The Palin Plan to Rescue the U.S. Economy

A bona-fide pro-working man’s plan to empower the job-creators
*
In her speech to a TEA Party gathering in Iowa Saturday, Sarah Palin outlined a five-point plan to Revive, Renew, and Restore the American economy and allow the nation's real job creators to put the country back to work. Here's an excerpt of the Palin Plan taken from the full transcript of her address, as posted at SarahPAC.com:
So, let’s talk about real solutions. I want to tell you what my plan is. My plan is a bona-fide pro-working man’s plan, and it deals in reality. It deals in the way that the world really works because we must talk about what really works in order to get America back to work.

My plan is about empowerment: empowerment of our states, empowerment of our entrepreneurs, most importantly empowerment of you – our hardworking individuals – because I have faith, I have trust, I have respect for you.

The way forward is no more politics as usual. We must stop expanding an out-of-control and out-of-touch federal government. This is first: All power not specifically delegated to the federal government by our Constitution is reserved for the states and for we the people. So, let’s enforce the 10th Amendment and devolve powers back locally where the Founders intended them to be.

Second, what happened to all those promises about staying committed to repealing the mother of all big government unfunded mandates? We must repeal Obamacare! And rein in burdensome regulations that are a boot on our neck. Get government out of the way. Let the private sector breathe and grow. This will allow the confidence that businesses need in order to expand and hire more people.

Third, no more run away debt. We must prioritize and cut. Cancel unused stimulus funds, and have that come to Jesus moment where we own up to the debt challenge that is entitlement reform. See, the reality is we will have entitlement reform; it’s just a matter of how we’re going to get there. We either do it ourselves or the world’s capital markets are going to shove it down our throats, and we’ll have no choice but to reform our entitlement programs. The status quo is no longer an option. Entitlement reform is our duty now, and it must be done in a way that honors our commitment to our esteemed elders today, while keeping faith with future generations. I don’t think anything has irked me more than this nonsense coming from the White House about maybe not sending our seniors their checks. It’s their money! They have paid into Social Security all of their working lives; and for the President to say, “ah, we may not be able to cut their checks,” ah, well, where did all their money go, politicians? It’s like the Commander-in-Chief being willing to throw our military under the bus by threatening that their paychecks may not arrive. But the politicians will still get their checks and their secure retirements, and he’ll still get his posh vacations. Aren’t you just sick to death of those skewed priorities? It’s all backwards. Our seniors and our brave men and women in uniform being used as pawns – I say it’s shameful, and enough is enough. No more.

Fourth, it is time for America to become the energy superpower. The real stimulus that we’ve been waiting for is robust and responsible domestic energy production. We have the resources. Affordable and secure energy is the key to any thriving economy, and it must be our foundation. So, I would do the opposite of Obama’s manipulation of U.S. supplies of energy. Drill here, drill now. Let the refineries and the pipelines be built. Stop kowtowing to foreign countries and dictators asking them to ramp up production and industry for us, promising them that we’ll be their greatest customer. No, not when we have the resources here. We need to move on tapping our own God-given natural resources. I promise you that this will bring real job growth, not the politicians’ phony “green jobs” fairy dust sprinkled with wishes and glitter… No, a hardcore all-of-the-above energy policy that builds this indestructible link between made-in-America energy and our prosperity and our security. You know, there are enough large conventional natural resource development projects waiting for government approval that could potentially create more than a million high-paying jobs all across the country. And this is true stimulus. It wouldn’t cost government a dime to allow the private sector to do these. In fact, these projects will generate billions of dollars in revenue. Can you imagine that: a stimulus project that actually helps dig us out of debt instead of digging us further into it! And these are good-paying jobs, and I know that from experience. For years my own family was supported (as Todd worked up on the North Slope) by a good energy sector job. America’s economic revival starts with America’s energy revival.

Fifth, we can and we will make America the most attractive country on earth to do business in. Here’s how we’re going to do this. Right now, we have the highest federal corporate income tax rate in the industrialized world. Did you know our rates are higher than China and communist Cuba? This doesn’t generate as much revenue as you would think, though, because many big corporations skirt federal taxes because they have the friends in D.C. who right the rules for the rest of us. This makes us less competitive and restrains our engine of prosperity. Heck, some businesses spend more time trying to figure out how to hide their profits than they do in generating more profits so that they can expand and hire more of us. So, to make America the most attractive and competitive place to do business, to set up shop here and hire people here, to attract capital from all over the globe that will lead to an explosion of growth, instead of chasing industry offshore, I propose to eliminate all federal corporate income tax. And hear me out on this. This is how we create millions of high-paying jobs. This is how we increase opportunity and prosperity for all.

