6 Month Restraining Orders granted to Sarah Palin, Kristan Cole against Shawn Christy

A six month restraining order was issued today by Judge Suzanne Cole to protect Sarah Palin and Kristan Cole from Shawn Christy. It's my understanding that the court had to find that the crime of "stalking in the second degree" was committed in order to issue the two orders in pdf below.

Christy is the Pennsylvania man who made death threats against both women. Temporary (20 day) restraining orders were granted to Gov. Palin and Ms. Cole September 27 by Anchorage Magistrate Colleen Ray, but both women had requested longer-term protective orders, which were granted Monday.

Shawn Christy admits threatening Gov. Palin

Shawn R. Christy, the man Sarah Palin was granted a restraining order against, has admitted in an interview with a Pennsylvania newspaper that he threatened her:

In an interview Wednesday night at his McAdoo home, Christy said he tried to contact former presidential candidate U.S. Sen. John McCain and Palin, McCain's running mate, because he believed the U.S. Secret Service had tampered with his cell phone.

Christy said he began making threats to get their attention and have his phone fixed.

"It wasn't the brightest idea," Christy said Wednesday.

Shawn claims he turned himself into authorities in Washington for the threatening messages but was never charged. His parents soon became involved when Secret Service agents visited the family at their home and interviewed Shawn on June 18. He still wasn't charged with a crime but was ordered to undergo a psychological review, according to his father, although Shawn was found to have no problems.

Shawn said he admitted making threats to McCain, Palin and President Barack Obama. He also admitted to trying to contact Palin through Cole, Palin's family, her attorney and the Alaska governor's office. He said he found the numbers by looking them up in online phone directories.

Shawn also said he called Palin's office in 2008 because he was a supporter and wanted to know more about her views. Shawn said he intended to apologize to Palin in person at an event in Pennsylvania and at one of her book-signings in New York, but he didn't confront Palin or her family.

When explaining how he contacted Cole from a phone with an Alaskan area code, Shawn said he purchased a pay-by-the-minute phone for which he could select the number and area code. He figured someone in Alaska would pick up a phone call from a number with a local area code. He said he called Palin's mother from the same number in an effort to reach Palin.

Palin and Cole have requested a long-term protective order. A hearing on that request is scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 13 before Anchorage Master John E. Duggan, according to the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman newspaper.

Frontiersman: Restraining order issued against Palin, Cole stalker

An Anchorage judge issued restraining orders yesterday against Shawn R. Christy on behalf of Wasilla residents Kristan Cole and former Gov. Sarah Palin, according to court documents.

Cole said she became concerned about Christy’s letters and e-mails 15 or 16 months ago, but it ended up in court yesterday after the man called her to say he was in Alaska.

“When someone sends you proof that they’ve purchased weapons. Proof that they know where you live. And said that they are looking into purchasing a one-way plane ticket to Alaska and then calls from a cell phone with a 907 number, it’s over the line and we need protecting.”

Wasilla Police Department also helped the two families put together a safety plan, she said.

Inside Sarah's Circle: 1. Meet Kristan Cole

First in a series in which TX4P profiles the people close to Gov. Palin.

On the home page of the Alaska Fund Trust website, there is a quote from Kristan Cole, who is the trustee of the new official legal defense fund for the Alaska Governor's office. So who is Kristen Cole?

We learn from a Greta Susteren interview that Cole shares a close friendship with Gov. Palin that goes back to 1970 when both women were elementary school children. They now live just seven miles apart, and their friendship has grown closer since both have grown, married and had children. In private, Cole calls the governor "Sarah," and Gov. Palin calls her "Krissy."

Kristan Cole is married to Brad, and like their friends Todd and Sarah, the couple have five children. She's a licensed single-engine private pilot and likes to ski and play golf. Like Gov. Palin, Cole has competed in beauty contests. She won the Miss Alaska pageant in 1982 and was Mrs. Alaska in 1988.

Trustee Cole double majored in real estate and finance at the University of Arizona, and she received her MBA degree from the University of Alaska in 1995. She has 25 years of experience in the real estate business and was a successful small business owner of a firm where she headed up a team of about 15 people. She sold the company she had purchased from her mother after building it up and then went to work for a large statewide agency, where she is in charge of its Wasilla and Palmer opperations. When asked what had made her more successful than others, she answered, "Hard work and leadership." Her prescription for success?

"Get up early, work as if it depends on you. Pray as if it depends on God, be outward focused not inward focused. Make sure that others get what they want first and you will get what you want. Be a great leader. Leadership is the difference between success and failure."

Cole has a history of community involvement, and she has served on a number of boards and commissions, including the boards of two hospitals, the Alaska Royalty Oil & Gas Development Advisory Board, the Alaska Real Estate Commission and the Agricultural Revolving Loan Fund. She currently chairs two panels, the Board of Agriculture & Conservation and the Creamery Corporation. She is also involved in charity work, most notably for the Children’s Miracle Network.

Now Kristan Cole has one more important title to add to her resume: Alaska Fund Trustee.
