Lorie Byrd Reviews 'Sarah Palin's Alaska'

*
Excerpts from Lorie Byrd's review of "Sarah Palin's Alaska" for Big Hollywood:
Will TLC’s new reality show, Sarah Palin’s Alaska, make you want to book a vacation to “America’s last frontier?” You betcha, it will. It will also give you a glimpse inside the Palin family and into the life of one of the most famous and interesting women in the world.

The star of the show may be Sarah Palin, but she shares equal billing with the breathtaking Alaskan wildlife and countryside. In the first episode we see a fierce mama brown bear and her cubs fishing just yards away from a small boat where the Palins are casting their lines. Watching them interact so intimately with nature (wild bears for goodness sake!) is something you don’t see every day. Actually it is pretty incredible.

Also in the premier episode, through top notch photography and production, we see beautiful footage of Mt. McKinley and learn a little bit about what is involved in climbing the largest mountain in North America.

The Palins don’t just give us a tour, flying from remote location to remote location. They share the experience – boating, fishing, hiking and even mountain climbing – doing it themselves. At times they challenge their own weaknesses and limitations (for example, mountain climbing in spite of a fear of heights).

[...]

Even though Palin has lived her whole life in Alaska, she frequently talks about being in “awe” of the beauty around her. Upon landing on Ruth Glacier she said she got “goose bumps.” Seeing the beauty of Palin’s part of the country, the absolute majesty of God’s creation, and how she challenges herself in her adventures there, it is understandable how Palin might think nothing of challenging the power in Washington, DC.

Quote of the Day (November 13, 2010)

*
Meredith Jessup at The Blaze:
"In one of the more amusing attempts to discredit Glenn Beck’s week-long expose on billionaire George Soros’ unparalleled influence in global politics, Salon’s Justin Elliott reports that one of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin‘s aides is actually on Soros’ payroll. Scandal! Uh, not quite... The fact that one individual obviously knowledgeable on international politics advised the one-time vice presidential contender is moot, and extending this individual connection and extrapolating a wider relationship between Scheunemann‘s entire firm and Soros’ global business empire is a stretch, to say the very least. After an entire week of reporting the questionable agenda and unchallenged facts presented in Beck’s look at the 'puppet master,' is this seriously the best, er, refutation (?) the left can come up with?"

