Fear and Loathing in the Pages of Newsweak: NewsBuster Tim Graham chronicles the latest propaganda push by the leftist glossy magazine:

The April 19 Newsweek cover that's shamelessly selling the "remarkable" tale of our economic recovery also promises a story on "Hate on the Right." In fact the word "HATE" takes up half a page, white letters on a black background, with the subhead "Antigovernment extremists are on the rise – and on the march."

Pictures illustrating the article strangely connect Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin with 1930's socialists. The caption read:

"Huey Long castigated the rich and Father Coughlin denounced Jews in the 1930s. Today, the microphones belong to Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin."

(Beck's previous impassioned rebuttal of the comparison to Coughlin is ignored.)

This raises the question: if it's fair to somehow associate Beck and Palin with 1930s left-wing ranters, how did Newsweek treat the much more factual connection between Barack Obama and Weatherman bomber Bill Ayers, or Obama's membership for two decades in the church of Jeremiah Wright? Unsurprisingly, those connections were downplayed, and Obama was "disappointed" by being failed by these associates.

It was one year ago that Graham's boss at MRC, Brent Bozell, commented on "The Decline and Fall of Newsweek" in an op-ed for Real Clear Politics.

Bent Strawman: Sarah Palin, during her speech last night in Illinois poked fun at the media-generated fracus over the "diva demands" allegedly listed in the contract governing her speech at a California State University, Stanislaus. Gov. Palin thanked the organizers of the Five Points Washington event for furnishing a water bottle complete with a straw - "the bent kind, which I just read in the media that I supposedly insist upon."

At Intrade, the political futures market, is bullish, er... moose-ish on Sarah Palin's political prospects:

Is Palin positioning herself for a run at Obama's job in 2012? The lady herself has given no indication of her plans, but the Intrade market reflects a growing confidence she will announce a run for the top job.

The market currently shows a 58.8% chance Palin will run. This is up from the 55.0% probability given at the start of the month and well up from the 43.5% chance given at the start of February.

Will Sarah run? The market thinks she just might.

How reliable is the Intrade market? We tend to believe it is a much more reliable indicator than some of the know-nothing pretend pundits and Beltway insiders who have been saying lately that there's no way the governor will run.

Saturday night's not all right for fighting: Washington, Illinois law enforcement officers have been preparing for Sarah Palin's appearance at the Five Points "Lessons from Leaders" event:

Washington Police Chief Jim Kuchenbecker has the unenviable task of making sure ticket-holders and the expected protesters co-exist.

Kuchenbecker said he's been contacted by three groups of prospective protesters. One obtained a permit to demonstrate from 5 to 8:30 p.m. in the downtown square. The other groups plan to protest outside Five Points, 360 N. Wilmor Road.

"As long as those who plan to protest at Five Points stay in the public area and don't obstruct traffic or bother people coming to the event, we won't bother them," Kuchenbecker said. "We're not going to trample on their First Amendment rights, but they can't break the law."

All 20 full-time members of the Washington Police Department and 10 of 12 part-time members will work Saturday, including 18 assigned to the Five Points area in the afternoon and evening. Five Points, not Washington taxpayers, will foot the bill for the extra police services.

Here's hoping the town won't have to witness the vile sort of Leftist violence that was shamefully on display in New Orleans last weekend.

Co-Stars Fell on Alabama: Fox affiliate WBRC has a good story about the father and son duo of Chuck Heath Senior and Junior tea partying with Alabamians in the Birmingham suburb of Hoover, AL.

Got Schadenfreude? Washington Post magazine contributing editor Cathy Areu gave a demonstration of why the political left is increasingly being viewed with disgust by independents when she appeared on moonbat-crazy cable network MSNBC:

CATHY AREU: Sarah Palin could do no wrong for so many people. I mean, she is a female Larry the Cable Guy, minus the class and intelligence.

Independents have grown weary of this stuff. They want to hear an explanation of why their friends and family members can't find a job, but all the left wants to do is trash prominent conservatives, Gov. Palin most notably.

And to demonstrate MSNBC's lack of credibility, the network's Peter Alexander claimed Friday afternoon:

"Areu said thanks but no thanks to Fox. Saying she wanted to appear right here on MSNBC. We don't blame her."