But here’s the best part: To balance out any loss of federal revenue from this tax cut, we eliminate corporate welfare and all the loopholes and we eliminate bailouts. This is how we break the back of crony capitalism because it feeds off corporate welfare, which is just socialism for the very rich. We can change all of that. The message then to job-creating corporations is: We’ll unshackle you from the world’s highest federal corporate income tax rate, but you will stand or fall on your own, just like all the rest of us out on main street.

See, when we empower the job-creators, our economy will soar; Americans will get back to work.

This plan is a first step in a long march towards fundamental restoration of a strong and free market economy. And it represents the kind of real reform that we need.

Jedediah Bila: Sarah Palin rocks Iowa

"My plan is a bona-fide pro-working man’s plan… My plan is about empowerment…"
*
Sarah Palin delivered her much-anticipated keynote address at Tea Party of America’s “Restoring America” rally in Indianola, Iowa, Saturday. Here are some excerpts from Jedediah Bila's latest column at The Daily Caller:
Palin took on President Obama’s failed policies and proclivity toward crony capitalism, stood firm in her support for tea party principles and rekindled the 2008 RNC speech she gave exactly three years ago today.

Consistent with her 2008 message, the former Alaska governor and vice presidential nominee reminded Americans today of the danger of politicians who follow a do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do motto. Palin, whose record features persistent and successful efforts to tackle a corrupt political class, articulated the necessity of challenging the status quo in order to battle corruption and effectuate genuine reform. She shared the frustration of many Americans with regard to business as usual in D.C. Most importantly, she offered real solutions, including a plan that serves as a stark contrast to our president’s perpetual empty rhetoric: repeal Obamacare, uphold the Tenth Amendment, rein in overregulation, prioritize significant and legitimate spending cuts, cancel unused stimulus money, “own up to the debt challenge that is entitlement reform,” tap into our God-given energy resources and make America “the most attractive and competitive place to do business” by eliminating all federal corporate income tax, corporate welfare and loopholes.

Some highlights from the speech:

[...]

“I’ve seen this kind of crony capitalism before … I took on a corrupt and compromised political class and their backroom dealings with Big Oil. And I can tell you that sudden and relentless reform never sits well with entrenched power brokers.”

“When we finally did get slapped then with that inevitable downgrade, the politicians and the pundits, they turned around and blamed us … they called us un-American … and suicide bombers and hobbits?”

“The only future that Barack Obama is trying to save is his own reelection, and he has shown that he is perfectly willing to mortgage our children’s futures to pay for it.”

“Like you, I’m not for sale … I believe in the free market and that is why I detest crony capitalism. And Barack Obama has shown us cronyism on steroids. It will lead to our downfall if we don’t stop it now.”

Des Moines Register: Full schedule for ‘Restoring America’ rally

Gov. Palin will speak at about 1:15PM
*
Jennifer Jacobs at the Des Moines Register has more on Saturday's TEA Party Rally featuring Sarah Palin:
A grassy field in Iowa will become the scene of a fiery festival of conservative rhetoric and patriotic music Saturday, while television cameras capture the event for a nationwide audience.

The star attraction, Alaska Republican Sarah Palin, will speak at about 1:15 p.m. at the Tea Party of America’s “Restoring America” rally in Indianola, organizer Charlie Gruschow told The Des Moines Register today.

Palin won’t reveal during the event whether or not she intends to seek the 2012 GOP nomination, CNN’s Peter Hamby reports. But the event falls on the three-year anniversary of her address to the Republican National Convention when she became the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, he notes.

The actual program is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. but bands and vocalists will begin at 10 a.m. to entertain those who arrive early, Gruschow said.

The rally is free and open to the public but parking is $5 a car.

