Sarah's Story

As posted at SarahPAC:
*
Sarah Heath Palin

Sarah Palin first made history on December 4, 2006 when she was sworn in as the first female governor of Alaska. In August 2008, Senator John McCain tapped Palin to serve as his vice-presidential running mate in his presidential campaign, making her the first woman to run on the Republican Party's presidential ticket.

In Alaska, her top priorities included fiscal restraint, limiting the size of government, resource development, education, equitable oil valuation as well as transportation and infrastructure development. Palin fought for ethics reform and transparency in government.

Palin has a long record of achievement and experience in public office. Prior to her election as Governor, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council and two terms as the mayor of Wasilla. During her tenure, she reduced property tax levels while increasing services and made Wasilla a business-friendly environment, drawing in new industry.

Under her leadership as Governor, Alaska invested $5 billion in state savings, overhauled education funding and protected Alaska's natural resources. She created Alaska's Petroleum Systems Integrity Office to provide oversight and maintenance of oil and gas equipment, facilities and infrastructure and the Climate Change Subcabinet to prepare a climate change strategy for Alaska.

During Governor Palin's first year in office, three of her administration's major proposed pieces of legislation passed—an overhaul of the state's ethics laws, a competitive process to construct a natural gas pipeline and a restructuring of Alaska's oil valuation formula.

Palin is past chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, a multistate government agency that promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment. She also served as chair of the National Governors Association (NGA) Natural Resources Committee, which was charged with pursuing legislation to ensure state needs are considered as federal policy is formulated in the areas of agriculture, energy, environmental protection and natural resource management.

Sarah Heath Palin arrived in Alaska with her family in 1964, when her parents came to teach school in Skagway. She is married to Todd Palin, who is a lifelong Alaskan, worked as a production operator on the North Slope and is a four-time champion of the Iron Dog, the world's longest snowmachine race. They have five children.

Born on February 11, 1964, in Sandpoint, Idaho, Governor Palin moved to Alaska with her family at the age of three months, when her father took a teaching position in Skagway, Alaska, before eventually settling in Wasilla. A graduate of Wasilla High School, Governor Palin was the co-captain and point guard of Wasilla’s 1982 state championship women’s basketball team. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism from the University of Idaho in 1987.

Palin is a contributor for FOX News where she offers her political commentary and analysis across all FOX News platforms, including FOX Business Channel, FOXNews.com and FOX News Radio. She also participates in special event political programming for FOX Broadcasting.

She is the author of The New York Times best-selling books, Going Rogue: An American Life (November 2009) and America by Heart (November 2010) and was named to TIME magazine’s 2010 "100 Most Influential People" list. She was also the host of the 8-week documentary series Sarah Palin’s Alaska on TLC.

SarahPAC email mentions presidential election & Gov. Palin's decision

"Governor Palin has to make the important decision of whether or not to run for office."
*

Dear SarahPAC Supporter,

During these tough economic times, struggling families and individuals across America need leadership and solutions. In his address to Congress last week, our President offered only recycled proposals that have been proven to fail.

Increasing spending and expanding government control over the lives of hardworking Americans is not the solution to our broken economy. Mortgaging the future of our children and grandchildren will not ensure a better situation today, but it will ensure greater burdens in the future.

With the Presidential election right around the corner, Governor Palin has to make the important decision of whether or not to run for office. You’ve supported SarahPAC’s past efforts to defeat Obama liberals across the country, and I’m asking for your help again.

Let’s show Governor Palin that she has our support as she faces this crucial decision!

America is facing a tough road back to prosperity, but we can get there with commonsense conservative leadership from Governor Palin and the support of the Tea Party Revolution she led during the 2010 mid-term elections.

Our President has failed to take the initiative required to ease the economic difficulties facing our nation, and we need real change.

Will you support Governor Palin with a generous donation to SarahPAC today?

Thank you for your continuing support of Governor Palin and SarahPAC. You can also help her by sharing our message with your friends and family on Facebook and Twitter!

Sincerely,

Tim Crawford

Sarah Palin: Hawkeye Granite

As posted at SarahPAC.com:

Hawkeye Granite

Just wrapping up an awesome four day trip to the Hawkeye and Granite States. Visiting with residents there it's easy to see why they play such an important role in vetting America's leaders. Todd and I were able to interact directly with informed Americans and hear their concerns first hand outside the media spin.