Alexander's hubris was short-lived however, as Areu showed up just hours later as Bill O'Reilly's guest on Fox's "The Factor."

Go Canada: The full transcript of Gov. Palin's Charity of Hope speech, as delivered Thursday night in Hamilton, Ont. has been posted on the Web by Canada's newspaper of record, The Globe and Mail.

Sarah Palin, Blogmeister: Frances Martel, in a Mediaite piece which only rates about a 2.3 on the Snark-O-Meter, describes Sarah Palin's Facebook page as "arguably the most newsworthy Facebook page of all time." Martel also says it's "the most influential policy blog in America," but why that is the case remains a "mystery" to her. You really need to get our more, Francis. Spend a week far from madding elites in flyover country, and you might begin to get a clue about why Gov. Palin's message resonates so well with ordinary Americans. Martel also dubs Sarah Palin "the most powerful blogger in America." Hey, looks like we Palin-blogger types are in good company!

Drill, Canada, Drill: Bloomberg's Joe Schneider reports that in her speech north of the lower 48 last night, Sarah Palin urged Canada to increase its oil production:

“Ramp up development,” she told an audience in Hamilton, Ontario. “There’s an inherent link between energy and security.”

Palin, the 2008 Republican nominee for vice president, campaigned with a slogan of “drill baby, drill” to urge greater U.S. oil exploration. She spoke [Thursday night] at a fundraising dinner to an audience of about 900 people who paid much as C$1,000 ($998) to attend.

Palin, 46, said American attitudes are changing ahead of November’s midterm congressional elections, demonstrated by the growth of the Tea Party movement seeking less government spending and fewer programs.

“There’s a shift in American politics right now,” Palin said. The tea parties “are a blast.”

And organizers had said prior to the speech that her address wasn't supposed to be political...

The Stoney Creek News had a mostly positive write-up of the governor's speech:

Former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin applauded Canada’s wartime sacrifices in Afghanistan, praised the country’s Olympic gold-medal victory in hockey and detailed her “earth-shattering” year that included adding two new babies to her family during her speech in Hamilton last night.

Palin, the former governor of Alaska who reportedly earned about $100,000 for her evening participating, entertained about 900 people at Carmen’s Banquet Hall during the tightly controlled charity event with a mix of home-spun stories, self-deprecating humour and repeated praises [of] Canada and Hamilton.

Palin, a self-proclaimed hockey mother of five kids, quoting former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz, said “God did not put us on Earth to be ordinary. He has given us opportunities to be productive.”

You betcha: Either the Boston Herald is taking its own Palin-Romney story too seriously, or it is impressed that some bloggers are taking it seriously. We're not sure which is the case. Some other bloggers are not convinced, but remain intrigued.

Plans for the new group are set to be announced on Sunday...

Dude! Sarah Palin's dad Chuck Heath was a crowd-pleaser at the Veterans Park Tea Party at Veterans Park in Hoover, Alabama last night. The Birmingham News reports that he talked about how his daughter's rock star status has brought an end to the family's privacy. According to Heath, one letter was delivered to the Palin's house with the simple address of "First Dude, Alaska."

¡Adios! is too good a word: Palin-hatin' gutter comic George Lopez said on Larry King's show:

"If Sarah Palin wins and runs for president in 2012, I have a, on a reliable source, as the head of all the Latinos, we will voluntarily go back to Mexico if she becomes President of the United States."

We know some Latinos who have said rather emphatically that Lopez doesn't speak for them. And we appreciate the contributions Latinos in general have made to Texas culture. But in the specific case of Lopez, when Sarah Palin becomes president, we will personally volunteer to drive the jerk to the border crossing of his choice.

Dems' Dumpster Diving Docs Disputed: As we reported last night, the claim by two CSUS students that they found pages from Sarah Palin's contract in a campus dumpster have been disputed by the university's president. Hamid Shirvani says the paperwork was not part of Sarah Palin's speaking contract, but an unsigned copy of an earlier version of the agreement:

"Somebody took pages four to nine of an earlier contract, unsigned, that the vice president for advancement threw in her recycling trash bin," Shirvani said as he spoke on the matter for the first time. "This is not the contract. There's no price on it."

