The light of the left, having been starved for the fuel of any new ideas for more than sixty years, has burned itself out to the point where all that remains is a dying ember. The reaction of "progressives" at the loss of illumination is often expressed in a dark rage, as Clarice Feldman illustrates:

Twice in recent years pleasant social events have been shattered by rage-filled outbursts when liberal men of a certain age learned that I disagreed with their views. In each case the rage with which perfectly polite disagreement was expressed suggested to me that more than political differences were involved. As time has passed, I have come to believe that the reactions I received represented a rage at the dying of all that which these men had embraced in the absolute certainty of the righteousness and soundness of their views, and their right to have them automatically accepted as the approved model for all right thinking people.

In the first instance, some years ago, I was a guest at the lovely Maine lakeside lodge of a relative of a college roommate. At the conclusion of a perfectly pleasant dinner in which the conversation was not at all political, my host asked quite unexpectedly what I thought of (then) president George W. Bush. I said I loved him. (And I do. I think that he is a decent gentlemen who tried in every way to perform his responsibilities honestly, no small matter in such a thoroughly base age in which he was unremittingly slanderously vilified.)

My host rose red-faced from his seat, and smashed his fist on the table, shouting, "How could you be so close minded?" As I recall, I could only laugh at the absurdity of his response. His wife , a proper hostess, tried to smooth it over, but I had seen first hand the tyrannical face behind the mask of a liberal urbanite. I had not raised the matter. I had merely answered honestly and succinctly his question in a way he found intolerable simply because my short reply so challenged his own views that all decent, educated people shared his opinion. Hold a different opinion and you are by definition "close minded."

This scenario with slight differences, occurred more recently this year, when a fellow dinner guest, a professor of public policy at a major university who had just completed a federal appointment by Obama, asked me what I thought of Sarah Palin ( whom I said I liked) and anthropogenic global warming (about which I indicated extreme skepticism), he, like my Maine host, exploded in a fury. " I can't believe a nice, educated Jewish woman like you would hold such views," he said. "I suppose you don't believe in natural selection either," he sneered.

In fact, the tea party, Sarah Palin, and all of us who eschew bigger government and demand accountability and self-determination are beginning to expand our reach. We are, as reporters in England and Australia note with regard to the debt limit negotiations, showing up worldwide socialism as a foolish and bankrupt notion.

As Europeans begin to pick up the pieces of a society shattered by socialism, many are finding inspiration and light in the grassfire that is the American TEA Party movement. The political left, which long ago declared all-out war on the TEA Party movement, has always had the enthusiastic assistance of a corrupt and compliant media to help it smear the ordinary Americans who have turned activist to try to restore some degree of fiscal sanity to the nation's runaway government. Now the hard left and their media left attack dogs have a third partner in their Axis of Acrimony - the RINOs.

Not that the Vichy Republicans haven't always hated the Tea Parties as much as the other two members of their unholy triumvirate. They just haven't been as vocal about it as they've been recently. Leftist TEA Party haters such as Margaret Carlson (via Bloomberg) and William Yeomans (via Politico and RealClearPolitics) have seized on a old meme which had its genesis two years ago in an Obama Administration Department of Homeland Security report characterizing the grandmothers and proud American military veterans of the TEA parties as "right wing extremists." Thanks to the rabid rhetoric of the in-the-hip-pocket-of-the-DNC media mobsters, the threat those mere "extremists" pose to the Beltway Establishment's spending addiction has been elevated to that of "hostage takers" and now "terrorists."

Though the anti-TEA Party rhetoric of the RINOs hasn't been as hysterical as that of their hard left comrades, it is no less acrimonious. It has taken the recent debt ceiling battle for the RINO element of the Axis to fully blow their cover. Thursday, Sen. Lisa Murkowski put the blame for the current debt "crisis" on the House TEA party Caucus. A Wednesday Wall Street Journal editorial mocked TEA Partiers as "Hobbits." And Washington Post House RINO
Jennifer Rubin late last night smeared not just the TEA Party but all fiscal conservatives who believe the county needs a balanced budget amendment as "extremists." So they've come full circle back to that 2009 Obama Administration rhetoric.

So other than their disdain for the TEA Parties and the concept of fiscal responsibility, what else do Jennifer Rubin, Lisa Murkowski and the editors of the Wall Street Journal share in common? They are Palinophobes, one and all. Though Murkowski's hatred of Sarah Palin is deeply personal, the animosity of Rubin and the WSJ editors toward the GOP's first female vice presidential candidate is more that of the garden variety talking points regurgitator. But it is still Palin hatred, a fully grown poisonous plant nurtured by Republicans In Name Only from the gift of a seedling by their leftist crime partners in the Axis of Acrimony.

