Organizers are planning for a turnout numbering in the thousands for the July 26 Alaska governor's annual picnic in Fairbanks, where Gov. Palin will officially resign her office and hand over their reigns of power to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell.
According to the Associated Press, about 5,000 picnickers and a large press contingent are expected to attend the event, where "security will be tighter than usual" and media credentials will be checked."
As of July 12, says Gov. Palin communications director David Murrow, C-SPAN was the only media organization that had inquired of the governor's office about the event, but more news outlets are expected to contact him as the date approaches.