Tuesday, several students opposed to Gov. Palin's June 25 speaking engagement at the school appeared at a news conference with State Senator Leland Yee, a Democrat from San Francisco, and a pile of documents, including bank stubs, financial spreadsheets and five pages of what Yee and the students claimed was part of the Palin contract.

Looks to us like another loaded cigar has made some Democrat heads explode. Wyle E. Coyote goes off the cliff again...

Not a Kernell of Truth: The son of a Democrat state Rep. in Tennessee will finally go to trial next week for wire fraud and intentionally accessing Sarah Palin’s e-mail account back in 2008. Gov. What side of the cable are you on? An interesting study of the demographics and political orientation of those who watch cable television finds that viewers of the History Channel, Discovery and TLC are very right-leaning:

She replied in a manner that was consistent with Reagan's 11th Commandment. People shouldn't try to make too much out of it. Please come to Boston for the springtime: Today's the day of the Boston Tea Party 2.0, with Sarah Palin and an expected crowd of 10,000. A commendably snark-free editorial in today's liberal Boston Globe posits that:

"Getting people engaged in politics, and feeling that they can make an impact on the local scene, freshens a sometimes-stagnant system. Palin, whose commitment to grass-roots reform remains her most appealing trait, deserves credit for motivating her supporters."

[...]

"A lot of good can come from open engagement. In that respect, Palin’s visit is a plus for Boston, and she should be welcomed by all."

The race-baiting communists at Workers World were considerably less reasonable in their editorial, using some form of "raaaacist" no less than eight times in just three paragraphs. The Reds who edit WW were somewhat more restrained with their use of "faaaascist," choosing to employ the epithet only twice in the aforementioned three graphs.

The Commies/Socialists/Whatever aren't the only ones who will be counter-protesting the Tea Party protest. Their fellow-travelling Democrat cousins will be doing so, as will some infiltrator filth. Nobody likes party crashers, at least nobody on the sane side of political center, that is.

The busybodies who get so wee-wee'd up over how financially successful the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate has been since the end of July may be surprised to learn that Gov. Palin will not be paid for her Boston Tea Party appearance, that is if they are capable of learning anything at all:

“She’s appearing because she supports the Tea Party Express and the Tea Party movement,” said Tea Party Express chairman Mark Williams. “She’s doing this on her own dime.”

Tea Party TV will be streaming the event live, as will Boston's WHDH-TV. CNN Live and Fox News LiveStream may also provide coverage. With Congress back in session, we wouldn't count on C-SPAN to do the same. There are live threads going at Free Republic and Conservatives 4 Palin.

Bull’s-eye in the Big Easy: Jedediah Bila believes that Gov. Palin's SRLC speech proved that she's "ready for the next step, whatever it may be":

"Make no mistake: Sarah Palin has definitely arrived."

Play it Again, Sam: Rick's Café Américain blog quotes Israel Matzav, for whom Sarah Palin's statement that "Jerusalem is not a settlement, and Israel is our friend" was music to his ears.

Tough Act to Follow: Times-Picayune reporter Stephanie Grace is focused on Bobby Jindal's political prospects, even though the Pelican State's governor has made it clear that he's not at all interested in jumping into the 2012 presidential race:

"He didn't electrify the room like Palin did, but... he lives to fight another day."

The publisher, flat-tax maven, and former presidential candidate Steve Forbes is a Paul backer. So is former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, whose organization FreedomWorks lists Paul as one of the five most important candidates to support in 2010. Concerned Women for America has endorsed Paul, helping to allay concerns about his social conservatism. Gun Owners of America weighed in on Paul’s behalf as well, though there were never any questions about his opposition to gun control.

Gov. Palin was Alaska co-chair of the of the Steve Forbes presidential campaign in 1999.

Stimulus/Response: It didn't take long after Doug Brady's C4P post yesterday making the case that Sarah Palin is presidential right now for Dan Riehl to put up a slightly dissenting opinion. Conservatives 4 Palin must be living in Riehl's head, rent-free.

