Sarah Palin to visit south Alabama for May fundraiser

Organization benefits those with special needs
*
The Mobile Press-Register's Guy Busby reports that Gov. Palin will speak at a charitable fundraiser in May for The Exceptional Foundation in Alabama's Mobile Bay area:
The foundation is being established to help special needs children and adults in Baldwin County, Bob Callahan Sr., foundation board president, said. Palin, whose son Trig was born with Down syndrome, agreed to speak after being contacted, he said.

"This is something that is near and dear to her heart — children and adults with special needs — and that’s what brought her down here," Callahan said. "We were thrilled. This is something that is really awesome."

[...]

When efforts began to raise money for a building, staffing, activities and other needs, supporters decided to approach Palin about speaking, Craig Dahle, Callahan’s son-in-law and another of the group’s organizers, said.

"She was the logical person to kick start this with her background," Dahle, who has a 19-year-old son with Down syndrome, said.

Palin has spoken at events in Birmingham and Montgomery, but has never made a public appearance in south Alabama, Callahan said.

The event is scheduled for May 3 it the ballroom of the Marriott Grand Hotel in Point Clear. The price of the 600 tickets which should be available and other details for the fundraising dinner are yet to be announced.

On military support and honoring those who serve
*
The Sharon K Pacheco (SKP) Foundation, which supports military families and at-risk youth, has announced on its website that Gov. Palin will deliver the keynote address May 2 at the organization's annual Patriots & Warriors Gala and Fundraiser:
The event will be held at the Infinity Park Event Center, 4400 E. Kentucky Ave., Glendale, CO, starting at 6:00 PM.

The Patriots & Warriors Gala and Fundraiser is an event with a two-fold purpose - first to honor service members and those who have given of themselves in service and/or sacrifice to our country. Americans are encouraged to nominate deserving individuals for the organization's prestigious Freedom Award, which will be handed out to the honorees during this event. To nominate someone, please visit the Foundation's website at www.SKPFoundation.com by March 15, 2011.

The second purpose of the event is to serve as the major fundraiser for the SKP Foundation, directly benefiting military families and at-risk youth. "With the economic hardships our country is currently facing, the needs are becoming greater for everyone," says Foundation President, Leo Pacheco, "and many of our previous donors simply cannot afford to donate any longer."

Governor Sarah Palin will address the audience on the topic of military support and honoring those who serve.

Date set for Gov. Palin's Lubbock fundraiser

*
The Avalance-Journal has more details in its Thursday edition about Lubbock Christian School’s annual fundraiser, where Gov. Palin will be the featured speaker and appear at a reception. The date of Jan. 24 has been chosen for the event, which will be held at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center:
More than half of the approximately 1,400 tickets for the event have already been sold to corporate sponsors, said Peter Dahlstrom, Lubbock Christian School superintendent, at a Wednesday news conference.

Tickets are sold in groups of 10 on several levels, ranging from $2,000 for 10 tickets on the lowest level to $25,000 for 10 tickets at the highest level. Higher-level tickets will be closer to the stage for Palin’s speech and will include posing for a picture with Palin at the reception before the speech.

School officials don’t foresee selling individual tickets, Dahlstrom said. Ticket information can be obtained by calling the school at 796-8700 and asking for development.

[...]

Stephen Warren, development director of Lubbock Christian School... came up with the idea to invite Palin during a spring committee meeting about the fundraiser, Dahlstrom said. Responses ranged from those who thought it would be impossible to get her to those who thought Warren was joking, he said.

Brian Pitaniello, chairman of the Lubbock Christian School board of trustees, said there was a lot of discussion among board members about the proposal to bring Palin to Lubbock, but it was an easy decision to make in the end.

The board members asked themselves if it was in line with the values of the school and where they wanted the school to go, Pitaniello said, and they had confidence in the school administrators who were excited about having Palin as a speaker and were confident they could pull it off.

Few people create more buzz, good and bad, than Palin, he said. People want to hear what she has to say, and she has a lot of followers, Pitaniello said.

“She appears to carry the values she speaks of,” he said.
Dahlstrom said that the school is bringing in Gov. Palin for her energy and excitement. He added that this is the first opportunity the board has had "to bring in a person of national prominence and such current relevance." The most famous person to speak at an LCS fundraiser was former Dallas cowboys coach Tom Landry in 1985.

Sarah Palin raises record amount for Cal State Stanislaus

*
Sarah Palin hasn't even taken the stage yet for her appearance at a sold-out fund-raiser celebrating California State University, Stanislaus' 50th anniversary this evening, but she has already made the CSUS Foundation $200,000 richer. That's the after-expenses amount the Foundation will bank from ticket sales an other contributions from her appearance, and university officials said today it's the most money ever raised by the campus from a single fund-raising event:
Sixty-three percent of people attending the event are new donors.

