HuffPo, gossip columnists caught in another lie against Sarah Palin

*
When we reported Wednesday that Sarah Palin visited the Silver Spoon and made a sizable donation to the Red Cross, we warned that "The liberals, as with everything she does, will not be pleased." We were right.

Leftist website Huffington Post and a number of other hateful leftist and gossip sites wasted no time in bearing false witness against former Gov. Palin. This is nothing new; they have been lying about her for the past 18 months. But this whopper was particularly nasty, as the lying lefties took a story about Gov. Palin making a generous contribution to charity and portrayed her as selfish and uncaring.

We were sent a heads up by Andrew Malcolm on the original LA Times story we ran Wednesday. It was written by Matt Donnelly, one of Andrew's blogging colleagues at the Times. When we saw the HuffPo smear job, we told Andrew about it, and his reply simply stated that Donnelly had gotten it right.

Well, of course he did. We never doubted Andrew's word or the report for a second. He's a friend and a fellow blogger who has our trust. We just wanted to let him know that HuffPo was casting dispersion on Donnelly's report. Who are we going to trust -- a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist of sterling character, or an Arianna Huffington website with a history of prevarication? No contest. But the moonbatosphere has gone wild repeating the lie.

Now Melissa Lemer, one of the Silver Spoon's co-owners, has released a statement (PDF) detailing the actual facts of Governor Palin's visit and calling for those websites which spread the false stories to publish retractions immediately and apologize to Gov. Palin, The Silver Spoon and its vendors:
The Silver Spoon, a company owned and operated by women and established with a firm belief in supporting women in business and leadership, invited Governor Sarah Palin and her family to participate in a charitable function sponsored by The Silver Spoon and the Red Cross to support the Red Cross’ disaster relief efforts in Haiti. Governor Palin graciously accepted since it was in support of such a worthy and timely cause. The governor arrived with a small group about 15 minutes prior to our store’s official opening; and upon arrival, she and her entire group gave generous donations to the cause. We offered to open early to accommodate her schedule; she did not ask us to open early. The other vendors routinely set up an hour before the event opens, so they were already there when the governor arrived. No one was asked to come in early. When Governor Palin arrived, she and her guests made generous donations. I escorted her around and introduced her to every vendor, and they talked to her about their products and gifted her with samples. She never asked for anything but politely accepted the products. The governor and her family and guests were very gracious and respectful to everyone. We asked and the governor happily agreed to take a photo with the American Red Cross staff and the staff of The Silver Spoon. The governor stayed for a total of about 35 minutes, thanked everyone, made an additional generous personal donation pledge to the Red Cross, and then departed.

The stories currently circulating about Governor Palin’s attendance at our event are total fabrications. Just one example of the many falsehoods is the ridiculous idea that Governor Palin walked away with 40 AIAIAI headphones. In reality, she was given two pairs of AIAIAI headphones – one for herself and one for her daughter Bristol who could not attend the event. The idea that she took 40 pairs is an outrageous falsehood. It would have been impossible because the vendors only bring around 100 items for the entire two day event. They would have run out of product after an hour of opening yesterday.

Just to clarify things, the entire point of giving someone a swag bag is to have them take your product and hopefully purchase more. The whole point of giving away products is to “give them away.” That’s why we call this type of event style a “gifting suite.”

We would like an immediate retraction and an apology to The Silver Spoon, its vendors, and especially to Governor Sarah Palin.
Those retractions and apologies may be a long time coming. The left is quick to spread its lies but loathe to admit and retract them.

It rare that we have occasion to compliment the Associated Press, but the AP, to its credit, mentioned Gov. Palin's donation to the Red Cross in the first paragraph of its report (though the headline is misleading):
WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Sarah Palin showed up at a celebrity gift suite with two daughters, her brother and a small entourage in tow and loaded up with free cosmetic and fashion items being given away in connection with Oscar-week festivities. But she also left a check for charity, organizers say.
The AP story, which carries Sandy Cohen's byline, also quoted Ben Russo, a publicist who was at the event, regarding Gov. Palin's donation:
Silver Spoon spokesman Ben Russo said Palin made an unspecified "sizable contribution" to Red Cross Haitian relief before leaving the suite. Although Silver Spoon is not affiliated with the Red Cross, most Hollywood gift suites feature an opportunity for visitors to donate to a charity, if desired.