Frazier Moore of The Associated Press:
"Whatever you may think of Sarah Palin, the fact remains Alaska is magnificent with her as its presenter. 'Sarah Palin’s Alaska,' premiering Sunday on TLC, adds 'TV host' to Palin’s crowded resume, which already includes former governor, former GOP vice presidential candidate, best-selling author and conservative superstar. Palin also is a wife, a mother of five and a grandmother, of course, and her new series integrates her home life with Alaska’s great outdoors... Judging from the first of eight episodes, 'Sarah Palin’s Alaska' keeps politics out of the picture. Sure, the show is effective in selling the Palin brand. But along the way, Palin throws herself into selling the grandeur of Alaska."
Melissa Clouthier via Liberty Pundits:
"I think that the left is not going to like it, NOT because she comes off poorly, but because she comes off so humanly and well."
Mike Scotti, guest blogging at at You Served:
"Sarah Palin’s Alaska... is scheduled to premiere November 14, 2010 at 9/8c on TLC. The show looks to take viewers into the country’s ‘final frontier’ through the eyes of one of its most famous citizens – Sarah Palin. Produced by Mark Burnett Productions, I knew that the show would be extremely well made and that it would engage the audience. I was not disappointed. But I was not prepared for the truly awe-inspiring beauty of the Alaskan landscape. Sweeping shots of glacial mountain ranges. Emerald waters in which Sarah and her daughters fish for salmon. Grizzly bears in the rugged, undisturbed wilderness. After the first five minutes of the show, I was wishing that I could hop on a plane with a rucksack and a few weeks off to go and see it for myself."
Jim Geraghty at NRO's Campaign Spot:
"...the program does seem set to reveal the personality of a major political figure in a truly groundbreaking manner."
Guy T. Wehman at NightbeatRadio.com"
"Many critics are out there slamming Sarah and the making of this series as merely a ploy to lure people into her camp so that she can run in the upcoming presidential election for 2012. All I have to say is 'Tough!' Get over it! Sarah is a bit of fresh air in the media din that drones on night after night. Her values are wholesome and straight from the heart. The Alaskan scenery should be enough to command at least a one time 'look-see'"
Thomas S Schmitz at Jefferson's Rebels:
"People will see the vast wilderness of Alaska and the beauty of God's creation that Sarah talks about all the time. It truly is a great wonder, a majestic place that so fills Sarah's heart."
Jennifer Graham Kizer at ivillage.com:
"Sarah Palin’s Alaska (TLC, Sunday, Nov.14, 9 p.m. ET) turns out to be more of a travelogue than a laundry-airing vanity project. Palin and various family members embark on legitimate adventures amidst captivating scenery and fascinating wildlife. Alaska itself is so magnificent, and the filming is so well done, that even Palin haters will feel a sense of awe. Many find her annoying when she brags about her state, but no one can dispute that her state is, indeed, breathtakingly beautiful... The show is about Palin, not Alaska. But at times the state does upstage its former governor. And to her credit, Palin obviously doesn’t mind..."
Stephanie at My Kids Made Me This Way:
"I think I shouldn’t like her, but damned if I don’t LOVE her. I can’t wait to watch Sarah Palin’s Alaska on Sunday. I will vote for her if given the chance, count on that."
Michelle Horstman at NewsReal Blog:
"TLC's new series, 'Sarah Palin’s Alaska' premieres this Sunday night, Nov. 14th, despite the best efforts of her detractors to shut it down. What might appear on the surface to be an effort by those who oppose her views on conservation and hunting issues is, in reality, backed by the usual suspects who seek to shut down any voices who do not go along with their progressive agenda. Those who claim to be the biggest advocates of free speech continue to prove that their brand of free speech only applies to speech (and programming) that fits with their ideology; no others need apply... Whether you are a fan of Sarah Palin or not, I strongly suggest you watch every minute of TLC’s production; if not for what you might learn about Palin, than just for the sheer pleasure of driving the usual suspects crazy with the ratings. Will I be watching? You betcha!"
Doug Ross at Director Blue:
"I don't care what you think about Sarah Palin's viability as a presidential candidate, one thing is for certain... She has a much better, much more refined and self-deprecating sense of humor than certain other folks currently serving in office."
Lori Brenneman via Conservatives 4 Palin:
"Having just come from a pre-screening of 'Sarah Palin's Alaska', I must start by saying that this is a true feel-good series. It was fun. And that, I believe, is the intent here. Those who watch the series hoping to get inside Sarah Palin's head and find out what makes her Sarah Palin will, instead, discover that it is a travelogue. It is precisely what Sarah Palin maintained all along that it would be... Not that there aren't glimpses into the family life of the Palins. There are a number of them, all pleasing in their authenticity... Although Gov. Palin has lived in Alaska her entire life, she approached each adventure with an undimmed first-time enthusiasm that was wonderfully refreshing... This is a show that families can watch together and honestly enjoy, from the youngest children to the older adults."
Jennifer at Riehl World View:
"After I warned about the trembling from liberals before the premiere of TLC's Sarah Palin's Alaska, we finally have our first case of Palin Derangement Syndrome by a TV reviewer from the New Yorker... this person takes her critique to another level. Even using Palin's children to attack Palin."
Adrienne Ross at Motivation Truth:
"Via Facebook, Governor Palin discusses "Sarah Palin's Alaska" and her refusal to allow the critics to stop her from showing off her state with all its beauty and rich resources. Having spent some time in the Last Frontier myself, I applaud the Governor for doing this series. Those who watch and see the mountains, the waters, and the wild animals will long to visit this state that brings clear understanding of why residents call it God's Country."
Paula Street at Boston's WODS-FM:
"Forget the politics, 'Sarah Palin’s Alaska' 8-week reality show looks like a blast."
Katie Pavlich at Townhall.com:
"When we think of reality show, we think trashy housewives and serial dating, but this is not your typical reality show. Instead, 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' is a unique look into faith, family, love, strong American values and the natural beauty Alaska has to offer... Overall, this is an opportunity for viewers to see Sarah Palin for who she really is personally, as a wife, mother and career woman, without the media spin machine distorting her image or the distraction of being surrounded by political hoopla. "