Yesterday morning I joined the "Jump Right in and Run" half marathon in Storm Lake, Iowa and last night in Manchester, New Hampshire we enjoyed a lovely dinner at the Puritan Back Room. The local folks we met with were wonderfully nice and true American patriots. Their concerns were common - the massive burden of government on small businesses, the abysmal economy and employment rate and their strong desire to restore America.

These good folks are tired of politics as usual; Tired of being spoon-fed by packaged politicos and tired of the twisted sound bites and 30-second ads. They want solutions and they deserve strong, honest leadership.

Thank you to the citizens of Iowa and New Hampshire for your hospitality, your thoughtful questions and picking up where the media left off in vetting and challenging us all on our vision for America's future.

Have a safe and happy Labor Day. We will see you again soon.

Paul Sracic: Don't count out Sarah Palin

What is most Reaganesque about Palin is her optimism about America appears natural.
*
Political science professor Paul Sracic, in a commentary published by CNN.com, admits that until just a few days ago, he did not consider Sarah Palin to be a "serious" candidate. But now he says that if she gets into the presidential race, she'll be "a formidable candidate" - not just in the GOP primary, but in the general election should she win her party's presidential nomination. What changed his mind? Something in SarahPAC's "Iowa Passion" video:
In the video, the initial scenes of bright sunlight shining over Iowa cornfields lead into uplifting images of young people and young couples with children smiling and enjoying the day at the Iowa State Fair. In a phrase, it is "Morning in America." Those of us of a certain age remember the Reagan campaign's seminal commercial of that name, an advertisement that helped to secure his crushing landslide re-election in 1984.

Of course, since Reagan was already completing his first term in office, his commercial referred to what he claimed to have already done. Palin, on the other hand, is speaking to the future. In quasi-religious terms, she criticizes the lack of "faith" that Washington has in the American people, while confidently championing the coming "great awakening." What this shows more than anything else is that Palin understands what Reagan always knew: Americans want to be optimists. More important, she is media savvy enough to know how to deliver that message in a captivating fashion.

My point is not that Palin is Reagan. They differ in many obvious and substantial ways.

[...]

Palin, however, has risen to prominence in a different age. Twenty-four-hour news stations provide much more exposure in a shorter period. Compared to Bachmann and Perry, at least, Palin is a veteran on the political scene. More significant, however, is the fact that, like Reagan, Palin has the correct media skills for the age.

[...]

What is most Reaganesque about Sarah Palin, however, is that on camera, her optimism about America appears natural. This is a quality that should not be underestimated, since it allows her the leeway to be negative without turning off voters by appearing mean-spirited. This offers at least the possibility that, despite her current low standing in the polls, she will be able to leap-frog over the more negative sounding Bachmann and Perry, and compete head-to-head with Romney.

Even more than they did in 2008, Americans want hope. What Palin's handlers have in the former governor is a candidate they can cast in a pitch-perfect media campaign that blends a criticism of the Obama administration with a positive message about the future.
Prof. Stracic takes pains to point out that he is predicting neither a Palin presidency nor her nomination by the 2012 RNC convention. What he does make clear, however, is that Gov. Palin should not be counted out "before she has had a chance to campaign." The political scientist concludes his opinion piece with a reminder that an ABC news poll in January 1980 showed Ronald Reagan far behind sitting President Jimmy Carter, down 30 points. And this was eight full months before Reagan had even won his party's nomination.

SarahPAC - Setting The Record Straight: Wrong & Misleading

As posted at SarahPAC
*
Three years ago DC pundits predicted with glee the demise of Sarah Palin's political career. This past weekend their tune changed, citing false information that she has made a decision and set a date regarding a future campaign. Any professional pundit claiming to have "inside information" regarding Governor Palin's personal decision is not only wrong but their comments are specifically intended to mislead the American public. These are the same tired establishment political games that fuel the 24 hour news cycle and that all American's will hopefully reject in 2012, and this is more of the "politics-as-usual" that Sarah Palin has fought against throughout her career.

PS - Kudos to CNN for setting the record straight, and including Governor Palin's own words

Sarah Palin: A Humbling Reminder of Our Duty

As posted at SarahPAC
*
We spent a very moving day in Kansas City, Missouri, where it’s easy to remember what really matters, because here we have the National World War I Museum and Liberty Memorial.