"Silver Spoon was very grateful (Palin) brought awareness to our Red Cross relief effort," said Russo. "We were happy to supply her and her family with some of our sponsor product."
So Bravo Zulu, Mr. Cohen and AP, but please fix that headline. Bravo Zulu to Matt Donnelly and the LA Times for getting it right the first time. Kudos to Just Jared for being one of the very few gossip sites to mention Gov. Palin's donation. Thanks to Melissa Lemer and Silver Spoon for standing up for the truth. Shame on Huffington Post and the other sites who propagated their falsehoods as part of the lying Left's continuing effort to denigrate Sarah Palin.

h/t: Doug Brady/C4P

Update: A shout out to Celebrity Mound for telling it true:
"A spy said, 'She picked up a ton of gifts, but she gave the lot to the Red Cross, along with a cash donation. The only thing she took for herself was a bottle of Ty Ku sake.'"
Also a good follow up post by Christie D'Zurilla at Ministry of Gossip, the LA Times entertainment blog which should be an example to all entertainment websites for honest reporting.

And a call for corrections and retractions from Big Journalism.

Fox News: Sarah Palin Presenting Alaska Documentary Idea to Networks

*
Fox News reports that Sarah Palin is meeting with television executives this week to present her proposal for a documentary about her home state:
Despite several media reports that the project was a reality show, Fox411 confirms that it is a documentary that will focus on the people, geography and wildlife of Alaska. A source close to Palin says the show has absolutely nothing to do with her personal life or her family.

Palin is teaming up with “Survivor” creator Mark Burnett and Robert Barnett to produce the project, sources tell Fox. The group is in Los Angeles this week meeting with network heads about the documentary, and there is already “great interest” in it. In total, the group will meet with six different networks.
Unlike Vice President Biden, who doesn’t "have to do anything," the former governor adds yet another Palin Project to her busy schedule. After her grand slam appearance on Jay Leno's show Tuesday, Gov. Palin's publisher announced Wednesday that she's started work on writing a second book. She's booked for about twenty-five speaking engagements clear into October and will also campaign for candidates John McCain and Michele Bachmann. And on top of all this, she's a Fox News contributor with a full family life.

Update: The Hillbuzz guys think Sarah's proposed documentary is a swell idea. A video of Chris Wallace setting the record straight is here, and a AP report which has the story correct is here.

Quote of the Day (March 3, 2010)

*
Matthew Continetti:
"Palin's stint on Jay was one of her better interviews. The questions weren't tough, but the governor was comfortable, articulate, warm, and funny. It also helped that the audience -- or, rather, the vocal part of the audience -- was clearly on her side. And she can tell a joke. This is a talented and charismatic woman who, despite everything, is not to be underestimated."

Publisher: Sarah Palin already working on her second book

*
Her publisher announced Wednesday that Gov. Sarah Palin is already at work on a second book which will be a "celebration of American virtues and strengths":
Palin's memoir, Going Rogue, released last fall by HarperCollins, has sold more than 2 million copies. Her new work will "include selections from classic and contemporary readings that have inspired her, as well as portraits of some of the extraordinary men and women she admires and who embody her love of country, faith, and family," the publisher's statement reads.

[...]

In an e-mail Wednesday, HarperCollins publisher Jonathan Burnham said that "a number of ideas and concepts" were explored with Palin. "This is the idea which appealed the most to her," he said, adding that she is currently "gathering ideas and identifying favorite texts and examples."
According to HarperCollins, neither a title nor a release date has yet been assigned to the new book, as Gov. Palin is in the research phase of her work.

