More Quote of the Day Honorable Mentions, Part 42

*
"Bachmann-Palin Overdrive" Edition...

Warren Adler:
"If you want to give people apoplexy in the circles I travel in on my daily rounds all you need to say, however bland or unthreatening, is that you admire Sarah Palin... I have learned every single laundry list argument against Sarah, a repetitive drumbeat of invective, most of it emotional, indignant and overwrought and, from my perspective, baffling... When I try a defense I normally get shouted down by people who, on other issues, profess worshiping the concept of free speech, justice, morality, and fairness. No rebuttal is acceptable... If I tell them that she has earned her political bona fides as a comeback kid after losing her bid for the Lieutenant Governor of Alaska, to beat the heck out of the good old boy network in Alaska to become Governor, they will look at me blankly. If I tell them she has served on a key energy committee of her state and fought and won a battle to run a natural gas pipeline from Alaska through Canada to the American midwest they will turn away in boredom."
Melissa Clouthier:
"For months, now, Palin's demise has been foretold in ominous tones and what amounts to cluck-clucking church gossip. Sarah Palin is still here. And she's going to be around... Let me just encapsulate it for you: How can someone so stupid do so well? Newsflash: She's not that stupid. And when she lines up against other politicians, we'll see how she does. It will be interesting to contrast. Don't you just want to see her debate health care with Mitt Romney? I know I do."
Cubachi:
"The New Republic published a post by John McWhorter called 'What Does Palin Speak Mean?' He is as snarky and condescending as he can be. One of the major problems in this society are these pseudo-intellectuals (Frum, Noonan, Buckley, etc) who cite speech as tangible evidence of a person’s IQ and abilities as an elected official. To me it’s just superficial... Obama was supposedly a great orator, a man ‘who conquered the English language in a way that would make Abraham Lincoln blush.’ These professorial types should be ashamed after their adamant praise of Obama reading off a TelePrompTer with pre-written speeches by a 24-year-old. Yet, an effective conservative leader like Sarah Palin gets smeared."
Jennifer Swift:
"Sarah Palin’s role on Fox News is as a commentator, not a journalist, according to media mogul and Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch also said ratings leap whenever the former Alaska governor is on, and 'we’re not adverse to high ratings.'"
Craig Crawford:
"This week's Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans marks an early turn toward the 2012 campaign... The headliner is likely to be Sarah Palin, as these influential conservatives try to figure out what she's up to -- making money or running for president. You have to wonder if Romney is skipping it to avoid being overshadowed by Palin speculation."
Martha Gore:
"In reality, it seems the constant badgering of Palin appears to have made people curious about her. Because of the arrogance of these pundits and their ridiculing of her every action and words, they give her constant publicity which helps to keep her in the public eye... What the elitist politicians and pundits don't seem to understand is that every time they debase her, it further enhances her new career and standing among her supporters. They are succeeding in making Palin a multimillionaire and a continuing force in America politics."
Mitt Romney:
"She brings a lot of energy and passion to the party, so her involvement in the state brings the silent majority to their feet and brings them a voice. It’s a positive energy in the conservative movement."
Gwyn Mellinger:
"Public interest in Palin is growing exponentially as the former Alaska governor crisscrosses the country making speeches that excite audiences on the political right... Liberals, moderates and those conservatives who believed Palin was a poor choice for the GOP ticket in 2008 underestimate her at their peril... Palin is the real deal. She is a bona fide folk hero... She is, without question, a dominant political force within the Republican Party, where she can mobilize support for candidates with her endorsement. Even if she never seeks office herself, she will be a factor in elections for years to come."
Dan Riehl:
"This strikes me as tangential to Waxman's immediate call for hearings because some corporations disclosed financial information, as required by law, after ObamaCare passed. Now, we have California lawmakers launching investigations into fund raising events paid for with private funds because Sarah Palin is involved? The Left doesn't shy away from abusing power and the media seems content to not hold them accountable for it, as they would were Republicans involved. Welcome to Amerika, folks."
Mike's America:
"What if Obama Were Held to the Same Standard as Sarah Palin? 'O' claims to be a White Sox fan yet can’t name one player and goofs the name of the ball park! And they call Sarah Palin an idiot?"
Ed Morrissey:
"Did Sarah Palin have the crowd in Minnesota eating out of the palm of her hand? You betcha! It started well before she teased the attendees that she was happy to be in a crowd of people who talk just like she does, or giving us credit for naming our 10,000 lakes. Michele Bachmann introduced her and Palin returns the favor by issuing repeated endorsements for Bachmann’s re-election. Palin delivers a funny and impassioned speech that doesn’t disappoint."
Marc Schenker:
"How do you fire up a crowd of conservatives? Why, just get two of the most popular conservative gals together at the Minneapolis Convention Center for a rally and have them throw proverbial red meat at the crowd. Then sit back and enjoy the results... From the sheer size, energy and intense motivation of the crowd that came out to see GOP heavy-hitters in Palin and Bachmann, it would appear Republicans are ready not only for battle in the midterms, but to all-out crush Democrats in their principled will to take back Congress for real Americans. If the engagement between Palin and Bachmann and the crowd was any indication, it sure looks like the GOP has all the advantage going in to the midterms, the advantage being reflected in the intensity of party loyalists to get out and vote. This is also substantiated by poll after poll, which consistently has the GOP ahead by convincing margins over Democrats for control of Congress."
Three fingers of Politics:
"On Sean Hannity’s Fox News show on April 7, two female conservative figures that are arguably the most reviled by the left appeared together from a political rally broadcast live in Minneapolis. Playing to the crowd, Hannity proposed the 2012 dream ticket — not because it would ever likely happen in American presidential politics, but because it would give the likes of Chris Matthews and Randi Rhodes aneurysms during the... election cycle – Sarah Palin & Michele Bachmann 2012."
Taylor Marsh:
"Sarah Palin has challenges if she’s thinking about 2012, no doubt; but there are plenty of opportunities to change minds her way, according to the CBS poll... The truth is that the CBS poll offers some hope for Palin and her people, if the crowds and cash aren’t enough. For all the 'she’s a wacko' storyline, there are a lot of people who remain undecided about Sarah, even as the traditional media continues to offer stereotypical 'Low Favorability Ratings for Sarah Palin' headlines, even if the data screams a different and more important story... Mrs. Palin’s politics aren’t for me, and though I pine to see hot headliners from the left, instead we get the likes of Claire McCaskill, Kathleen Sebelius and other Obama blue dog duds, with no women of any wattage in sight."
Matthew Continetti:
"Earlier this week, I wrote that Palin is assuming a new role as a conservative vanguard, a charismatic leader who summons the masses to battle. That is clearly what she was up to in Minnesota. The crowd, the rhetoric, the energy all confirmed that the balance of enthusiasm favors the GOP... If you think Palin and Bachmann drive liberals crazy now, just wait until the 112th Congress convenes in January 2011, when there will be dozens of Palins and Bachmanns. The reaction will be like a David Lynch movie. Heads will explode."