Why you can't believe the left wing media

*
For over two years now, moonbat blogs and the left wing lamestream media have been repeating what Levi Johnston said in his infamous Vanity Fair interview: that Sarah Palin is not a huntress and and doesn't know one end of a gun from the other. Did even one of these intrepid reporters bother to do a little checking just in case Levi might be -- you know -- bearing false witness? Apparently not:

Oh, well, so much for that liberal lie...

Sarah Palin: Welcome GOP Members of Congress

*
Gov. Palin welcomes newly-elected Republicans in an open letter posted early this morning on Facebook:
An Open Letter to Republican Freshmen Members of Congress

Welcome to all Republican Freshmen and congratulations!

Congratulations to all of you for your contribution to this historic election, and for the contributions I am certain you will make to our country in the next two years. Your victory was hard fought, and the success belongs entirely to you and the staff and volunteers who spent countless hours working for this chance to put government back on the side of the people. Now you will come to Washington to serve your nation and leave your mark on history by reining in government spending, preserving our freedoms at home, and restoring America’s leadership abroad. Some of you have asked for my thoughts on how best to proceed in the weeks and months ahead and how best to advance an agenda that can move our country forward. I have a simple answer: stick to the principles that propelled your campaigns. When you take your oath to support and defend our Constitution and to faithfully discharge the duties of your office, remember that present and future generations of “We the People” are counting on you to stand by that oath. Never forget the people who sent you to Washington. Never forget the trust they placed in you to do the right thing.

The task before you is daunting because so much damage has been done in the last two years, but I believe you have the chance to achieve great things.

Republicans campaigned on a promise to rein in out-of-control government spending and to repeal and replace the massive, burdensome, and unwanted health care law President Obama and the Democrat Congress passed earlier this year in defiance of the will of the majority of the American people. These are promises that you must keep. Obamacare is a job-killer, a regulatory nightmare, and an enormous unfunded mandate. The American people don’t want it and we can’t afford it. We ask, with all due respect, that you remember your job will be to work to replace this legislation with real reform that relies on free market principles and patient-centered policies. The first step is, of course, to defund Obamacare.

You’ve also got to be deadly serious about cutting the deficit. Despite what some would like us to believe, tax cuts didn’t get us into the mess we’re in. Government spending did. Tough decisions need to be made about reducing government spending. The longer we put them off, the worse it will get. We need to start by cutting non-essential spending. That includes stopping earmarks (because abuse of the earmark process created the "gateway-drug" that allowed backroom deals and bloated budgets), canceling all further spending on the failed Stimulus program, and rolling back non-discretionary spending to 2008 levels. You can do more, but this would be a good start.

In order to avert a fiscal disaster, we will also need to check the growth of spending on our entitlement programs. That will be a huge challenge, but it must be confronted head on. We must do it in a humane way that honors the government’s current commitments to our fellow Americans while also keeping faith with future generations. We cannot rob from our children and grandchildren’s tomorrow to pay for our unchecked spending today. Beyond that, we need to reform the way Congress conducts business in order to make it procedurally easier to cut spending than to increase it. We need to encourage zero-based budgeting practices in D.C. like the kind fiscally conservative mayors and governors utilize to balance their budgets and reduce unnecessary spending.

There in the insulated and isolated Beltway you will be far removed from the economic pain felt by so many Americans who are out of work. Please remember that if we want real job growth, we must create a stable investment climate by ending the tidal wave of overly burdensome regulations coming out of Washington. Businesses need certainty – and freedom that incentivizes competition – to grow and expand our workforce.

The last thing our small businesses need is tax hikes. It falls to the current Democrat-controlled Congress to decide on the future of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts. If it does not permanently renew all of them, you should move quickly to do so in the new Congress. It would remove from households and businesses the threat of a possible $3.8 trillion tax hike hitting all Americans at the worst possible moment, with our economy struggling to recover from a deep recession! You must continue to remind Democrats that the people they are dismissing as “rich” are the small business owners who create up to 70% of all jobs in this country!