The Liberty Memorial Tower is dedicated “In honor of those who served in the World War in defense of liberty and our country.” Reading the many memorial inscriptions while standing in the rain was a somber and humbling reminder of the sacrifices young Americans made nearly a century ago in distant battlefields so far from home. So many of them never returned from those fields in France and Belgium. Yes, it was a somber, real, significant moment reading those words about the honor in one’s dedication to God and country.

The main inscription on the memorial reads: “These have dared bear the torches of sacrifice and service. Their bodies return to dust but their work liveth evermore. Let us strive on to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.”

I took the above photo of Piper and my niece McKinley with the memorial in the background. It brought home to me what this “One Nation Tour” is about. It’s about the duty we have not just to the living, but also to the dead and to the generations yet to be born. Our founders called us the “heirs of freedom,” and as such we have a duty to those who have already paid the price for us to live in freedom, and we have a duty to those who will come after us.

Our freedom was purchased by millions of men now long-forgotten throughout our history who charged the cannons, ran into bayonets, suffered in the trenches, and gave their lives so that we could live in relative comfort doing what we feel led to do. We can’t squander what they gave us or what the next generation expects from us. This is why visiting these historic sites and bringing your children to see them is so important. This is why I wanted to bring my own children with me to show them our history and remind them that America’s children will carry the torch of freedom one day.

Now it’s back to Alaska for the start of the school year. (And, of course, our annual visit to our own state fair where Piper looks forward to clogging on the Blue Bonnet Stage!) While kids crack open their school books, I look forward to continuing my own writing and research on strategies and plans to help move our country forward.

We will be back on the road soon, for on September 3rd we’ve been invited to a big Tea Party “Restoring America” rally in Waukee, Iowa. We hope to see many of you there as we gather to discuss the direction of our country and the way forward with our fundamental restoration of all that is good and strong and free in America. You can click here for more information on the event.

Thank you all for your support and for sharing this leg through the Heartland of the "One Nation Tour" with us.

With an Alaskan heart,

Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin: Good Sunday Morning!

As posted at SarahPAC
*
Good morning from Springfield, Illinois!

We had another great day yesterday traveling through the Midwest. We stopped to walk in the footsteps of Ronald Wilson Reagan at his alma mater Eureka College, enjoyed fried chicken at a local restaurant that “Dutch” frequented, and crossed on a few dirt roads following field after field of corn and soybeans.

Our country is an extraordinarily beautiful place. But the people here are everything. As Reagan said, “The most valuable lesson I learned at Eureka is that every individual makes a difference.” Individuals can make a difference. We have to.

The gritty, humble strength of America’s heartland is on display in the places we’ve visited the last few days, where individuals work together to pull resource and bounty from our land. We’ve met so many great people who are committed to their community and united by strong values and love of country.

Thank you Eureka, Dixon, and all the places we stopped at yesterday. This trip continues to inspire at every turn.

P.S. Congratulations to all those who participated in Ames yesterday.

Gov. Palin - Nothing Compares: An Inspiring Day At The Iowa State Fair

As posted at SarahPAC:
*
It was wonderful to be back in Iowa today to visit the historic Iowa State Fair! Thank you for the invitation and tremendous hospitality, Iowa friends. We had the opportunity to meet more great Americans from the heartland and talk about the issues confronting our country today and the sort of leadership we need to move forward. Iowans have big hearts and a great deal of common sense, which makes visiting here all the more inspiring and insightful. Like the majority of Americans across the nation, the good folks here know that our country is in need of a restoration of the free market and constitutional principles that have made us strong and free and will make us that again as we get our country back on the right track.

The work ethic shown here by these farm families is so encouraging. The kids involved in healthy activities like 4-H and FFA are proud, strong young Americans who’ll grow up to help feed the country and run the nation’s economic engine – our small businesses. Keep up the great work, farmers!

What an inspiring day with great Americans. Oh, and the butter cow really is amazing... as is the fried butter-on-a-stick, the fried twinkie, the pork chops, etc.!

SarahPAC: Governor Palin's Statement on the One Nation Tour

As posted at SarahPAC.com
*

We are very happy to jump back on the bus for another leg of our "One Nation Tour"! We accept with gratefulness an invitation to meet folks at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines this week. The heartland is perfect territory for more of the One Nation Tour as we put forth efforts to revitalize the fundamental restoration of America by highlighting our nation's heart, history, and founding principles.