President Hamid Shirvani and university foundation President Matt Swanson announced the figures at a press conference this afternoon just hours ahead of Palin's arrival.

In signing the former Republican vice presidential candidate, Swanson had said the foundation hoped the fund-raiser would bring in more money than any other single event on campus; today, he said he achieved that goal.

Swanson said the event raised a gross total of $450,000 in cash and in-kind gifts; $200,000 is the net amount raised.
University president Hamid Shirvani told reporters:
"This money, $200,000, will go a long way for us. One-third off the bat goes to student scholarships."
Dennis Wyatt, writing in the Manteca Bulletin back in April was right on the money with his prediction:
"When all is said and done, the university foundation will probably pocket a couple hundred thousand dollars free and clear and Palin will get publicity worth 10 times whatever her speaking fee is thanks to the controversy that her detractors have whipped up."
Meanwhile, Sacramento station KTXL-TV says it will provide live video of the governor's speech on its website here beginning at 7PM (9 PM Texas Time).

Sarah Palin event raised $100K for Illinois GOP

*
Illinois State Rep. Jim Durkin says Sarah Palin raised about $100,000 in her one-hour appearance at Wednesday's GOP fund-raiser in Rosemont, money which will be distributed to the campaigns of statewide party candidates in November:
Durkin, who campaigned in 2008 for the former Alaskan governor and Arizona Sen. John McCain in Illinois and Pennsylvania, said Illinois candidates desperately need the funds in 2010.

"For the past eight years the Republican Party has been at a severe financial disadvantage versus the Democrats," he said. "We need to do the best we can to raise money. Gov. Palin offered the party the opportunity, the party accepted the invitation, and I'm glad it went well."

Republicans paid $500 to $25,000 to attend the state party fund-raiser, which excluded some of the party faithful.
State Sen. Kirk Dillard, who didn't attend the event because he said he still has prior campaign debts to pay off before he can contribute more to the state party, nevertheless said he admired the former Governor:
"For the Republican base, Sarah Palin is an icon, and somebody that conservative Republicans admire," he said. "She has a crossover appeal to conservative Democrats, labor unions and tea party folks as well.
State Senator Dan Cronin cited the excitement and resolve Gov. Palin generated in her speech at a second Rosemont event which followed the fund-raiser as factors which will be critical in the November midterm elections. A crowd of 4,000 paid $56 apiece to attend her speech at the event sponsored by Chicago talk station WIND:
"The message she articulated last night is one we will hear much more before the November elections -- It's time for Illinois," he said. "We saw what happened in Massachusetts."

Durkin agreed the time is right for Republican gains in Washington and Springfield.

[...]

"Illinois is going to be a tier-one targeted state for the Republican National Committee," he said. "We haven't heard that in a long time. There will be resources. Illinois is going to be a battle ground like we've not seen in a few decades in a major election cycle, and we need to be ready."

Sun-Times: Sarah Palin impresses top Republicans at Illinois fundraiser

*
Chicago Sun-Times political reporter Abdon Pallash covered Sarah Palin's appearance at a state GOP fundraiser in Romemont today. Pallash reports that Gov. Palin impressed Illinois’ leading Republicans, a number of whom paid from $500 to $25,000 to schmooze with the first woman in history to be the party's vice presidential candidate:
“We talked about the situation in Illinois — the deficit, the high taxes, job creation,” said the party’s nominee for governor, State Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington. “I told her, ‘Your being here is helping rally the troops and get the message out.’”

[...]

“She came in and was gracious enough to help us raise money,” said state Sen. Jim Durkin. “It was very low-key, no speeches. She just met with people and talked with them. She said we have the chance to win many seats. People were very eager to take out their check books.”

Durkin brought a picture he took with Palin, himself and Mike Ditka at a Latrobe, Pa., rally a week before the 2008 election, which Palin signed for him.

“She said this could be a good year for Republicans,” State GOP Chairman Patrick Brady said.

“It was a moving experience,” said former GOP candidate for governor Adam Andrzejewski. “She was very personable. She was encouraging us to keep up the fight for reform in Illinois.”
Tonight at a separate event, “An Evening with Sarah Palin, ” Governor Palin spoke to a crowd of 4,000 at the Rosemont Theater. Sponsored by Chicago news-talk radio station WIND, the evening event offered much more affordable ticket prices of $56.