Though some Palin supporters will be disappointed that her follow up to Going Rogue will not be a tome for policy wonks, a volume with an inspirational and positive message may be just the right book at the right time. Americans could use some of both during this period of malaise ushered in by the Democrat's takeover of Congress in 2006 and the election of Barack Obama two years later.

We are reminded of JFK's Profiles in Courage, his 1955 book which not only won the young Senator a Pulitzer Prize and a great deal of admiration and respect, but helped him win the White House in 1960. Gov. Palin doesn't need to write a Pulitzer winner, but a book which celebrates the best of America and Americans would be the perfect "in-between" book to be bracketed by her memoir and a third book on policy later on.

This is another very smart move by Sarah Palin, in our opinion.

Sarah Palin makes Red Cross donation in Hollywood

*
Andrew Malcolm e-mailed us from the Left Coast to let us know what Sarah Palin has been up to in LA-LA Land. The Liberals, as with everything she does, will not be pleased:
Sarah Palin stopped by the Silver Spoon Oscar Suite with daughter Willow and grandson Tripp.

Benefiting the Red Cross, the swag suite snagged the former vice presidential candidate for photo ops and gifting from beauty and luxury sponsors. At the Interior Illusions store in West Hollywood, Palin received jewels from Pascal Mouawad, watches by Skagen and Unite hair care products.

I'm told the oft-parodied politico donated all of her gift items back to the Silver Spoon for auction, as well as about $1,700 of her own cash, in support of multiple Red Cross efforts, including those in Haiti and Chile.
How dare she! Why, the nerve of That Woman!

"Getting the Left all wee-wee'd up" Edition...

Maggie's Notebook:
"Sarah Palin appeared on Jay Leno's second, new Tonight Show. Goal: keep getting the Left wee-wee'd up. Take a look, she is a natural and is getting more and more comfortable in front of the camera."
Jim Hoft:
"Sarah Palin tried her hand at standup comedy last night on Leno. Her Double McTwist 1260 joke was a hit."
Tennessee Guerilla Women:
"Even when she's on the other channel, they can't stop themselves from obsessing over her."
William Teach:
"When it comes to Sarah Palin, much like George Bush and Ronald Reagan, people either love her or hate her. It appears as if the the regular folks out in Los Angeles love her."
Theodore's World:
"Sarah was FABULOUS! Even did her own comedy routine which was hysterical! At one point she said "Oh, I like to get the Left all wee-wee'd up." LOL... I think Sarah was having a lot of fun...and rightfully so."
Snowed In:
"The crowd, amazingly... appeared to be rather pro-Palin. That, or they're incredibly polite Dems who will now have to give up their posting privileges at the Huffington Post."
Taylor Marsh:
"Palin kept the audience, because she was a good sport about it and seemed to be having fun... Palin did herself some good, poking fun and laughing with Leno."
TheRightScoop:
"I was nervous, but I’m not sure why because she was fabulous... All in all it was a great night for her."
Ed Morrissey:
"The main takeaway will be how poised and engaging Palin is... Palin demonstrates how well she has grown into her role. It’s well worth the long watch, and an impressive performance."
Melissa Clouthier:
"Sarah Palin helped Jay Leno last night... Palin just won't go away and she keeps subtly building support... And she represents a populace (which is a huge percent of the American people) who feel ignored and not listened to...at all. She got applause in California. The Southern Republican Leadership Conference sure is going to be interesting."
Ron Devito:
"Governor Palin has a strong objective ego and is able to laugh at and poke fun at her own self. Jay Leno and Gov. Palin had a good rapport and played off each other. Her wardrobe and demeanor were relaxed, poised and appropriate to the venue. The outcome was a very enjoyable 14:35 that left the viewer wanting more."
Rachel Ray:
"The return of Jay’s desk was in fact the most interesting part of an off-pace premiere... But by last night, with star guest Sarah Palin, the malaise had evaporated... Spot-on political humor is the bedrock of a successful late-night talk show and the entrance of Sarah Palin... accelerated an already humming performance. The breezy conversation between Leno and sizzling hot media star Palin is just what viewers want."
An e-mailer in the biz:
"Speaking as a comedy professional, I can tell you that she was quite good. Her material was B-plus at best, but she was remarkably at ease, considerably more comfortable onstage than many talk show hosts, especially at the beginning of their careers... Sarah knew where the laughs would be, didn't oversell, and didn't panic when she didn't score."
Patrick S. Adams:
"What was the highlight of Leno? Sarah Palin. What was the highlight of Letterman? Sarah Palin. Nice going, David. You get Sarah Palin's rival for 2012 to make Sarah Palin look good while he at the same time turns the rifle back on you! David Letterman wanted to pit Romney against Palin to stick it to Leno. But it backfired."
Kristine Gasbarre:
"Does Jay Leno know what he's doing or what? It's his first week back on The Tonight Show, and the most controversial woman in [America], Sarah Palin, made an appearance Tuesday night, dressed down in jeans and a blazer for an eight-minute interview. Palin also stood up for a standup routine, and her apparent ease is making some people...uneasy."
John Nolte:
"Wow. This audience loves her and only grows to love her more as the interview rolls on. About ten minutes in she shows more guts than any politician maybe ever by agreeing to make her stand up debut … on The Tonight Show … in front of a Los Angeles audience. What poise. If Sarah Palin can win over this audience in this way in one of the bluest regions of the country, if I were Barbara Boxer I’d be pretty worried right now."
Closet Conservative:
"Teh Awesome... Looking very relaxed and sounding very comfortable with herself."
Daniel Stone:
"Leno announced that Palin would be making her "comedy debut" (wait, didn’t she do Saturday Night Live?) with a stand-up routine that turned out to be, well, actually pretty good. Comedy can be fleeting in politics, trust me, but Palin had some good zingers."
Larry Johnson:
"The woman is an extraordinary talent... Comedy is tough. Even great comics with good writers bomb. She killed on the Leno Show. While this does not mean she would make a great President we certainly must acknowledge that she took on a very tough challenge (stand up comedy) and knocked it out of the park."
Bucks Right:
"Sarah Palin appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno reboot last night. She did incredibly well, and there were some applause lines where you’d be surprised to find them with a left-coast audience. Things like tax cuts for people who create jobs, sticking it to the leftward media, getting the left 'all wee-wee’d up,' and a discussion of the Tea Party movement garner wild support from the studio audience."