In a grossly weakened economy - especially when recovery is thwarted by today's Obamanomics - prudent Americans make sensible decisions to live within their means. This includes seeking affordable participation in more community events, local patriotic parades, and traditional all-American venues like state fairs. State fairs hold a special place in our nation's history and heritage, so my family is honored to highlight one of them on one stop along the One Nation Tour route - America's historic Iowa State Fair! (I'm also excited to try some of that famous fried butter-on-a-stick, fried cheesecake-on-a-stick, fried twinkies, etc. I'll enjoy them in honor of those who'd rather make us just "eat our peas"!)

Unlike next week's Obama Bus Tour, taxpayers aren't funding our tour, which is why we so appreciate your support in allowing us to be out there on the open road to visit with you to highlight small towns, big-hearted people, and the important role they play in our most exceptional nation.

You can participate with support for the "One Nation Tour" through SarahPAC.com and following virtually by bookmarking the SarahPAC website. We'll have updates from the road as our Constitution-draped bus travels to shine a spotlight on more of our nation's fine history. Watch this video and let the American road inspire you!

Thank you for your continued support of SarahPAC. Let's stay committed to the worthy cause - restoring all that is good and strong and free in America!

Thank you sincerely,

Sarah Palin

One Nation bus tour to roll again tomorrow (Updated)

Gov. Palin will be in Iowa before the Ames straw poll
*

It's been nearly three months since the "One Nation" bus tour traveled up the east coast, but it will soon be rolling into Iowa, according to a SarahPAC fundraising email obtained by CNN.
Palin is bringing her Constitution-themed bus to the Iowa State Fair, just 30 miles south of where the Republican presidential field will take the stage on Thursday for a presidential debate in Ames.

It's not yet clear which day the tour will begin, but her surprise arrival in Iowa will happen before the closely watched Ames straw poll. Palin is not on the straw poll ballot.

According to a video link included the fundraising email for Palin's political action committee, it appears the bus will also take Palin to Missouri and Illinois to visit the respective hometowns of former presidents Harry Truman and Ronald Reagan.

"The heartland is perfect territory for more of the One Nation Tour as we put forth efforts to revitalize the fundamental restoration of America by highlighting our nation's heart, history, and founding principles," Palin writes in the email.

Tim Crawford, the treasurer, confirmed the authenticity of the email but would not provide more the details about the tour.

For Palin supporters, her return to Iowa, like the 2012 election, can't come soon enough.

Update: The bus rolls tomorrow.
ABC News has confirmed that Sarah Palin will re-launch her “One Nation” bus tour in Iowa tomorrow, the same day that Republican presidential contenders will take the stage for a debate in Ames, Iowa.

Statement from Gov. Palin’s Attorney on dismissal of frivolous Litman complaint

An illogical and absurd complaint
*
Here's the statement from Gov. Palin’s Attorney John J. Tiemessen on the dismissal of a frivolous complaint that had been filed by Malia Litman, a blogger who seems to have nothing better to do in her sad life but attack the governor on left wing websites:
The Alaska Attorney General’s office has dismissed yet another frivolous ethics complaint filed against Governor Palin by a leftwing political blogger. This particular blogger is from Texas (where she volunteered as a precinct captain for Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign), and yet her dismissed complaint against Governor Palin has cost the State of Alaska time and resources because no matter how absurd the complaint is, the state must respond to it. These complaints also cost Governor Palin personally to defend herself. This small band of leftwing bloggers have dedicated their lives to spreading lies, half-truths, and failed legal analysis about allegations of “corruption” against Governor Palin. This dismissed complaint is just the latest example of their destructive strategy to harass a political leader they disagree with.

This particular complaint alleged that Governor Palin violated Alaska’s Executive Branch Ethics Act because the production company that made “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” received a film tax credit from the State of Alaska related to its expenses in making the series. It should be noted that Governor Palin never received any direct money or compensation from this tax credit. The legislation that created this tax credit was crafted and passed by Alaska lawmakers and signed into law by Governor Palin. In dismissing this complaint, the Alaska Attorney General’s office outlines the illogic and absurdity of exempting former governors from complying with statutes they signed into law for two years after they leave office.

You can read the Attorney General’s opinion here.