Dallasites hope Palin event will raise money for new Uptown Women's Center

*
As we reported March 31, Gov. Palin will be in Dallas April 30. A Fort Worth Star-Telegram story posted today provides a few more details on the private fundraiser:
"Sarah Palin is strongly for life," said Carolyn Cline, executive director of the Downtown Pregnancy Center in Dallas. "She's experienced unplanned pregnancy in her family ... and made a decision to have a child even though" tests revealed there could be problems.

"She represents a woman who is strong and chooses life."

That's why they asked the former Alaska governor to speak at the April 30 gala at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas, Cline said. Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert will welcome Palin to the event, and conservative talk show host Mike Gallagher will also attend.

Palin is expected to speak for about 45 minutes at the dinner about the anti-abortion movement and why it's important, Cline said.

The goal is to raise enough money to buy an old Dallas home that will ultimately house the Uptown Women's Center, which will be for professional and collegiate women in North Texas.

"This is our big launch," Cline said. "We hope our one and only event will raise money to establish the Uptown Women's Center."

The center, she said, will offer everything from educational opportunities about sexual health to counseling about nutrition, fitness and relationships. The Gladney Center for Adoption in Fort Worth will even have an office and representative at the new center.

"We felt Sarah Palin would be a great icon for the center," said Vicki Garza, who serves on the center's board of directors.
1,200 tickets have been made available for the gala and 68 for the VIP reception. They are priced from $1,000 for the dinner at which she will be the keynote speaker to $25,000 to admit two to both a VIP reception with the former governor and the dinner.

More ticket information is here. Send an email to info@palin4life or call 214/546-5664. More about the new Uptown Women's Center here.

It's the biggest bleeping deal in the Midwest today

*
As our esteemed vice president would say, "It's a big [bleep]ing deal." The Minnesota Republican Party has handed out all 10,000 of its tickets for today's Michele Bachmann - Sarah Palin rally that promises to rock the Minneapolis Convention Center.

The doors will open at noon, and the party gets started at 2 p.m. local time, which coincides nicely with Sean Hannity's radio program to be broadcast live from the Convention Center. Rep Bachmann will also be streaming the event live on her website here. The Congresswoman says:
"It’s an exciting time to be a conservative in this country right now, and I encourage you all to stay engaged and keep up the fight! Let’s send a message to Washington this November that Obama, Reid, and Pelosi won’t ever forget!"
Oh, yes, some guy named "Tim" will be there also:
"Pawlenty, one could say, is the odd man out here. He's not as aggressive in his conservatism as Palin or Bachmann--he's been a Sam's Club conservative, so they say, as governor--but he has presented his conservative credentials to the broader political audience, and he has looked to slash spending from Minnesota's budget, which the 2012 GOP primary electorate will like. So maybe he's the odd man out in a room with Palin and Bachmann, but not quite a sore thumb."
With Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin together on the same stage, Shannon Bell wonders:
"Is there enough duct tape in the entire state of Minnesota to keep liberal brains from simultaneously exploding?"

[...]

"Both are strong, conservative women who have turned the political world on its head in the last couple of years. Bachmann and Palin have both served as democratic lightning rods in the last several months for being outspoken advocates of conservatism and anti-big government."
At 4:30 p.m., Gov. Palin will host a fundraiser for Rep. Bachmann at the Minneapolis Hilton. Entry-level tickets for the late afternoon event went for $500, with serious donors shelling out up to $10,000 for a table for ten at an exclusive "private reception with photo opportunity."

Update: CNN may also live stream the event here (h/t: Free Republic), and the Star Tribune says it will stream it here.

Finalized: Sarah Palin's February appearance in Central Arkansas

*
Sarah Palin's appearance at a fundraiser for the Arkansas GOP, first reported by The Tolbert Report, but then described as "cancelled" in a Facebook message by Tolbert's source, appears to be going on as scheduled:
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will be the keynote speaker for a Republican Party of Arkansas event Feb. 16, state GOP leaders announced Monday.

The event, "Arkansas Welcomes Sarah Palin," will be held at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock. Details of the time of the event have not yet been finalized.

The party will sell dinner and reception tickets. Dinner tickets are $175 each, and reception tickets are $500 per person or per couple and include a photo with Palin, the state GOP said.
Credit card holders can purchase their tickers via phone with a call to the Republican Party of Arkansas at (501) 372-7301. Those who want to pay by check or cash will have to visit the Winthrop Rockefeller Republican Center at 1201 West Sixth Street in Little Rock between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays.

General admission tickets are priced at $35 and $65, and they are available through Ticketmaster beginning at 10 a.m. Friday or from the Verizon Arena box office in Little Rock from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Republican Party of Arkansas Chairman Doyle Webb told the Arkansas Democrat Gazette that Gov. Palin's appearance at in the heart of Clinton and Huckabee country will be a boon for the state GOP:
"We see it as a great fundraising and spirit-raising opportunity," he said. "We think she will motivate conservatives all over the state."