Quote of the Day (September 1, 2011)

Palin Will Blast ‘Compromised Political Class’ in Iowa
*
Robert Costa, at NRO:
“Sources with knowledge of Sarah Palin’s prepared remarks tell National Review Online that the former Alaska governor will castigate Washington’s ‘compromised political class’ when she addresses a tea-party rally in Iowa this weekend. Palin, sources say, will not use the venue to launch a presidential campaign. Instead, Palin will ‘offer a serious critique of crony capitalism and President Obama’s economic record.’”

ABC News: Saturday Palin Speech Will Be a ‘Full Throated Defense of the Tea Party’

"...a substantive, big-picture vision of America."
*
Shushannah Walshe and Sheila Marikar report, based on yet another anonymous "source close to Palin" that she’ll offer a “full throated defense of the tea party” in her Iowa speech Saturday:
“Regardless of what she decides to do, this rally is for the tea party to kick off this campaign,” the source said, “this” being the 2012 presidential campaign.

ABC News has also learned that Palin’s speech will reference themes from an Aug. 8 Facebook post called “Conquering the Storm.” It discusses the Standard & Poor’s downgrade of the nation’s credit rating and her solutions to the country’s financial woes.

A source close to Palin told ABC News last week that her speech at Saturday’s “Restoring America” event will be a substantive, big-picture vision of America. Palin herself alluded to what she’ll discuss on Aug. 25, when she tweeted a link to a YouTube video entitled “Obama Lies 7 Times In Under 2 Minutes!” and wrote, “I’ll be talking about this and more on September 3rd.”

Palin is slated to be the last speaker at the Tea Party of America’s Saturday rally, which will also feature the likes of Iowa Tea Party chairman Ryan Rhodes, radio host Tony Katz and Los Angeles-based comedian Eric Golub.

Scott Conroy: Palin Will Attend Iowa Rally After O'Donnell Is Disinvited (Again)

“The primary concern of the governor is the people that are coming to this event.”
*
After a day that saw numerous anonymous sources, all claiming to be "close" to the Palin camp, and all quoted by reporters for several news outlets, now Scott Conroy of RealClearPolitics says one of those sources has confirmed that Sarah Palin will indeed attend the Tea Party of America event in Indianola, Iowa as scheduled this Saturday:
"We had some long discussions with the organizers; we talked about our concerns and worked them out, and they stepped up their game today," the Palin source said.

Two sources close to the former vice presidential candidate had told RCP earlier Wednesday that Palin’s involvement in the rally was “on hold,” due to concerns over how the hosts were handling what has been billed as a major event.

“The primary concern of the governor is the people that are coming to this event,” one source had said. “The planners are an issue that’s gotten in the way.”

The organizers caused a stir over the last couple of days when they first announced that former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell had accepted their invitation to speak at the event before Palin. They then disinvited O’Donnell before re-inviting her to do so.

After Palin’s associates made it known that Palin was reconsidering her participation, the organizers once again disinvited O’Donnell.

An O’Donnell aide told RCP that the former GOP candidate for senator in Delaware had texted Palin to ask about the rapidly developing situation but had not received a response.

While it is clear that O’Donnell’s proposed speaking slot was not acceptable to Palin’s camp, the Palin aide denied that anyone on the Palin team had explicitly demanded that O’Donnell be removed from the speaker’s list.

Palin’s concern arose, the aide said, when an O’Donnell aide suggested to event organizers that Palin wanted the Delawarean to share the stage with her.

“They haven’t spoken in over a year,” the aide said of the two women.

Des Moines Register: TPoA makes changes at Palin’s staff’s request

“We’re all friends and she’s not coming,” he said, referring to O’Donnell.
*
Des Moines Register chief political writer Jennifer Jacobs reports that Christine O'Donnell, who was invited, uninvited, and the re-invited to the September 3 event in Indianola, IA, has been uninvited again, and Sarah Palin is a “maybe”:
In the latest episode in the drama over the speaking lineup for Saturday’s Tea Party of America rally in Iowa, organizer Ken Crow said Palin’s staff called this morning to say Palin’s appearance at the rally was “on hold” until three changes were made.

“They said, ‘Ken, can you take care of bing, bing, bing’ and I said, ‘Yessir, I will’ and I did,” Crow, an Indianola Republican told The Des Moines Register.

“Now I’m waiting to [hear] back.”

Crow said two of the requests were logistical details: Email a copy of the program today, and address concerns about back-stage security and who will be allowed in that area.