ICYMI: SarahPAC offers early release DVD of 'The Undefeated'

"Now you and I must fix our eyes on 2012."
*
In case you missed it (ICYMI), SarahPAC has extended an offer, made earlier to prior donors, to also include first-time contributors of $100 or more, to receive an early release copy of 'The Undefeated" on DVD:
Taking back control of the House last year was only the first step. Now you and I must fix our eyes on 2012. Our goal is to take back the White House and the Senate. We must take back control of Congress and the White House in order to undo the damage done by the disastrous Obama/Pelosi/Reid agenda.

I’ll be supporting commonsense conservative candidates in crucial off-year elections and doing all that I can to ramp up our preparations for 2012. And I promise to join you in holding new members of Congress accountable to ensure that they live up to their campaign promises to rein in out-of-control government spending and to repeal and replace the massive, burdensome, and unwanted Obamacare bill.

Can I count on your support as we look ahead to 2012?
If we remember correctly, today is the last day of the FEC's six-month filing period, so if you donate today, your contribution will be included in the total amount reported by SarahPAC on its next filing statement, which should be out in a few days.

SarahPAC - Setting the Record Straight: Here We Go Again

"Basic fact-checking is your friend, media. Try it some time."
*
SarahPAC sets the record straight one more time:

Wouldn’t it be nice if Beltway gossip magazines did some rudimentary fact-checking before they ran with stories? That is, of course, assuming that they’re not just making stories up out of thin air.

Take, for example, a Politico story out today alleging that Governor Palin’s “Team” is contacting a “list” of Iowa politicos for meetings. The story even quotes one such person who is purported to be on that list for a meeting. Only one problem: it’s not true. Real Clear Politics debunked Politico’s trumped up story:

Politico reported on Monday that Palin aides were reaching out to Iowa operatives and activists to set up meetings during her visit, citing Chuck Laudner, a former Iowa GOP executive director. But Laudner told RCP that he did not have a private meeting scheduled with Palin and that no one who works for the former governor had made contact with him.

Laudner said that he received an invitation to attend the festivities surrounding the movie premiere from Peter Singleton, a California native who moved to Iowa several months ago to help organize in the state in advance of a possible Palin presidential run. Singleton is acting on his own and is not a Palin aide but has often been confused for one as he has made his presence known across the state.

So basically we have a story that is completely bogus. Basic fact-checking is your friend, media. Try it some time.

In the meantime, Governor Palin looks forward to spending time tomorrow with the people of Pella, Iowa, and enjoying the premiere of Stephen K. Bannon’s new film, “The Undefeated.” After that, she heads to Minnesota to join her daughter Bristol at a book signing for Bristol's new book "Not Afraid of Life" at the Mall of America. Then back to Alaska for jury duty.

Donate to SarahPAC, get a DVD of 'The Undefeated'

"It is absolutely critical that as many Americans as possible see this film- and soon."
*
SarahPAC is snail-mailing letters to the political action committee's prior donors offering an early-release DVD of “The Undefeated” for a contribution of $100 or more. The letters, signed by Sarah PAC Treasurer Tim Crawford, reference the great potential of Stephen Bannon's documentary to change many hearts and minds about Gov. Palin and calls on recipients to "stop letting the Palin haters and the national news media distort Sarah’s record especially now as America looks ahead to new leadership in 2012":
It is absolutely critical that as many Americans as possible see this film- and soon.

This documentary shatters the lies and distortions that have been spread by the biased media about Sarah Palin and her take-back-America brand of conservatism.

Day in and day out I hear Sarah denounced as “polarizing” and “extreme” by the national news media.

What are these “polarizing” things Sarah believes?

Well, like you and me, Sarah Palin believes that Americans should be able to choose their own doctor- not be forced into “Obamacare” against their will.

She believes that we need to start relying on our own natural resources instead of paying foreign dictators for oil.

She believes that every life is precious. That our Constitution doesn’t need to be rewritten by radical judges. And that Judeo-Christian values that our Founding Fathers embraced should still be our foundation today.

Those beliefs aren’t “polarizing”. They’re American.

And it’s time for patriots like you and me to stop letting the Palin haters and the national news media distort Sarah’s record especially now as America looks ahead to new leadership in 2012.

One way we can set the record straight is by making sure that millions of Americans see “The Undefeated”.
The FEC's six-month filing period for SarahPAC ends June 30. Donation to the leadership PAC can be made here.