Another issue of vital importance is border security. Americans expect our leadership in Washington to act now to secure our borders. Don’t fall for the claims of those who suggest that we can’t secure our borders until we simultaneously deal with the illegal immigrants already here. Let’s deal with securing the border first. That alone is a huge challenge that has been ignored for far too long.

On foreign policy and national security, I urge you to stick to our principles: strong defense, free trade, nurturing allies, and steadfast opposition to America’s enemies. We are the most powerful country on earth and the world is better off because of it. Our president does not seem to understand this. If we withdraw from the world, the world will become a much more dangerous place. You must push President Obama to finish the job right in Iraq and get the job done in Afghanistan, otherwise we who are war-weary will forever question why America’s finest are sent overseas to make the ultimate sacrifice with no clear commitment to victory from those who send them. You should be prepared to stand with the President against Iran’s nuclear aspirations using whatever means necessary to ensure the mullahs in Tehran do not get their hands on nuclear weapons. And you can stand with the Iranian people who oppose the tyrannical rule of the clerics and concretely support their efforts to win their freedom – even if the President does not.

You need to say no to cutting the necessities in our defense budget when we are engaged in two wars and face so many threats – from Islamic extremists to a nuclear Iran to a rising China. As Ronald Reagan said, “We will always be prepared, so we may always be free.” You will also have the opportunity to push job-creating free trade agreements with allies like Colombia and South Korea. You can stand with allies like Israel, not criticize them. You can let the President know what you believe – Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, not a settlement. And for those of you joining the United States Senate, don’t listen to desperate politically-motivated arguments about the need for hasty consideration of the “New START” treaty. Insist on your right to patient and careful deliberation of New START to address very real concerns about verification, missile defense, and modernization of our nuclear infrastructure. No New START in the lame duck!

You can stand against misguided proposals to try dangerous, evil terrorists in the US; precipitously close the Guantanamo prison; and a return to the failed policies of the past in treating the war on terror as a law enforcement problem. Finally, you have a platform to express the support of the American people for all those around the world seeking their freedom that God has bestowed within all mankind’s being – from Burma and Egypt to Russia and Venezuela – because the spread of liberty increases our own security. You, freshmen lawmakers, can and will be powerful voices in support of foreign policies that protect our interests and promote our values! Thank you for being willing to fight for our values and our freedom!

In all this, you should extend a hand to President Obama and Democrats in Congress. After this election, they may finally be prepared to work with Republicans on some of these issues for the good of the country. And if not, we will all be looking forward to 2012.

Remember that some in the media will love you when you stray from the time-tested truths that built America into the most exceptional nation on earth. When the Left in the media pat you on the back, quickly reassess where you are and readjust, for the liberals' praise is a warning bell you must heed. Trust me on that.

I and most Americans are so excited for you. Working together, we have every right to be optimistic about our future. We can be hopeful because real hope lies in the ingenuity, generosity, and boundless courage of the everyday Americans who make our country exceptional. These are the men and women who sent you to Washington. May your work and leadership honor their faith in you.

With sincere congratulations and a big Alaskan heart,

Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin: Follow Me There!

*
Gov. Palin invites her 2,397,796 Facebook friends to tune in to "Sarah Palin's Alaska" this weekend:
Follow Me There! (To Alaska!)

“They’re going to criticize me no matter what I do, so I might as well dance.” – Bristol Palin

Race car great Mario Andretti once said, “If everything’s under control then you’re going too slow.” In Alaska, we have two speeds in the summertime: fast and faster – that’s because Alaskan summers are so short and sweet. We always try to cram it all in before the leaves change and snow flies again. Seasons change so quickly up here that we’re full-speed ahead to capture every minute under the Midnight Sun doing what we love to do in the great outdoors.

Last summer my family documented our travels through Alaska so that the rest of America could see and experience our country’s young, independent, resource-rich Last Frontier.