Palin-Leno crush Letterman-Romney in TV ratings

*
With Sarah Palin as his featured guest, Jay Leno on Tuesday night continued his domination of rival David Letterman in the ratings:
Jay Leno had a solid second night back on “The Tonight Show” Tuesday night, thanks in part to a special opening monologue from his lead guest, Sarah Palin.

Mr. Leno easily won the late-night ratings competition across the board with 5.8 million viewers and a 1.6 rating among the 18-49 audience that NBC always points to as the main measure of success (because of advertiser preferences for that group.)

The younger-adult rating matched Mr. Leno’s Monday night number, one indication that Ms. Palin helped maintain the tune-in factor from Mr. Leno’s first night back.
Letterman, whose featured guest Tuesday was Mitt Romney, reached 3.7 million viewers Tuesday, 2.1 million fewer than Leno attracted, and his 1.0 rating in the 18-49 group also trailed Leno's 1.6.

Romney: Sarah Palin is qualified to be president

*
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney exploded a few heads on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program Wednesday when he told the show's usual suspects that he believed former Alaska Gov. and 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is qualified to be president.

Romney was on the program to promote his book No Apologies: The Case for American Greatness. In response to direct questions from co-host Joe Scarborough, he also said that George W. Bush was a good president and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is a true conservative.

Early Reaction: Sarah Palin on The Tonight Show

*
Andrew Malcolm:
Sarah Palin popped up on Jay Leno's revived NBC "Tonight Show" tonight and poked a little fun at herself by writing Jay's introduction cue notes on her hand.

[...]

Palin also did her debut standup routine as a comedian:
Hello. Thank you, Jay. Thank you. I'm so happy to get to be here. This is a thrill of ...a lifetime really. And Alaska, being so different from Los Angeles. Here when people have a frozen look on their face, I find out it's Botox. (Laughter.)

