No press allowed at Aug. 8 Event; Reuters miffed

Steve Gorman has a post up on Reuters' Front Row Washington blog, and his title -- "Media barred from Palin’s post-gubernatorial debut" -- indicates where Gorman's focus is. For the media, it's all about them.

Sarah Palin is expected to be the guest speaker at the 50th anniversary gala hosted by the Simi Valley Republican Women, Federated at the Ronald Reagan Library's Air Force One Pavillion, but her representatives have not yet confirmed that she will appear there. So it seems that the "no media" sanction comes from the organizers, not from the Palin camp. Perhaps the GOP women remember the way the media treated President Reagan before his death and didn't want them to dishonor his memory by their presence in the library  named for him.

Yet Gorman seems to want to blame Sarah Palin for the fact that Reuters and the rest of the state-controlled media are personna non grata at the gala by the wording of his post's title and the closing paragraph of his post:
In a reminder of her often-testy relations with the media, she took a parting shot at the press during her farewell address in Fairbanks, Alaska, on Sunday, saying: "Democracy depends on you. That’s why our troops are willing to die for you. So how about in honor of the American soldier you quit making things up?"
We wonder at what point the drive-by media became such whiney little brats. Was it before or after they got in bed with Barack Obama and Joe "The Gaffemaster" Biden?

  1. The hatred that some people have for this woman (now a private citizen) is so far off the charts that the only possible response for the rest of us is to laugh. She’s one of the most honest and conscientious politicians out there, somebody who actually made it a point to resign because the endless frivolous ethics complaints against her (for things like wearing a jacket with a corporate logo on it at some sporting event) were costing Alaska huge amounts of time and money and preventing her from getting anything done — yet some people are trying to pass her off as a dirty crook. Some people just have to have somebody to hate, I suppose.

But if the news people hate her as much as they clearly do, then why exactly should she invite them to any event at all? Let them follow along afterward and figure out what happened at the event without her help. She has no obligation to them. Screw them.

  2. Let hope Sarah and other conservatives will continue in this mode. The MSM has lost all cred's and deserves no consideration. This is a unique situation and new ground will have to broken. These pushy, left leaning press people have come to think that they are entitled to access. Nothing could be further from the truth. These are businesses pure and simple. Over the next political season(s) Sarah and the conservatives should go direct to the people and only give access to friendly media people. After this past year of media chicanery, the msm deserves to lose many of its former privileges. Believe me the voters will understand. Darvin Dowdy

  3. Podcasts, videoes, and op/eds posted on SarahPAC would be the best way for her to bypass the MSM, and go directly to the people. Doing interviews on Sarah Palin Radio is another option. Let the MSM go to SarahPAC to get their info, and since it is all under her control, they can lie or distort, but the evidence would be readily available for anyone to see or hear for themselves.