From sliming salmon together at our family’s commercial fishing sites on the world’s largest salmon spawning grounds in Bristol Bay, to white water rafting in the wilds, searching for gold, climbing mountains, hunting wild game near rich oil fields, and watching mama bears protecting their cubs a mere stone’s throw away from my own, Alaska will be highlighted in a spectacular way in this eight-week TLC series called “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.” We’ll show you what inspires and motivates us: the grandeur of God’s creation, the satisfaction of a good day’s hard work, the rugged pioneering spirit that carves a life out of the wilderness and makes a living on the waters, the wisdom and traditions of our Alaska Natives, and the wealth of our natural resources which allows us to support ourselves and contribute to America’s security.

So, while traveling by bush planes, dog sleds, four-wheelers, trucks, and boom boats across the vast expanses of America’s largest state, my family documented Alaska to share it with other American families.

No doubt critics who seem to live to criticize will follow suit with this project. So be it. Todd and I are showing people our home state which we love, and we wanted to create the sort of family-friendly, uplifting, educational television that we like to watch with our kids. We made something that people could watch as a family, have fun discussing the project’s content, and maybe then decide that they want to head up to the Last Frontier and see the epic 49th state for themselves.

Americans are hungry for decent entertainment that doesn’t offend our sensibilities or insult our intelligence. So many parents are upset about all of the negative things on television. We’re often told to just turn off the TV, but let’s face it: turning it off doesn’t really shut it off. You can’t block out the world. Instead of turning the TV off, families usually end up making the most of what’s on – even if the message is anything but positive. The only real solution is to offer positive alternatives. That’s what we have done here. It’s my hope that these eight episodes will be just such a positive offering, and a tribute to Alaska, and a reminder of America’s pioneering spirit.

Sure, there will be the usual critics who still won’t understand why we would document the natural resources and uniqueness of the Last Frontier, though in doing this I am keeping my promise to fellow Alaskans that I would do all I could to support and promote Alaska. My answer to those naysayers is the reminder my daughter Bristol offered when she was blessed with the opportunity to participate on “Dancing with the Stars.” I cautioned Bristol about all the criticism she’d no doubt encounter. Bristol told me, “Mom, they’re going to criticize me no matter what I do, so I might as well dance!” Yes, they’ll criticize us no matter what, so I might as well climb and fly and trek and build and hunt and fish and share with you the awe-inspiring beauty of Alaska...and because I wanted my family along for the ride, I want your family to come along, too. Follow me there!

Please tune in Sunday at 9:00 pm (8:00 pm central). The show’s opening lyrics sing the invitation: “Come on and follow me there...to my sanctuary! Follow me there!”

Sarah Palin: The Major $25 News Story

*
Posted tonight by Gov. Palin on her Facebook Notes page:
The Major $25 News Story

With all that is happening in the world I can’t believe the media is in a tizzy because SarahPAC’s last filing was off by a total of $25. Our treasurer and attorney report that our vendor who handles these calculations is re-looking at the figures to find out where the $25 glitch is in their system. Everything else in today’s very rudimentary and quite ordinary FEC inquiry letter has been answered. If anyone would care to look at other PACs, they’ll discover that they get these sorts of letter too and many of them much more frequently than SarahPAC. But, golly, sure glad the LSM (including KTUU in Anchorage) is on top of this “controversy”!

Gov. Palin to Vichy Republican Kathleen Parker: I'm still standing

*
John Ziegler was a guest on CNN's new ratings-challenged "Parker Spitzer" program Thursday, and the following exchange took place:
ZIEGLER: You took part in the targeting of Sarah Palin. You essentially took part in the assassination of Sarah Palin 1.0. That person is dead; she doesn't exist any more.

PARKER: No, no, no. Actually, I did not take part in it: I led it. Let's be clear. Let's get our facts straight.
Indeed, Parker began attacking Gov. Palin only weeks after John McCain named her as his running mate in the 2008 presidential election and hasn't relented to this very day.

The governor responded to the prideful Parker via Twitter Friday:
"Parker: appreciate your admittance. Now, I'm still standing;Standing by family, faith & flag. Who do u stand by today? http://bit.ly/d5p72x"
Oh, I think we know where the despicable Conservative Lite® Parker stands...

