOP nominee is settled and Democrat Party candidate Gov. Roy Barnes takes his shots:
"This is a race for governor. Things are tough. Campaigns are tough. It's frankly time to put the big-boy pants on because, candidly, if you can't handle this, how are you going to handle Roy Barnes?"Update: A new Landmark Poll hows Handel leading Deal by 9 points.

Oh my. Hammer Time. You go girl!
ReplyDeleteKaren Handel's statements are impressive and progressive. Nathan Deal, you aren't being honest in your statement regarding negative adds. Credibility is everything in this race. Not sure you are an honest businessman and, I would not vote for you.
ReplyDeleteThe first poll of the runoff was released this afternoon by Landmark Communications. They are a local Republican connected political consulting/polling/communications firm in Atlanta - who are not connected to either Deal or Handel. They polled 800 likely Republican voters over the weekend with a margin of error of +/- 3.5%.
ReplyDeleteHandel leads Deal 46% to 37% with 17% undecided. In the primary Handel led Deal 34% to 23% so Deal has made little progress in closing the gap. Deal only leads in his own former congressional district; Handel piles up big leads in the three congressional districts of Atlanta (Fulton county - her home base); and, Handel has a slight lead over Deal in all other districts.
Surprisingly, there is NO gender gap. Handel in fact does slightly better with men than women; and, Deal does slightly better with women than men - but all within the margin of error. If this poll is correct, Handel looks like she will win - but getting out the vote will be key for Handel, especially in the Atlanta area where Sarah will appear the day before the vote.
