McCain defends Palin; Palin defends Steele

*
The Arizona Republic reports that Sen. John McCain delivered a "full-throated defense" of his former running mate at a news conference in Phoenix Thursday and dismissed claims made in Game Change, a book written by two liberal reporters, that Sarah Palin was poorly vetted by his campaign:
"It was thorough, and it was complete, and I am so proud that Sarah Palin agreed to be my running mate," he said in response to a question about the vetting. "And the facts are stubborn things, as Ronald Reagan used to say. The fact is that it energized our party. It gave us a very much-needed impetus, and Sarah Palin's popularity continues very strongly to this day. And the hysterical attacks from the liberal left are ample indication of the threat that she poses to the liberal left and especially the feminist, radical-left
movement in this country."
Appearing on FOX News' "Hannity" Thursday night, former Governor Palin defended RNC Chairman Michael Steele for comments he has made recently that despite the Democrats' recent troubles, the Republican Party hasn't shown that it is ready to lead:
"I say after Michael Steele’s comments the other night, right on, more power to you, Michael," Palin said. "You’re calling it the way that you see it, and you deserve to call it that way."

Palin characterized Steele’s message as "buck up or stay in the truck, critics. If you don't want to help out, if you don't want to help the cause of getting these common-sense solutions to all these challenges facing us, then you know, go find something else to do."

To Steele’s critics, Palin said, "don’t just sit there throwing stones" over "inside baseball."

Following Steele's rough week, Palin said she sent him an e-mail to say that "99 percent of Americans don't know who these people are — the establishment — and they couldn’t care less about what’s going on internally."