'Obamacrat' David Kernell sentenced to 366 days

Plus three years probation
*
A federal judge has sentenced the son of Tennessee state Rep. Mike Kernell (D-Memphis), convicted of hacking Sarah Palin's e-mail, to one year and one day in federal custody, according to a report by Knoxville television station WBIR:
David Kernell was arrested in 2008 for hacking the former Alaska governor's e-mail.

He recommended that Kernell serve his time at the Midway Rehabilitative Center on Magnolia Avenue in Knoxville, but that will be determined by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The judge also sentenced Kernell to three years probation.

Kernell will turn himself in at a later date.

Defense attorney Wade Davies had filed motions seeking probation at the sentencing, contending Kernell used publicly available information to guess his way into the e-mail in a prank. Prosecutors said the hacking was motivated by Palin's status as a governor and candidate for vice president.

Last spring, a federal jury found Kernell guilty of obstruction of justice and unauthorized access in the breach of Sarah Palin's e-mail this April. He gained access to her account in September 2008.

A former University of Tennessee student, Kernell described himself on his Facebook page as an "Obamacrat." He was a member of UT for Barack Obama.

Brett Arends: Is Sarah Palin Right About Inflation?

It's on its way
*
Brett Arends, who writes the Wall Street Journal's ROI (for Return on Investment) column, admits that when it comes to inflation, Gov. Palin may be about to look quite perceptive:
The more interesting question is about Ms. Palin's broader point: whether inflation is on its way.

If the commodity markets are right, it sure looks like it.

[...]

Wheat prices are now surging... They've risen 36% over the past 12 months.

And there are similar patterns across other agricultural and related commodities.

Coffee has risen more than 60% in the past year. Sugar's up by more than a half. Corn: 43%. Lumber's risen by a third. Cattle: 17%. Oats: 37%. Pork bellies are up by a fourth.

"Prices across the board are surging to their highest levels since the 2008 price spike," says Alex Bos, commodities analyst at Macquarie Securities. "We have an extremely bullish cotton market, and extremely bullish corn market and an increasingly bullish soybean market."

[...]

Don Carson, analyst at Susquehanna Financial, notes that the U.S. may actually be running low on wheat. Inventories, in relation to consumption, are near record lows, he says. And Alan Knuckman, market analyst at Agora Financial, says it's ominous that prices are hitting highs around harvest time, when supplies should be at their greatest. "That's very unusual," he says.

Meanwhile -- as Ms. Palin said -- the U.S. policy of debasing the dollar is driving up commodity prices in dollar terms, as it is driving up prices for other "real" assets, including precious metals.

There is a long-running debate among economists about what really causes inflation: higher costs (so-called "cost push") or just too much money. But right now you don't really have to choose: We have both.

Which is precisely the more important point the first woman to become both Alaska's governor and the Republican Party's vice presidential candidate was trying to make: the Obama Administration cannot just continue to print paper money and borrow from China to cover its backside, while driving the dollar down. The end result of such recklessness is inflation - the wrecking ball that crushes economic recovery.

NY Sun: Sarah Palin’s Seoul

*
Even the Obama-friendly left wing media was forced to admit that the president failed miserably at the G-20 summit. “Obama’s Economic View Is Rejected on the World Stage,” wrote the New York Times. “Zachary Karabell reports on Obama's mistake going into the summit,” read the subhead at the Daily Beast, which lamented the fact that the president’s letter to his foreign counterparts was doomed to “make things worse.” Obama couldn’t even manage to cut a free trade agreement with the host country of South Korea, a nation which in large measure owes its very existence to 60 years of support from the United States. Why did Obama strike out at the G-20? "It seems the skills and principles of a community organizer don’t translate well into the world of statecraft," opines today's editorial in the New York Sun:
So, just as a thought experiment here, let’s consider what might have happened had America been represented at the Group of 20 Summit not by a former community organizer but by a certain former governor of a state that, like South Korea itself, can see Russia from its door — and, in Free Korea's case, Communist China, too. The big news on the eve of the G20 was how upset our friends overseas are with the plan for a second round of money printing by the Federal Reserve. Mr. Obama took time out from his Asian travels to defend the weak-dollar policy. It turns out that the politician who challenged Mr. Bernanke most pointedly, and substantively, as the G20 was getting set for its meeting was none other than Mrs. Palin.