The party has already been inundated with people interested in attending, Webb said.

"Our phones have been ringing off the wall," he said.
As Jason Tolbert maintained all along, this event was never actually cancelled, as Alaska's anti-Palin hate-bloggers claimed, nor was it even postponed. An "excited insider" merely rushed to Facebook to post details of the fundraiser prior to finalization. But clutching at any straw they could find to use as an imagined sword against Sarah Palin, the blogging midnight moonbats tried to use the confusion to reinforce the "quitter" talking points they had been given by the other radical leftists who run the DNC and the White House. Once again, their hysteria betrays them as a pack of lying idiotarians.

Sarah Palin attending Minnesota fundraiser tonight

From Dennis Lien of the Twin Cities Pioneer Press:
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin apparently has agreed to attend a private fundraiser Monday for a Minnesota conservative group called the Freedom Club.

The group has sent out an invitation identifying Palin as the featured guest at the event following her noon book signing at the Mall of America. The invitation, which asks couples or individuals to contribute $5,000, will be at the Hilton Hotel in Bloomington.
Proceeds taken in by the Freedom Club will go toward electing Republicans to the Minnesota House, according to the invitations which were sent out by the group.

Star Tribune Blogger Rachel Stassen-Berger reports that Rep. Michele Bachmann will also be at the event.

Fredo, you broke my heart. You broke my heart.

From CNN's Political Ticker blog:
"Sen. John McCain is co-hosting a fundraiser for his former 2008 Republican primary rival Mitt Romney next Wednesday in Phoenix."
Those Arizonans wishing to attend the VIP reception will have to cough up $3,000 each, making the $300 per plate luncheon seem like something of a bargain in comparison. Proceeds go to Romney's Free and Strong America PAC.

The two men fought like tomcats during the 2008 GOP primary, but Politico's Ben Smith figures that this is McCain's way of thanking Mitt for being "a very good soldier" in the general election.

Allahpundit opines:
"The politic thing to do would have been to hold off on fundraisers for anyone else until he’s done one for Sarah PAC. Although that, of course, presumes that Sarah PAC wants him for a fundraiser, which it may not. Given the base’s contempt for McCain and the ‘Cuda’s emerging positioning as a libertarian populist in 2012, the Maverick brand may be something she’s trying to edge away from."
conservative brother -- who also "senses an anti-Palin motive behind it" -- wonders if McCain's support could be "the kiss of death" for Mitt politically:
"Trust me when I say this. McCain picked Sarah Palin out of necessity not out of desire. The same way half the McCain campaign camp resented Sarah, I believe John felt and still does feel the same way. If Sarah Palin does run for the Republican nomination, her biggest opponent will be Mitt Romney. If John and Mitt are indeed teaming up in a preemptive strike against a possible Palin candidacy, their strategy is going be backfire. Most of McCain's support last year came from people who supported Sarah Palin and those who didn't want to vote for Barack Obama. I talked to a lot of people last year who voted for McCain, and none of them voted for McCain, because they liked him. He was nothing more then the 'anyone but Obama' candidate."
As Allah says, the more distance Sarah Palin can put between herself and John McCain right now, the better for her future political prospects. In her Hong Kong speech, Sarah identified herself with the grassroots movement which gave rise to the town halls and tea parties, and these activists don't have much use for McCain.

Bloggers raise money for Palin defense fund

A coalition of bloggers is appealing to supporters of Gov. Sarah Palin for donations in a week-long effort to raise more than $500,000 to help her pay her legal bills.

Spearheaded by web site Conservatives4Palin, the bloggers launched their fundraising webathon Monday in a coordinated effort to help retire the Alaska governor's legal debts.

The webathon is using professional-quality videos which call the ethics complaints filed against the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate "petty politics and frivolous attacks" and a "thermometer" graphic that displays how close the bloggers are to reaching their goal.

The legal fund, called the Alaska Fund Trust was created in April to cover Governor Palin's expenses in defending herself against those allegations.

In a telephone interview with Anchorage television station KTUU Monday, Fund trustee Kristan Cole says the webathon is having an impact:
"Any time the governor is mentioned, the volume goes up tremendously and so the volume -- given this new information going out this morning, and the videos that are on the Web site -- we have seen the volume go up tremendously as we do anytime the governor is mentioned,"
According to the thermometer graphic displayed on the bloggers' websites, $54,645, or about 11 percent of their goal of $500,000, was raised on the first day.
"We are happy to help in any way that we can," Rebecca Mansour, one of the site's main contributors, said. "This is a completely grassroots effort. We are just trying to get the message out just to help them advertise."
Although Cole declined to say how much money has accumulated in the fund so far, she said the fund's first disclosure report, scheduled to be released next month, will reveal that information.