It is so beautiful here, though, so warm and beautiful. Back home, ooh, it was freezing. It was 5 degrees belowCongress' approval rating.....

Shaun White on the show. Oh, what an amazing athlete. I watched him do a double McTwist 1260, and the only other people to do a double McTwist 1260 was last week: the White House on healthcare.
She'll be here through 2012, folks.
Free Republic live thread (with pics):
On the media’s treatment of her children:
"I think, yes, that a line was crossed there. And I’m still waiting for that line to be uncrossed. Just some common decency, allowing the kids to not be the — I guess kind of a victim in all this, because they certainly don’t deserve it. I have very strong, independent, well-adjusted kids. And I so respected that the media had left other politicians’ kids alone. I would just ask for the same treatment."
On the Tea Party movement:
"It is an uprising of the people — (Applause) — an uprising of the people to say, 'Hey, Government, we are not to be working for you. You are to be working for us. Let’s get government back on our side.' So heaven forbid the Tea Party movement think that they need an individual, a politician to put their faith in, to be their leader."

Sarah Palin's one-liners on Leno's show

*
Sarah Palin, during the taping for the new "Tonight Show" on NBC, had almost as many one-liners as host Jay Leno dropped in his monologue:
Palin says the White House health care plan reminds her of acrobatic flips done on a snowboard. And she jokes that it's so cold in Alaska it's "5 degrees below Congress' approval rating."

And she poked fun at herself too.

Palin told Leno's audience she planned to speak at a gun-rights convention and warned them, "Be there or else."
The 2008 GOP vioe presidential nominee also joked that she's going to play Tina Fey in an upcoming Las Vegas show.

Romney warns Letterman: 'She has a rifle, you know'

*
Don Bartletti reports that Mitt Romney, guesting on Letterman's show, answered the creepy  host's question to him about Sarah Palin with the quintessential quip:
She’s terrific. She’s got energy, passion – by the way, you know, be careful what you say about her.”

Letterman says he knows.

Romney adds with a smile, “She has a rifle, you know.”

Kevin Fobbs: Millions will witness Sarah Palin as a true heartland comeback on Leno

*
In an op-ed published on Renew America's website, Kevin Fobbs, president of the National Urban Policy Action Council, says even her detractors realize that Gov. Palin "just might have the right stuff to stir a nation much in the same way that Ronald Reagan" did thirty years ago:
Sitting down to watch The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Sarah Palin is an event that perhaps lends itself to a degree of preparation as well as creating a comfortable setting. After all it was just over a year earlier when a new president had been sworn in and many in the upper elite of the liberal Washington punditry felt Sarah Palin had been summarily dismissed from our national consciousness...or so they wished.

Now a year-plus later, "Sarah Who" is now "Sarah Wow." Like President Reagan who rose from the wreckage of the 1976 battle with then-President Gerald Ford to capture the White House and recapture the soul of America thirsting for change and clarity, Jay Leno will host and America will witness on Tuesday night Sarah Palin as a true heartland comeback.
Fobbs' recommendations for Tonight Show prep are in his full opinion piece here.

Linda Hirshman: Enter the Sarah Palin Brigade

*
Linda Hirshman's article about four female candidates at the Daily Beast is worth the read, even though it has been marinated in leftist attitude. Here are some snippets:
Longtime Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison is either going to lose the Republican primary for governor of Texas today or, at best, lose in a runoff with Rick Perry in a couple of months. With Hutchison's retirement from the Senate, the Republicans are down to three female members. Will Congress' Republican caucus now go overwhelmingly male, just as it has already gone all white?

Maybe not: Enter the Sarah Palin Brigade.

[...]

Republicans are popping out Palin variations all over the place. Women are making impressive showings in at least four Republican primaries where the GOP stands a reasonable chance of taking the Senate seat in the general.