Update: Kathleen Parker, another Palin hater, drops her own load of RINO manure on the TEA Party and Gov. Palin, as Dan Riehl observes. Appears that all the usual suspects are crawling out from under their rocks to cast stones, being -- in their own minds, at least -- completely without sin.

There they go again. The lamestream media is making things up by falsely attributing quotes she never uttered to Gov. Palin:

In an article published Tuesday entitled “Casey Anthony: The Candidates Respond,” Salon Magazine smeared Sarah Palin and several Republican presidential candidates with faked quotes reacting to the verdict in the Casey Anthony trial. The faked quotes, especially those falsely attributed to Michele Bachmann and Palin, made their way around the Internet this week, adding to the media-driven campaign of hatred against leading Republican women.

Palin was smeared as a separation-of-powers ditz, accusing President Barack Obama of not getting involved in the Anthony case:

“Once again we see, with our nation in crisis, President Obama stands by and does idly nothing while an injustice is committed here in this glorious nation of ours … Why the strange silence, Mr. President?”

Alex Pareene, who is described at the end of the article as “Alex Pareene writes about politics for Salon,” made up the quotes in apparent frustration that Republican candidates had not waded into the Anthony murder trial controversy. The new media standard now seems to be if a Republican won’t say something outrageously foolish, the media will make up the quotes they want and destroy the candidate anyway.

The article is so poorly-written (and without further clarification) that the author’s attempt at satire is lost upon the reader. The quotes are presented as sourced quotes and transcripts.

Come to think of it, this sounds oddly familiar. Oh yes, it was just one month ago when Politico got caught red handed, so to speak, doing pretty much the same dishonorable thing. In Politico's case, the authors blamed some anonymous editor for their journalistic crime. In Salon's case, the author, though he presented the quotes as real, now claims his piece was "satire." The left wing media always has some lame excuse for their smear jobs against Sarah Palin, don't they?

Obviously we’ve seen our share of media lies, but the latest fabrications circulated take a big slice of the cake. The UK Daily Mail reports that I was “in tears” as Todd “rages over Hollywood stars ripping” me in the new film “The Undefeated.” Huh? Really? The beautiful town of Pella, Iowa, was flooded with an army of media covering the premiere of this film. You’d think someone would have caught those tears and rages on tape, right? Well, here’s a video of the remarks I made at the Pella Opera House right after viewing the film. The emotion clearly displayed was gratitude to the filmmakers who invested their own time and money into highlighting my team’s record in Alaska. Todd and I were overwhelmed with gratitude, and we hope everyone sees this film.

MSM, you should check it out too. Liberal Houston & Dallas 'alternative' blogs review 'The Undefeated'

A review of "The Undefeated" appears in the Unfair Park blog of the Dallas Observer, an "alternative" weekly owned by Village Voice Media. Think of the Dallas Observer as a Metroplexed Village Voice, and you've got it pegged. Still, reviewer Anna Merlan gives the film a fairer shake than does the Houston Press, the left-wing "alternative" rag in the Bayou City, which used the opportunity to slam-pan Stephen Brannon's documentary.

Instead of being angrily outraged, as was the lefty who wrote the Press' review, Ms. Merlan seems to find the grassroots conservatives who were with her at the screening to be the sort of curiosities rarely encountered in her normal circles. Some excerpts:

After the film, the woman sitting next to me -- who turned out to be Lorie Medina, the head of the Dallas Tea Party -- talked a bit about about Sarah Palin haters. Many of them, she thinks, are motivated by bitterness.

"She's what the feminists have told us to be shooting for," she said. "She has a great marriage, a huge family and an incredible career."

Does Medina think Palin would run for president?

"Well, that's the $64,000 question," she said. "Some days I wake up and I think she will, some days I think she won't." I asked if Palin would be her first choice for president. "Of course," she said, looking faintly shocked.

"There's nothing wrong in America a good ol' fashioned election can't fix!" Palin exclaims brightly near the end of the film. The audience in Grapevine clapped, cheered and whistled at that. As the movie faded to black, the clapping was replaced with earnest chants of "Run, Sarah, run!"

