SarahPAC Video: 'Mama Grizzlies' (Updated)

*

Thursday on Sarah Palin's Facebook page, the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate's political action committed posted a video which, according to some media write-ups, "smacks of a very early presidential campaign ad." In the video, Gov. Palin warns the beltway establishment to watch out for "mama grizzlies" who are fed up with business as usual in Washington, D.C. and are ready to "get our country back on the right track":
Set against a background of inspirational music and over pictures of Palin working crowds at rallies, the message of the ad, called "Mama Grizzlies," is geared toward women who are unhappy with the current Democratic administration.

"It seems like it's kind of a mom awakening in the last year and a half where women are rising up saying, 'No, we've had enough already,' because moms kinda just know when something is wrong," Palin's voice booms as the image of a middle-aged woman holding a sign that reads, "I'm not the 'Angry Mob' I'm an angry, tax-bled hockey mom" flashes by.

[...]

The ad, which demands "common sense solutions," was paid for by Palin's political action committee and does not mince words when declaring war on the current political situation.

“Look out Washington, cause there’s a whole stampede of pink elephants crossing the line and the E.T.A. for them stampeding through is November 2, 2010," Palin says.
Shock: Philip Rucker reports on the video without a trace of the usual Washington Post anti-Palin snark and spin:
Sarah Palin issued a direct appeal to female independent voters Thursday, releasing a video montage about the conservative women she calls "Mama Grizzlies."

Republican strategists are already praising the video. For a political figure used to an off-the-cuff style, Palin's video has a professional and polished feel that could strengthen and broaden her emotional appeal among female voters. One prominent GOP media consultant described the video as "brilliant," adding: "I wish I'd done it."
Update: The Tennessean's Chas Sisk observes that in the first nine very early-morning hours after it was posted, the Facebook item was "liked" by more than 4,100 and spawned over 400 comments.

DSCC Anti-Palin Attack Ad FAIL

What were they thinking? Some genius at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) cooked up a plan to link Gov. Sarah Palin, by virtue of her announced intention to resign, to New Hampshire attorney general Kelly Ayotte and Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. Ayotte is resigning to explore a run for the Senate, and Crist has already announced that he's running for a Senate seat.

How does this tactic FAIL? Let us count the ways...

1. NBC's Mark Murray points out:
"Ayotte and Crist are officially (or close to it) running for a different office. We don't know yet if Palin will run for president."
2. The Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee (RSCC) did a little googling and found that Barack Obama once pledged to serve his full six-year term in the Senate. The Chicago Sun-Times, edition of November 4, 2004:
"I was elected yesterday," Obama said. "I have never set foot in the U.S. Senate. I've never worked in Washington. And the notion that somehow I'm immediately going to start running for higher office just doesn't make sense. So look, I can unequivocally say I will not be running for national office in four years, and my entire focus is making sure that I'm the best possible senator on behalf of the people of Illinois."
3. Kyle Munzenrieder of the Miami New Times has a good question for the DSCC:
"What about all those Democratic governors who so eagerly resigned to take positions in the Obama administration? Not to mention the dozens of Democratic candidates who are attempting to ditch one elected office for a better one."
4. Munzenrieder also notices a less salient, but nonetheless humorous detail about the ad:
"The voices are a major fail. There are so many decent Sarah Palin impersonators out there, and this is what you got? Was this lady not available? And since when does Charlie Crist sound like a voice over artist from a PBS Civil War documentary?"
Perhaps the DSCC thought no one would notice any of the above discrepancies.

FAIL
