Sarah Palin will resign as Alaska governor

From anchorage television station KTUU:
WASILLA, Alaska -- Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office in a few weeks, she said during a news conference at her home Friday morning.

The governor gave no reason why she will resign, but there has been much speculation that she intends to run for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.reasons that by passing on a second term:
"Palin liberates herself from the political constraints that come with running for president while still in elected office."
It will certainly give her the freedom to travel outside the state without being criticized by the Alaska media and her political opponents for "neglecting her duties" as governor.

Update: A tweet from the governor:
"We'll soon attach info on decision to not seek re-election... this is in Alaska's best interest, my family's happy... it is good, stay tuned"

  1. The only thing about this that bothers me is should she decide to run in 2012. Her opponents will use this to attack her as being an opportunist, among other things.

I personally hope she will run in 2012, but more importantly, I wish her the best in what she will do in the future.

  2. All of the talking heads are trying to say she's done.

Isn't that the same thing they said about Ronnie Reagan?

  3. Josh, go check out Fred Malek's Twitter, he seems to highly approve of Sarah's decision.

  4. Once again she proves to be a great leader. Nobody expected it; this took courage and vision, and it is the right thing to do. She will now take the leadership in speaking for the conservative movement on a national level. And she will run for President.