So one can speculate that had a President Palin been leading our delegation to Seoul, the monetary tensions would have been dissipated. The whole issue of a currency war — a competition over who can keep their currencies low and thus promote their own exports — would have been defanged. No doubt that had Mrs. Palin been leading our delegation in Seoul, her departure would have been preceded by a wave of warnings in the liberal press about our country’s trade deficit. The conceit is that we need to devalue the dollar in order to make it more attractive for foreigners to buy American products.

Mrs. Palin, however, has a plank in her political campaign that would address the trade deficit in a way that neither Mr. Obama, nor any other Democrat, has been prepared to endorse. She wants to move to domestic energy production, opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve and close-in (and safer to drill in) coastal regions for production. Mrs. Palin has a hard-earned canniness about the energy sector that can be matched by few other politicians in the country. She knows that our oil imports are a major part of our trade deficit. So while pursuing a sound-dollar policy that, at least in theory, could hurt our exports, she’d pursue a domestic oil policy that would help our trade deficit.

It’s not just idle speculation, conclude the editors, to imagine our allies among the G-20 nations reacting positively to an American president "who had a clear and savvy world view and knew where he, or she, was going."

Quote of the Day (November 11, 2010)

*
P.J. Orvetti of NBC Washington:
"During an appearance on MSNBC’s 'Andrea Mitchell Reports' Wednesday, Gov. Bob McDonnell [R-VA] said he believes Sarah Palin 'is qualified' to be president: 'I think Sarah Palin’s been a mayor, she’s been governor of a state. I happen to be partial and think governors make great chief executive officers and have the experience to be good chief executive officers of the United States.'"