The official website for "The Undefeated" is here. You can follow "The Undefeated on Facebook here and Twitter here.

SarahPAC: About that Hard-Working Governor Behind the Emails...

"We need your help collecting and archiving excerpts."
*
The folks at SarahPAC know a good idea when they see it:
Conservatives4Palin.com has come up with the great idea of encouraging readers to do their own archiving of Governor Palin’s emails:
Setting the Record Straight: About the Hard-Working Governor Behind the Emails

The media went crazy thinking they were going to find a smoking gun on Governor Palin by forcing the State of Alaska to release 24,199 pages of email communications during her time in office. They were wrong and have admitted as much. After the media spent so much time and effort, they discovered no “bombshells,” which of course they were hoping for all along....

The media is cherry-picking small excerpts to highlight, but they are leaving the bulk of the 24,199 pages out of their reports. That’s where you come in…

We need to gather links from the email database that prove what kind of leader Governor Palin really is. We need to find the stuff the media doesn’t want the public to know about. We want to show the stuff they aren’t reporting but is still available online. The media wanted to “expose” what kind of executive Governor Palin was while in office… So, let us oblige them! We need your help collecting and archiving excerpts.
Read more here about how you can get involved. We encourage everyone to join in. We'll link to the finished results here.
Sauce for the goose and sauce for the gander.

SarahPAC calls out Politico for fabricated false quote

A total fabrication yet deliberately written to appear as a legitimate direct quote
*
Politico has been caught red-handed attributing this false quote to Sarah Palin:
“I built this constituency, not Bachmann, not anyone else,” she said.
No, she did not, and SarahPAC called them out on it:
Setting the Record Straight: About False Quotes Attributed to Gov. Palin

An absurd opinion piece in Politico includes a quote attributed to Governor Palin that is a total fabrication and yet is deliberately written to appear as if it is a legitimate direct quote. By any standard this is unacceptable even for an opinion piece. This puts us in mind of a real quote of something Governor Palin actually did once say to the media: “Quit making stuff up.”

Sarah Palin: The American Spirit

As posted at SarahPAC:
*
The American Spirit (Unfortunately Missed by the MSM)

Our family has been blessed with an opportunity to showcase all that is good and strong and free about our exceptional nation.

Even though the media too often sadly chose sound-bites over substance, they did get lots of substance during our “One Nation” tour from the nearly two dozen opportunities I got to speak candidly with them and talk about policy, politics, history, and everything in between. More importantly, I got to talk with countless everyday Americans who want to get our country back on the right track.

It’s been an extraordinary honor to meet so many fellow patriots who care deeply about this country, who want a brighter future for all of us, and who recognize the undeviating line that connects our history to our future.

Not surprising, some members of the media missed a lot of this due to their relentless and futile search for scuttlebutt. So, we assembled this video to capture the amazing Americana spirit of the places and people we visited. I invite you to enjoy this recap of last week’s east coast bus tour.

Please remember we must learn about our past – our great successes, our bitter struggles, our enduring strength – in order to navigate through the challenges ahead so that we might remain a shining city on a hill and the abiding beacon of freedom.

As we look to our Charters of Liberty and our strong foundation to fundamentally restore America, we'll keep moving forward... and we'll keep reporting on it ourselves.

Sarah Palin: Amazing Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island!

Ronald Reagan spoke of "our shared values and the common thread of the American dream..."
*
Gov. Palin checks in at SarahPAC with a midday One Nation Tour update:
Amazing Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island!

What a wonderful day to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island!

Seeing all the young students on field trips - and generations of families visiting as one - I was reminded of a Ronald Reagan speech from Liberty State Park in September 1980. He spoke of the Americans who passed through Ellis Island and whose first glimpse of their adopted country was the grand statue in New York’s harbor. He talked about our shared values and the common thread of the American dream across an endless mix of backgrounds.

And I was struck by the many visitors from overseas who were drawn to this place, not merely for its aesthetic beauty but also as a symbol for freedom and liberty.

Ellis Island and Liberty Island truly endure as lasting beacons of hope and the opportunity to live an American dream. Lady Liberty is the symbol of unity and friendship we have with other freedom-loving nations. It's also a "warning" of sorts, as France encouraged us to keep democracy alive as the recipient of this gift... basically telling us not to blow it. Thank you for this reminder, France!

Now on to visit colleagues at the FOX studios.
