Remember Talis Colberg? He's the former Alaska state attorney who was appointed by Gov. Sarah Palin, but resigned in February for what he said were personal reasons. He now has a new job. Colberg bested six opponents to be elected Tuesday as Matanuska-Susitna Borough mayor. In Alaska, boroughs are akin to counties, and borough mayor is the chief administrative officer of the juridiction. The position is known by different titles in different states. In Arkansas, for example it is called county judge, and in Kentucky it is county judge-executive, to distinguish it from judges who preside over a court of law.
If Colberg was looking for a less stressful postition than that he held as Alaska's Attorney General, he's found it. According to the
Anchorage Daily News:
The mayor's seat in Mat-Su involves more ceremony than policy making. The mayor does not run the local government, as in Anchorage. Rather, the mayor presides over meetings, appoints people to serve on various boards and acts as the public face of one of the fastest-growing areas of the state. The job pays a stipend of $19,235 per year, or $1,610 each month, plus travel expenses.

JP... it is Talis, not Tavis.
ReplyDeleteI know it's a typo. Not like I haven't done them.
JP. Also, Talis is only serving for 6 months and then there will be another election. This is due in part of the former mayor who died.
ReplyDeleteSadly, not a typo, but a brain fart. Probably because around here, the similar name Travis is nearly sacred, Col. William B. Travis being a hero of the Texas Revolution.