More Quote of the Day Honorable Mention, Part 152

"Change the Culture" Edition
*

Peter Roff at USNews.com:
"The battle over the chairmanship of the Appropriations Committee is not the only one drawing attention from conservative leaders, Tea Party activists, and the people who want to change the culture in Washington. Another battle has broken out over who should chair the influential House Committee on Financial Services. The early assumption that Alabama Republican Spencer Bachus would take over the panel has been set aside now that California’s Ed Royce has entered the race and has won, it should be noted, the backing of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Palin’s interest may be more personal than political. After all Bachus did tell a local Alabama paper that her involvement in the recent round of primaries cost the GOP control of the Senate. It is however also true that Royce opposed the Troubled Asset Relief Program while Bachus voted for it twice, something that Royce’s backers point to as an important philosophical difference between the two men."
Mark J. Goluskin at Right View from the Left Coast:
"Spence. May I call you Spence? You are flat out wrong... Good Lord, man! You have got to get off the Karl Rove/Michael Gerson talking points."
Michelle Malkin:
"Last we heard from former Bush speechwriter-turned-Washington Post line columnist Michael Gerson, he was attacking Tea Party activists and yours truly for criticizing his old boss/mentor Karl Rove’s Christine O’Donnell-bashing... Well, Rove’s Beltway water boy took to his WaPo perch again this weekend to re-litigate the midterm election results on behalf of his boss and damn the Tea Party movement, Jim DeMint, and Sarah Palin... Rove has questioned Palin’s 'gravitas' for promoting her home state of Alaska in a multi-part TV series. Yes, God forbid Republican women look like they enjoy their lives and their families and the natural resources and gifts America has to offer outside of D.C. and away from the boardroom. How out of touch can these Beltway boys be?"
Dan Riehl at Big Journalism:
"Does Gerson now want us to believe that Palin can so alter a Senate race less than a week out from an election, especially after the establishment threw everything behind Castle for months? That’s foolishness."
The Pistolero at Live from the Alamo City:
"It could never have been the fault of the Republican establishment that got so out-of-touch that they forgot why they were sent to Washington and who sent them there, thereby starting the chain reaction that led to last Tuesday's tea party-fueled anti-incumbent blowout. Apparently it was all Sarah Palin's fault the national Republicans lost their way to the extent voters handed two branches of government to the Democrats, even though Palin hadn't even advanced to state-level politics in Alaska as the Republicans ascended in Washington. She must be really powerful to have had that effect, eh?"
William Teach at Pirate's Cove:
"Perhaps [the media] should look at their own record on treating female Republicans, such as Sarah Palin. Who, BTW, has destroyed a Wall Street Journal writer."
MK Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes:
"This is one of the special concoctions, in which Palin herself has felt inclined to revisit something, tempted by the opportunity to lay an awesome smackdown upon a smarmy WSJ Palinphobe.... So we have a situation here: If food costs have been going up, Palin is right and Reddy is wrong; if they have not been, Reddy is right and Palin is wrong. Well, not only have food prices being going up but the Wall Street Journal said so. So Reddy is not only wrong, but gloriously wrong. He’s been exposed as not even bothering to read his own paper. We just got done with that 'Party Like It’s 1773' thing where the Palin haters made absolute fools out of themselves, by flying on the seat of their pants and letting their passions take them for a ride. Next time they make the same noises, they want us to pretend it didn’t happen and we somehow accommodate them. So now we are to pretend food costs have not been going up."
Priscilla at GeeeeeZ!:
"We will be watching who in the GOP is demonizing our grassroots movement, Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint, or Michele Bachmann, for that matter. I would remind you that there is an election in two years..."
Michael Goodwin of the New York Post:
"Germany, China, Russia, Brazil and Japan and most of the world's central banks are on Palin's side. They warn of a potential global disaster of rampant inflation and protectionism. They're also calling America a hypocrite because the cash surge will cheapen the dollar, a form of currency manipulation the United States finds abhorrent when China does it. The rising chorus of criticism is a 'global backlash' against Bernanke, says The Wall Street Journal. Its editorial page concludes that Palin has effectively managed to put the case for a strong dollar 'back to the center of the American political debate,' where it belongs, and adds: 'She shows a talent for putting a technical subject in language that average Americans can understand.' True story."
Patrick J. Buchanan at the American Conservative:
"Bernanke is not just risking inflation. He is inducing inflation... Sarah Palin has nailed cold what Bernanke is about..."
Melissa Clouthier at Liberty Pundits:
"These people -- who wouldn’t dream of sullying their eyes by watching Fox News, or marring their baby ears by listening to Rush Limbaugh, or harming their little minds by entertaining an idea put forth by Sarah Palin, or hell, even Chris Christie -- seem to hate anything traditionally, unabashedly American. So closed off and insulated in their hermetically sealed bubble of superiority, shamelessly condescending to the 'unwashed masses'. They scorn God, Family, Country and Patriotism. That’s for fascists -- never mind that the fascists they’re describing are about 70% of the American public."
Liberal professor Joan C. Williams, guest blogging at the Washington Post:
"How did New Deal Democrats become Tea Party Republicans? The answer: class conflict... Sarah Palin knows how to bond with these white nonunion voters. Unless Democrats want Palin as president, they need to stop alienating those voters."
Gary P. Jackson at A Time For Choosing:
"Sarah Palin brings with her a unique set of life experiences, having grown up in the rugged last frontier, couple with the common sense that also made Reagan one of our greatest Presidents, and you have a powerful leader who can certainly make a great President in her own right. This is why the radical left, as well as elements of the Republican Party want to stop her. Sarah Palin connects with the American people because she is one of us. A local gal done good. The epitome of the great American story."
John Tantillo, "The Marketing Doctor," at FoxNews.com:
"Imagine this scenario... Hillary Clinton [vs.]... Sarah Palin... Colin Powell... as Hillary’s VP, and Marco Rubio joining forces with Palin. Wow."
John at The City Square:
"Liberals and their sexual fetishes... The latest cover for Mother Jones magazine shows how liberals in the media see Sarah Palin... Why do they do this? Does it indicate relationship issues? Support for that idea comes from a McDaniel College study which found that children of liberal parents were less able to form close positive relationships."
