More than 1,000 fans of the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee are expected to line up today for a few words and her signature at a book-signing in Sioux City, just as others have in two dozen cities along her three-week book tour.Former Gov. But those other long lines in other cities have not included potential Palin supporters in the leadoff presidential nominating caucuses. That nuance to today's event has made her Iowa stop a focal point of the national political media.
"There is no doubt that her first visit to Iowa since the election carries significant political weight and adds a new element to the story," said David Chalian, political director for ABC News.

Besides being in Iowa, the Sioux City stop is politically significant. Like many of the stops on her monthlong, 30-city tour, it's friendly territory that she visited while campaigning for GOP presidential nominee John McCain last year.
Palin made her solo Iowa debut in Sioux City, the population center in Iowa's Republican-heavy 5th Congressional District. She drew more than 4,500 cheering supporters on a brisk Saturday morning in October last year.
Nearly 70 percent of Iowa Republicans, who would have first say in assessing her as 2012 presidential timber, view her favorably, according to The Des Moines Register's November Iowa Poll.

ReplyDeleteHopefully she'll be in Des Moines next time instead of three hours away. She actually had a larger group in Des Moines when she came in 2008 (approximately 10,000).