And these aren't your mother's Hutchison Republicans: the 60-plus, first-women-in-their-law-school class types who have few or no children, are mildly pro-choice and fiscally conservative—ladies who came into politics, whether they admit it or not, in the wake of the feminist movement. Like their precursor, the mini-Palins—Jane Norton (Colorado), Sue Lowden (Nevada), Kelly Ayotte (New Hampshire), and Cherilyn Eagar (Utah)—are all under (most well under) 60, beautiful, impressively fecund, unreservedly conservative, and stonily pro-life.
Actually, Sue Lowden is viewed as the Republican Party’s establishment candidate because she is currently Chairman of the Nevada GOP. Her primary opponent, Jerry Tarkanian, is the more conservative of the two. But to liberal pundits such as Hirshman, all conservatives look the same in terms of ideology, i.e., "right-wingers."

Update: Little Miss Atilla agrees:
"Linda Hirshman is right up there with Frank Rich in her insightful insightfulness."

Bernie Quigley: Sarah and Rick vs. the Vichy Republicans

*
Excerpts from Bernie Quigley's latest, posted on The Hill's Pundit's Blog:
The New York Times’ venomous and possibly deranged Frank Rich, who associated Sarah Palin with terrorism in his Sunday column this week, borrows from his previous archrival George Will in the claim that the White She Devil is a critter from hell and anyway, she will never be elected.

[...]

But what is most telling comes up in Texas in the middle, where the Romney team, including Cheney, H.R. Bush, Boy George’s proxy Karen Hughes and Karl Rove, has lined up to take out Perry in his primary race against Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. White She Devil supports Perry.

Interesting that key liberal opinion makers Rich and Letterman seek and find traditional enemies Romney and Will to face down that force of nature which is Sarah Palin.

[...]

Call these now the Vichy Republicans.

Perry’s victory... will be overwhelming, with Gov. Palin’s endorsement, and Perry and Palin will bring a new face to American politics.
Is the unabridged original post here worth the read? You betcha!

Rick Perry for Governor; Bill Flores for U.S. Rep. (Updated)

*
It's election day in Texas, and we stand with Sarah Palin in support of Gov. Rick Perry. Unlike either of his opponents, Gov. Perry is a Ronald Reagan conservative. We strongly believe that he is the best bet to defeat liberal Democrat Bill White in the general election.

We also endorse Bill Flores for the U.S. Congress. Like Gov. Palin, Flores understands that energy is an issue of national security. Flores is an advocate for domestic oil and gas production, and he also sees the need for nuclear and alternative fuels to meet the nation's energy needs. Bill Flores is a champion of limited government, and we see him as the best of the bunch in the District 17 GOP primary to send Democrat Chet Edwards packing in November.

Follow the election results tonight here.

Sarah Palin Was Right #27: ObamaCare and the Marquis de Sade

*
Scragged contributing editor Petrarch writes in "ObamaCare and the Marquis de Sade" that more people now believe Sarah Palin was right about death panels than when she first made the charge:
The more Americans hear about the Democrats' plans, the better they understand the details, the more powerful and active their fear and loathing becomes.

Sarah Palin attacked Obamacare as creating "death panels" nearly a year ago; the Democrat response was that this was a lie. Shouldn't a year be sufficient to debunk a false accusation?

Unfortunately for Mr. Obama, after his year of persuasion, explanation, town meetings, and providing fodder for talk shows, more people believe that Palin was right about death panels than when she first leveled the charge. This is in large part because both England and Canada's national health systems have what amount to "death panels" that refuse treatments based on expense or age. England's "death panel" even comes with the photogenically Orwellian acronym of NICE. A whole lot more Americans have heard of NICE today than had a year ago. They didn't like what they heard, they believe it's an integral part of Obamacare, and they want no part of it.

What happens when an out-of-control government rams a policy down the throats of the American people that they do not want? History records the Whiskey Rebellion, the violence of Prohibition, and, of course, the Civil War; surely we don't want to follow those examples?
Petrarch is erred on one detail, however. Gov. Palin first mentioned death panels in an August 7 Facebook op-ed, which would make it almost eight months ago, rather than nearly a year.