NRCC/NRSC Fundraider: Sarah Steals the Show

In the high drama which preceded last night's NRCC/NRSC fundraiser (see here and here), there were questions of whether Gov. Sarah Palin should be re-invited to attend, and if she agreed to show, whether she should be allowed to speak.

What Senators and Congressmen do best, aside from serving their own selfish interests of course, is compromise. So an agreement was worked out which would allow the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate to attend, but not speak. We expressed our opinion that Gov. Palin would be the logical choice to introduce Speaker Gingrich, but GOP Hill-types, especially those in the NRSC, are not in the habit of listening to the grassroots.

Gov. Palin had, after all, attracted a crowd of over 20,000 to an event in central New York which would normally draw a fraction of that number. In Westchester County the following day, she helped raise what is expected to total over $1.2 million after all the donations have been counted. The Alaska governor's election eve campaigning for Sen. Saxby Chambliss in Georgia significantly increased his margin of victory in a runoff election that had been predicted to be a close contest. Since the object of a fundraiser is to raise funds, a speaking role for Sarah Palin would have made sense.

But it was decided that the Palin presence at Monday night's event should be in a cameo role. Even so, some backers of other potential candidates for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination feared that simply by virtue of her mere appearance at the fundraiser, The People's Governor would steal the show. She did:
Newt Gingrich was the keynote speaker at Monday night's fundraising dinner for the Senate and House Republican campaign committees, but it was Sarah Palin who stole the show.

[...]

Palin did not speak at the event, but during a break in the program for dinner, Republicans clustered around the former vice presidential nominee's table near the front of the ballroom, eager to meet the governor and pose for pictures.

It was the only table in the vast ballroom that had a crowd gathered around it -- and despite their distance from Palin's table, multiple television cameras kept their lenses trained on the governor for much of the night.
The Republicans have a genuine rock star on their hands. Unlike the Democrats, however, they don't seem to know how to use that to their own advantage.

Gov. Palin WILL attend fundraiser tonight in DC

It appears that NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions, for one, has mended some fences, and Gov. Palin will be attending (but not addressing) the NRSC/NRCC fundraiser tonight in Washington DC.

John Cornyn, asccording to some reports had just about blown it. That would be consistent with the direction in which he's been headed ever since becomming the NRSC chairman.

Reports from WaPo blogger Chris Cillizza at The Fix and MSDNC's Nora O'Donnell.

Before these latest developments, the GOP had a big mess on its hands.

Update: According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the dinner will be carried live on C-Span3 beginning at 6:30 PM CDT

Palin has 'no intention' of challenging Murkowski

The Alaska Daily News is reporting that, according to a spokesperson for Gov. Sarah Palin:
"The governor has no intention of running for the senator's seat in 2010. She thinks the senator is doing a great job and that's why she's looking forward to hosting a fundraiser for her."
Meg Stapleton also told ADN yesterday speculation that Gov, Palin might challenge Sen. Murkowski in the 2010 GOP primary is "just something that's been drummed up by the media."

The Alaska Dispatch had called this correctly April 1, saying that word on the street was that Gov. Sarah Palin was planning to help Sen. Murkowski with a fundraiser.

Ivan Moore, an Anchorage-based pollster and political consultant, said this should bring and end to media speculation of a contest between Murkowski and Palin:
If Palin is interested in the U.S. Senate, Moore said, a more plausible scenario would be her running for governor in 2010, serving a second term, and then challenging Alaska Democratic Sen. Mark Begich when his term is up in 2014.
That is also what I said in early December.

Politico referenced the ADN story in a short piece today. Interestingly, Stapleton's charge that the media has tried to stir up a mud wrestling match between Palin and Murkowski doesn't seem that far-fetched. Politico appears to be one of the usual suspects, with several items like this one. Barely two weeks after the Politico item was published, the nutroots got into the act, with Daily Kos commissioning a Research 2000 poll showing that in a hypothetical matchup between the two women for Murkowski's job, Palin would win by 55 to 31. That was followed a scant two weeks later by another survey, the latter one paid for by Palin nemesis Dan Fagan, with almost the opposite result - Murkowski retaining her seat by 58 to 31. What is wrong with these two pictures?

If Moore is right, the children will give up this nonsense. But those who want to make mischief for Sarah Palin are a determined bunch. Why let facts get in the way when you're trying to sow the seeds of conflict?