Chris Crass: WaPo political blogger Chris Cillizza appears to be trying to create a "sarcasm" meme around The Arctic Fox. He certainly uses the word, or a derivative of it, often enough in a column gratuitously titled "The Sarcasm of Sarah Palin." Gee, Chris, it's not like Gov. Palin's detractors have ever used any mean ol' sarcasm in their 24/7 Alinsky attacks on her, now is it? Among those detractors, Joshuapundit points out, is POTUS.

Magnificent Obsession: Will someone please tell these people that the 2012 presidential primaries are yet twenty long months away? If we recall correctly, everyone was telling us in 2006 that a Rudy vs. Hillary match was a certainty. Things change.

Political Pistachio: The rising stars in the conservative constellation are... women. Thank you, Mrs. Thatcher, for inspiring all those young girls who are now all grown up.

While the Left just loves Tina Fey's reprise of her Sarah Palin impersonation as guest host of SNL Saturday and can't stop talking about it on Al Gore's internets, real grown ups can see that the old Fey schtick ain't what she used to be. The Hillbuzz boyzz saw it coming before the show even aired:

"The funny thing is, the joke’s on you, Tina. You’re the one who said you’d never play Palin again if your life depended on it. Well, tonight you are playing Palin again apparently. Does your career depend upon it?"

And Big Hollywood says Tina Should have kept her word and kept the character retired, because what were once funny jokes are now simply mean-spirited insults:

"In 2008, SNL was able to affect the Presidential election with provocative original satire; you could debate what was in their messages, but not that the messages were delivered effectively. Now they’re just piling on with dated Palin-is-dumb jokes (such as a winking joke, a writing on hand joke, a death panel joke, a Katie Couric interview joke…). Yawn. Fake Sarah Palin has lost her edge."

We've noticed that the Left seems to go ga-ga over television characters and get more worked up over them than they do about real-life situations. They spent weeks defending the "Family Guy" Palin smear after Gov. Palin mentioned it once and had already moved on. Now the Tina Fey guest shot on SNL is the biggest thing on Planet Leftune for them. It must give them great comfort at a time when Sarah Palin pwned the entire Obama Administration on nuclear strategy.

Boston radio talker Michael Graham proves that "An Angry Progressive’s Picture Is Worth A Thousand 'Angry, Right-Wing' Words" (h/t: Glenn Reynolds).

Over on Planet Ronulus, the Ronulans willingly concede that Sarah Palin "definitely has the largest number of fans" on Facebook, but opine that the 2008 vice presidential candidate has "little appeal among middle of the road type people." Then they claim that this is "not a problem" for Ron Paul. Say what? We must assume Paul's great popularity with middle-of-the-roaders is what accounts for all the Primaries he won in 2008. Oh, wait...

At FiveThirtyEight, where they play with numbers in all sorts of interesting ways, Tom Schaller has calculated the "Borda Count" for the vote-getters in the Saturdays SRLC straw poll. These figures are arrived at by factoring the first-choice and second-choice preferences for each candidate. Here's what Tom came up with:

"Unconvinced voters - from Tea Party members to the apathetic - would be regarded as a market and not a menace. It would be the job of the progressive populist politics to change their minds. This means replacing the MSNBC model of 'aren't they stupid' with what the Quakers called the concept of "reciprocal liberty," i.e. you can't have your freedom unless I have mine. In other words, all sides need to rediscover the idea of tolerance towards those with whom we disagree."

"There is nothing to be gained by simply being the mirror image of the Tea Parties, but a lot to be gained by changing the nature and tone of the debate. Good luck with that, Sam. The radical left, armed as they are with their Alinsky Rules, control all of the territory to the left of center, and they simply won't allow cooler heads to prevail. They're determined to go over the cliff, and anyone who doesn't want to get on board that bus will get thrown under it.

The updated sales total for Gov. Palin's memoir is 2,674,684 copies.

At The Corner, Kathryn Jean Lopez found it noteworthy that Sarah Palin cited K-Lo's NRO colleague Jonah Goldberg in the governor's SRLC speech.

And at RedHampshire.com, Fergus Cullen laments the fact that Sarah Palin hasn't visited the Granite State since she made three stops there in October of 2008. Noting that the GOP's first female vice presidential candidate drew a crowd of 6,000 to Salem High during the '08 campaign, Cullen says Gov. Palin "has a large and receptive audience in New Hampshire eager to see her."
