Sarah Palin: ‘Independents want to know that Republicans get it’

“The problem today is Barack Obama's socialist-leaning, failed policies that will bankrupt this country.”

Now Gov. Palin seems to be saying that her decision whether to run for the White House depends on whether the title of president and a campaign could be “too shackling”:

Does Sarah Palin think she can beat President Obama in the 2012 election? Tune in at 10pm/ET to find out!
In November of 2010, ABC's Barbara Walters asked that same question of the former GOP vice presidential candidate, who answered in the affirmative. Now in September of 2012, a recent Marist poll shows her numbers to be much closer to Obama's than was the case last year.

Newt: Sarah Palin's Iowa speech was 'very, very impressive'

"I think it was maybe one of the most important speeches she's ever given."
*
In an interview with Greta Van Susteren Monday night, Former Speaker Gingrich praised Gov. Palin for her Indianola Tea Party speech:

"Governor Palin's speech in Iowa last weekend on crony capitalism and on the problems of both parties is a very, very important speech. I'm going to be tweeting a link to it. I'm also going to be doing some other things with it. I think it was maybe one of the most important speeches she's ever given, and I think it raised a series of very profound questions that all of us -- Democrat and Republican -- have to wrestle with as citizens. And she did it very well. It's a very, very impressive speech."

Rewind: Open Doors

"Throughout her whole career, she has always been underestimated."
*
The exact quote from Gov. Palin was, "And if there is an open door in '12 or four years later, and if it is something that is going to be good for my family, for my state, for my nation, an opportunity for me, then I'll plow through that door." She made the comment in an interview with Greta Van Susteren November 10, 2008.

But Scott Conroy paraphrased it well enough in this appearance he made with Shushannah Walshe on The O'Reilly Factor nearly a year later:

Sarah Palin: Cut, Cap and Balance is 'the right plan'

"It's the spending, stupid."
*

Appearing on Fox News' "On The Record" Tuesday night, Gov. Sarah Palin told host Greta Van Susteren that House Speaker John Boehner didn't have to try to "re-invent any wheel" by drafting new legislation to deal with the nation's debt ceiling because the House of Representatives had already passed the Cut, Cap and Balance Act. Though the Senate voted Friday to table the measure, and it has been pronounced dead by Majority Leader Harry Reid, Gov. Palin said Cut, Cap and Balance is "the right plan," and that Republicans "don't need to retreat now." Indeed, we agree that House Republicans acted responsibly by passing Cut, Cap and Balance, and they should put the onus on Senate Democrats to either reconsider the GOP legislation or to come up with a measure of their own. The ball should be in their court, since the leader of their side in the White House hasn't so much as proposed a budget. Speaking of the president, the first woman to be the vice presidential candidate of the Republican party criticized the president for "scaring the American people" with a mostly manufactured debt ceiling crisis which she said amounted to little more than "Obama drama." She challenged conservatives to insist that Obama submit a real plan of his own.

Gov. Palin on 2012: ‘I Do Have the fire in My Belly’

“Lay off the petty stuff”
*
Gov. Palin made an appearance on Greta Van Susteren's “On The Record” program tonight in a segment that appears to have been recorded yesterday. Although she did not say whether she was leaning toward seeking her party's presidential nomination, the governor left no doubt that she has the burning drive inside to make such a run, should she officially get into the race. She asked Greta to lead her colleagues in the media to question candidates on their records and statements, but “don't come after us for little, petty, stupid things.” The former Alaska governor was adamant that she would set the record straight whenever the media distorted her statements or made things up about her and her family.

She also had some payback for Newt Gingrich. The former Speaker of the House had said of Gov. Palin on “Good Morning America” four months ago, “I think that she has got to slow down and be more careful and think through what she’s saying and how she’s saying it.” Gingrich has been forced to backpedal for his political life after putting his foot in his mouth with remarks Sunday that Rep. Paul Ryan's budget plan is “right-wing social engineering.” The 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate made a point tonight about practicing what one preaches: “Well you know, he stumbles too. We all stumble. We all have our strengths and our weaknesses.”

Gov. Palin: 2012 election will be about the economy

"Obama has no clue how to allow the private sector to grow and thrive..."
*
Editor's Note: This is another one of our posts which was a casualty of the May 12 Google Blogger outage. We're re-posting it here and re-linking it on The Book of Sarah, our Sarah Palin web reference site. - JP

In a Wednesday night appearance on Fox News' "On The Record," Sarah Palin told guest host Martha MacCallum that the economy will be foremost in the minds of the electorate in 2012. Gov. Palin also said President Obama showed poor judgment by inviting rapper Common to the White House for poetry night. The 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate criticized the White House's timing, as it is Police Memorial Week, and Common wrote "A Song for Assata," about convicted cop-killer and former Black Panther Assata Shakur. Other Lyrics by Common called for the “burn[ing]” of then-President George W. Bush.

Gov. Palin expressed her view said that the killing of Osama bin Laden does not make the president a more formidable candidate for 2012. When asked about Newt Gingrich's entry into the 2012 presidential contest, she reiterated her opinion that the more candidates debating and contributing solutions to the nation's problems, the better. She also disagreed with some pundits who have criticized the GOP's field of candidates as weak and restated that she and some other potential candidates believe that it's too early to get into the race.