To her credit, Ms. Merlan eschews the usual liberal snark lathered into the Houston Press review. Still, she missed the point:

The purpose of the film, basically, is for people who currently work for her -- or have in the past, including her attorney, who looks a little depressed, and numerous people who were part of her mayoral and gubernatorial campaigns -- to talk about her achievements and bash her foes, who are part of what one talking head calls "an uprising of hatred" against Palin.

No, the purpose of the film is to tell the true story that the major media ignored, so busy was it bashing Palin and praising Obama during the campaign of 2008. It's the same story told by the tens of thousands of Gov. Palin's emails that same corrupt media couldn't wait to get its hands on, so sure it was that there was dirt to be mined there. But all the media found in the massive email release was the story of an honest and capable administrator who left office with a number of significant accomplishments on her watch. And that's also the point of "The Undefeated." Too bad the Dallas Observer failed to observe the obvious.

The hard left will never give Sarah Palin the credit she's due. That's all right; we don't expect them to. If we can get them to see "The Undefeated," and they come away from the film no longer dehumanizing her as a monster or something, that will be progress. Which would make them live up to their self-characterization as "progressives" for a change.

The political left cannot handle the truth about Sarah Palin so they consistently bear false witness against the first woman to be both governor of Alaska and the vice presidential nominee of the Republican Party.

For example, the leftist blogs are regurgitating a bogus Democrat talking point that the book signing at Minnesota's Mall of America was poorly attended. Sewer blog Wonkette and its fellow travelers in the leftosphere are prevaricating, as they are inclined to do every time they put up a post about Gov. Palin and her family, when they claim that "only 300 people showed up to attend the Sarah and Bristol Palin book signing of Bristol’s new memoir... The family abandoned the stage half an hour before the end of the time slot because there was nobody left."

That's the lie. However, the Associated Press, a media institution which has not exactly been friendly to Gov. Palin, reported:

"The mall estimates about 1,500 people turned out..."

1500 people showed up for the signing? But, but, but... that would mean that leftists are lying when they insist that only 300 turned out.

Let's check another source. According to local television station KSTP-TV:

"A crowd at Mall of America waited hours to see ex-Alaska governor Sarah Palin, her husband Todd, their daughter Bristol and her son Tripp."

The crowd "waited hours" to see Gov. Palin and her family? How can that be, when the "progressive" prevaricators claim that few showed up and nobody stayed? Who are you going to believe, liberals or your lying eyes and ears?

Here's a third source. From the account by local CBS affiliate WCCO-TV:

"People lined up throughout the day at the Mall of America in Bloomington as Bristol Palin made an appearance for her new memoir..."

Throughout the day? My, my. There you have no less than three independent sources that expose the liberal lie for what it is.

The source for the bottom-feeding bloggers' bullsh*t offensive seems to be a disingenuous account posted by Jessica Lussenhop at the untrustworthy site City Pages. According to her Linked In profile, Lussenhop attended the "Academy for Alternative Journalism" and the leftist Journolister factory otherwise know as the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Oh, and she also did some time at Ms. Magazine. No agenda-driven distortion by Ms. Lussenhop, no ma'am.

So why the lie? Even if a lefty journo hates Sarah Palin with a purple passion, why intentionally write a dishonest account of something as relatively pedestrian as a book signing and then put your name behind it? There's just one logical conclusion. It's not just hate at work here, but fear as well. The left is so afraid of Sarah Palin as a potential threat to the faux socialist utopia they are clumsily constructing that they will do literally anything, even lie their sorry butts off, to maintain the narrative that she does not enjoy the popular support that we see displayed for her everywhere she goes.

It's not that the left cannot recognize the truth about Sarah Palin. They just can't handle it. So they tell lies about her. If they weren't so evil they'd be pathetic.

'The Undefeated' has the left reeling

Stephen Bannon's "The Undefeated" hasn't even had it's world premiere yet (that comes Tuesday in Pella, Iowa with Todd and Sarah Palin attending), but already it has the anti-Palin left in a mad scramble to try to counter it. The left is so fearful that the truth about Gov. Palin's good governorship of Alaska, as revealed in the reels of "The Undefeated, will beat down three years of media lies about her that leftist filmmaker Nick Broomfield is rushing to complete an anti-Palin counterpart to Bannon's film.

