Quote of the Day (November 22, 2010)

*
Tim Graham at NewsBusters:
Palin said she would like to be more open with journalistic professionals, but left Couric out of that category...

[...]

On Twitter, Howard Kurtz of the Daily Beast offered protest:
Palin on Couric: Won't "waste my time" w/ "reporter who already has such a bias." Name 1 Katie question that was unfair
Start with Couric asking Palin about another Great Depression, and then she turned around and protested to McCain that using phrases like "Great Depression" is reckless. Brent Baker offered an effective side-by-side comparison of the Palin and Biden treatments at the time.

  1. Someone should twitter Kurtz the following unfair question:

Couric: You've said, quote, "John McCain will reform the way Wall Street does business." Other than supporting stricter regulations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago, can you give us any more example of his leading the charge for more oversight?

The fair way to ask the question is "Can you give us some examples of Senator McCain leading the charge for oversight."

What Couric did was she disqualified McCain's principal achievements on that issue by asking the question the way she did.

It would be like interviewing Biden today and asking "Other than the passage of the health care law, can you tell us what President Obama has achieved on the issue of fixing the health care system?" What's Biden going to answer with when Obama's signature achievement (Yes, misguided and disastrous, but not from Biden's POV) is disqualified?
