Quote of the Day (February 7, 2011)

Like the media, leftist Davis just makes things up
*
Calvin Freiburger at NewsReal Blog:
“Wait a minute—Reagan was against hunting? If that sounds surprising, that’s because Davis simply made it up. In a May 1983 speech before the National Rifle Association, the president called 'America’s sportsmen, hunters, and fishermen' the nation’s 'foremost conservationists of our national resources,' and said he 'deeply appreciate[d]' the NRA’s efforts to teach children 'marksmanship, firearms safety, and some of the values and ethics of hunting and the outdoors.' In the same speech, Reagan also laments 'a kind of elitist attitude in Washington that vast natural resources must be locked up to save the planet from mankind.' Reagan would most likely say that, by hunting, Palin was participating in a proud, valuable American tradition; if he would find anything 'baffling,' it would more likely be how little his own daughter understands his views.”

Frum throws Knepper under the bus

*
Alex Knepper is the troubled young writer who has been responsible for many vicious anti-Palin rantings at the website Race 4 2012 (formerly known as Race 4 2008), then at NewsReal Blog, and more recently at the Conservative Lite site Frum Forum. But no longer. Frum has finally thrown Knepper under the bus, but like the Vichy Republican he is, Frum is playing the blame game.

Calvin Freiburger does a nice job of exposing Frum's hypocrisy here.

Calvin Freiburger: PDS at the Daily Beast

*
Freiburger calls out Beast editor Tina Brown for authoring an anti-Sarah Palin screed so vitriolic, he could have sworn that it was written by hatemeister Andrew Sullivan:
For many of Palin’s critics, at the heart of the “Palin as celebrity” meme is the Left’s doctrinaire belief in profit as something low and degraded, something to be distributed by government rather than earned through free competition.

[...]

Of course, in Brown’s case it might simply be good old-fashioned Palin Derangement Syndrome.

[...]

Indeed, her rhetoric about “dominatrix jackets” and “violent populism” is so angry and divorced from reality as to leave little doubt as to the real motivation: Sarah Palin’s feisty conservatism is simply not supposed to resonate with the American people, and it’s certainly not supposed to come from women who manage to balance career and family. That potent combination is guaranteed to bring out the worst in the Left every single time.

Calvin Freiburger: The Ever-Expanding Scope of PDS

*
Posting on David Horowitz's NewsReal blog, Calvin Freiburger notes the Left's hysteria over Sarah Palin aide Meghan Stapleton's resignation this week. Freiburger makes the observation that the hysteria is on full display over everything Gov. Palin says and does, from the newsworthy to the more mundane:
"Meghan Stapleton, advisor and spokeswoman to Governor Sarah Palin, resigned yesterday to spend more time with her family, and we all know what that means: another media feeding frenzy. A recent Daily Beast interview with Stapleton suggests her departure is an essentially unremarkable development over the normal course of a political career, but that won’t stop the buzzards of the Left from swooping in for the kill."

[...]

"There’s something unseemly about the obsession to either gleefully mock or infer sinister undertones to every mundane event related to Sarah Palin, and it’s indicative of the Left’s pettiness and utter lack of restraint in the face of opposition. While we here at NewsReal may have been critical of the governor lately, there’s no doubt that the Left still fears her—and not entirely without cause."