Broomfield's hit flick will include clips of such notorious anti-Palinites as the governor's former legislative director John Bitney, whom she fired for betraying her trust, and former Alaska Senate president Lyda Green, a longtime Palin political enemy. A previous Broomfield film, "Battle for Haditha," leaves little doubt of the political perspective from which he's mounting his cinematic assault on Sarah Palin. Author Robin Mullins Boyd debunked some of the many lies told in Broomfield's "Hadditha" in a 2007 blog post:

One of the favs at the Toronto Film Festival is the disgusting movie, Battle for Haditha, by Nick Broomfield. Reviewers are marveling at the "dramatization" and lauding the performances. BUT NOT ONE has questioned the events as depicted in this tripe of a movie. To rub salt in the backstabbing wounds, former Marines portray the real Haditha Marines to add realism to this piece of fiction.

You know you're a hit with the anti-war, anti-American, anti-military crowd when you get a review on the World Socialist website.

Getting rave reviews from fellow leftists doesn't necessarily put people in the theater seats, and that is ultimately the measure by which the hit flick currently being shopped by Broomfield in Los Angeles will have to compete against "The Undefeated," which has a big head start, thanks to distribution deals with Cinedigm Entertainment Group and AMC Theaters.

Broomfield's panicky response to Bannon's film was as predictable as night following day. Whenever the rare news article which treats Gov. Palin fairly pops up, the media left counters with ten Palin hit pieces. For every blog post which shows her in a positive light, the leftist blogs respond with a hundred dark attacks on her and her family. For every book which is favorable to the former GOP vice presidential candidate, the left cranks out an anti-Palin volume. If the anemic sales performance of the books which attack the governor are any predictor, Broomfield's film will be a colossal flop and another EPIC FAIL of the anti-Palin left.

Following claims by the UK's very left wing paper, The Guardian, that Marget Thatcher had "snubbed" Sarah Palin, Nile Gardiner decided to investigate the matter personally. Few are better qualified for such an inquiry, because Gardiner served the former British Prime Minister as a foreign policy researcher and advisor. He assisted her as she wrote Statecraft: Strategies for a Changing World, and in 2006, Gardiner was appointed director of the Heritage Foundation's Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom, a position he still holds:

It all began with a blog post in The Guardian claiming the former prime minister had refused to meet with Mrs. Palin on her upcoming visit to London, on the grounds that she was “unworthy of an audience”, and quoting an anonymous “ally” of Lady Thatcher.

I have spoken to Lady Thatcher’s Private Office regarding the story, and they confirm that the attack on Sarah Palin definitely did not come from her office, and in no way reflects her views. As a former aide to Margaret Thatcher myself, I can attest that this kind of thinking is entirely alien to her, and that such remarks would never be made by her office. She has always warmly welcomed like-minded figures in the United States, and has in the past met with numerous US presidential candidates and political dignitaries when they have visited London. But at the age of 85 she is now able to receive very few visitors at all.

As we reported here Saturday, Christopher Collins of the The Thatcher Foundation has also debunked the Guardian's lies. There was never any snub of Sarah Palin by Lady Thatcher’s office, as Nile Gardiner confirms. But there was a vile and vain smear attempt made on Sarah Palin by the British left, who have proven that they are at least as nasty and mendacious as their American comrades.

Boston Herald: Old North Church vicar defends Palin on Revere

Rev. Stephen T. Ayres, vicar of Old North Church, told the Boston Herald this weekend he blames the “gotcha”-seeking media for misrepresenting Sarah Palin’s comments made when she stopped at the historic landmark earlier this month:

“I am amazed that this silly story refuses to die,” he said. “I lament what’s happening to our culture. Everything is reduced to one-upmanship or gotcha.”

Ayres said he feels somewhat responsible because he tutored Palin on the particulars of Revere’s 1775 ride and teen exploits as a bell-ringer at the fabled church. So he has fired back at left-leaning bloggers by penning a post of his own on the church Web site.

Ayres said he welcomed Palin, her parents, and her daughter Piper to the church on the morning of June 2, as she traveled the East Coast on her “One Nation” tour. He gave them the usual “one if by land, two if by sea” lesson, but added in how Revere founded the church’s bell-ringing guild in 1750 as a teen and how he warned the British after being arrested on the night of his famous ride that the minutemen had been alerted.

Hence Palin’s quote to the press that Revere “warned the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free.”

So much for the 'shoots wolves from helicopters' myth

Some left wing bloggers may be starting to realize that the Palin emails they fought relentlessly to have released are not the silver bullets they had hoped for to use to destroy the object of their hatred. Information contained in the documents, in fact, provides contradictory evidence to one of the many myths they have perpetuated about Sarah Palin.

