WASILLA, Alaska -- Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office in a few weeks, she said during a news conference at her home Friday morning.
The governor gave no reason why she will resign, but there has been much speculation that she intends to run for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.reasons that by passing on a second term:
"Palin liberates herself from the political constraints that come with running for president while still in elected office."It will certainly give her the freedom to travel outside the state without being criticized by the Alaska media and her political opponents for "neglecting her duties" as governor.
Update: A tweet from the governor:
"We'll soon attach info on decision to not seek re-election... this is in Alaska's best interest, my family's happy... it is good, stay tuned"ADN story here, governor's press release here. More comprehensive statement here.