The emails shatter the mythological image of a bloodthirsty Sarah Palin, assault rifle in hand, maniacally pursing Alaskan wolves from the skid of a black helicopter, fiendishly laughing as she slaughters the poor creatures. Lefty bloggers have been pushing that one for years. But, according to the liberal Washington Post, the emails prove otherwise:

The governor told her fish and game commissioner in blunt terms that she opposed using state helicopters to hunt wolves and preferred paying private hunters.

“We have to act quickly on this as predators are acting quickly and rural families face ridiculous situation of being forced to import more beef instead of feeding their families our healthy staple of alaskan game. Nonsense. Unacceptable - and not on my watch,” she said.

Her source of information? “Todd interviewed buddies who live out there... Some confirmation that state intervention isn’t first choice w/the locals,” Palin said.”We need to incentivize here,” including providing money for trappers.

Governor Palin did indeed strongly support predator control, and she clearly favored paying hunters a bounty to keep the wolf population in check, but the image of her personally shooting the predators from aircraft has finally been shot down. The emails also show that her motivation for keeping the wolf population at manageable levels was her concern for the welfare of Alaska's rural families who depend so heavily on caribou and moose, the wolves' prey, for food and warm clothing.

Another email demonstrates Gov. Palin's opposition to hunting bears in the McNeil River Bear Sanctuary:

"I am a hunter. I grew up hunting - some of my best memories growing up are of hunting with my dad to help feel (sic) our freezer. I want Alaskans to have access to wildlife...BUT - he's asking if I support hunting the bears in the sanctuary? No, I don't... I don't know any Alaskans who do support hunting the McNeil bears that frequent the viewing area. Many Alaskan and Outside visitors view these animals on the McNeil river, within the sanctuary, and, as my parents have reported back after their viewing trip, it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience to see such beauty on that river."

America is broke, thanks to the likes of Blumenauer and other Democrats who have spent other people's money like drunken... well, Democrats; beltway statists have skyrocketed the national debt up to incomprehensible heights; unemployment under Obama is double what it was when Dems blamed Bush in 2005 for it being 4.5 percent; Obama is borrowing money from China to give to Greece; he loaned more Chinese money to Brazil to drill for oil that he's promised to buy from them, after shutting down domestic production in the Gulf of Mexico. With all that and much worse going on, Blumenauer and O'Donnell are obsessed with whether the National Park Service gave 15 minutes of its time to talk to Sarah Palin exclusively at a stop on her bus tour?

We always knew "progressives" had their priorities all out of whack, but the left's obsession with making war on Sarah Palin and her family is nothing less than pathological. That Blumenauer and his useful idiot O'Donnell would use MSPDS to grandstand about it while attacking little Piper Palin to sling a little mud at her mother clearly demonstrates that the left no longer cares how low it sinks below the level of the rest of humanity.

The Times' editors defend not only Gov. Palin, but also America's "great national narrative":

Revere warned the British? The tut-tutting was immediate. Reporters and commentators, having griped for days about being given insufficient courtesies on Mrs. Palin’s East Coast bus tour, had a field day. One if by land, two thousand by tweet.

It soon turned out, however, that Mrs. Palin’s version of history was correct. While Revere warned the Americans that the British were coming, he also warned the British - not for their benefit - that the Americans were coming.

Mrs. Palin is in good company. Ronald Reagan faced the same sniggering comments whenever he invoked inspirational examples from history. Of course, what the left is really snarking at is the notion that history even matters. Starting in the 1960s, the New Left movement rejected the past as having any relevance to the revolution they wanted to bring to this country. In their view, American history was simply a compendium of crimes committed by dead white males. When then-candidate Barack Obama promised to “fundamentally transform America,” he meant that to be taken literally. When Michelle Obama said in February 2008 that “for the first time in my adult lifetime I’m really proud of my country,” it was a genuine expression of the basic liberal attitude toward America and its history.

Tea Partyers and others who look to America’s past for inspiration are appealing to the great national narrative that the left has rejected. In essence, we have become two peoples: one with a vision of America as an exceptional country with a heroic history, and another believing the country and its people are burdened by a multitude of original sins and populated by groups who are owed continuing and endless debts because of that corrupt past.

If a nation doesn’t revere its history, doesn’t exalt its national story, doesn’t look with pride on its accomplishments and honor its heroes, it will not long survive. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s famous 1861 poem about Paul Revere sought to inculcate belief in America’s destiny. It closes with the lines, “In the hour of darkness and peril and need, The people will waken and listen to hear, The hurrying hoof-beats of that steed, And the midnight message of Paul Revere.” Longfellow got several facts wrong in his epic poem, but like Mrs. Palin, he got the message right.