Asked about the third request, Crow said: “Can I let that remain private for now?”

Meanwhile, Crow telephoned staff for O’Donnell, a Delaware Republican who ran for the U.S. Senate, to say she can’t speak at Saturday’s event.

ABC News: Palin’s Saturday Speech Still On, Tea Party Founder Says

TPoA's Crowe: “We made mistakes and now we are fixing them. It’s all good.”
*
Sheila Marikar and Shushannah Walshe report that Tea Party of America founder Ken Crow told ABC News this morning that he had talked with Gov. Palin's people via telephone this morning and “she’ll be here on Saturday”:
“Gov. Palin is a lady of her word and impeccably honest,” he added. He admitted that the organization’s encountered “a couple of errors” in planning the Sept. 3 rally.

“I’m naive when it comes to politics and what you are supposed to say to and not say and my crew and I are rookies at this sort of thing,” he said. “We made mistakes and now we are fixing them. It’s all good.”

Multiple media outlets reported this morning that Palin had backed out of the “Restoring America” event, but still planned to be in Iowa on Saturday. The rally’s undergone a lot of upheaval this week: Failed Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell was invited to speak before Palin, then had the invitation rescinded, and on Tuesday night, “humbly re-accepted the re-invitation” to speak, according to her Twitter account.

Crow called the handling of O’Donnell a “mistake.”
Now there's the understatement of the month.

RCP: Palin's Participation in Iowa Rally 'On Hold'

Final decision expected later Wednesday
*
Scott Conroy reports at RealClear Politics that Sarah Palin has not cancelled (as a Wall Street Journal story claims), but is "rethinking" her commitment to participate in Saturday’s Tea Party of America rally in Indianola, Iowa. Conroy cites "two sources close to the former Alaska governor." One thing which seems clear is that the Palin team is having "going disputes" with event organizers:
"It's on hold," one of the sources said of Palin's participation. "There are some planning issues regarding the hosts and some concern that the invitation that was proffered is not the event that is now being put together."

The Tea Party rally is expected to draw thousands of Palin supporters -- many of them from out-of-state -- and a potential cancellation from Palin just three days before the event could throw a significant wrench into her efforts to pave the way for a potential presidential run. Palin has indicated that she would make her final decision on whether to launch a White House bid by the end of September.

Sources close to Palin said that the former vice presidential candidate will likely be in the Indianola area on Saturday, whether or not she attends the Tea Party of America rally.

“The primary concern of the governor is the people that are coming to this event,” a source close to Palin said. “The planners are an issue that’s gotten in the way.”

The rally’s organizers have caused a stir over the last couple of days by first announcing that former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell had accepted an invitation to speak at the event before Palin. Organizers then disinvited O’Donnell before re-inviting her to speak once again.

Previously, the organizers had publicly suggested that Palin might use the rally to launch a White House run -- a prospect that sources close to Palin have sought to dial down.

Conroy says a final decision on whether Gov. Palin will participate in the Indianola rally or instead appear at a separate event of her own will likely be made later today.

WSJ: Palin Appearance at Iowa TPoA Rally ‘No Longer Confirmed’

Update: WSJ has corrected its story
*
The Wall Street Journal, which earlier cited "a person close the former Alaska governor," reported that Sarah Palin has canceled her September 3 appearance at a tea party rally in Indianola, Iowa:
The person cited “continual lying” from event organizers at Tea Party of America, including a recent mixup over whether former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell of Delaware would also speak.

Ms. Palin is known for last-minute schedule changes that whipsaw supporters and media across the country. But the latest decision is puzzling. Ms. Palin’s speech at the rally was viewed as her most high-profile appearance of the summer, fueling speculation she was indeed plotting to run for the Republican presidential nomination.

Attendees were reportedly traveling from across the U.S. to attend the rally in Iowa, which holds the nation’s first nominating contest next year.

The former governor will now appear at a Friday event in Des Moines sponsored by the group Conservatives4Palin. It is currently scheduled for 8 p.m. at The Machine Shed Restaurant, though the location will probably have to be changed, the person close to Ms. Palin said. Ms. Palin is still scheduled to appear at a Tea Party Express tour stop Monday in New Hampshire.

Ms. Palin may still hold an event Saturday, the person said, though she has no firm plans. It’s also possible she could still attend the Indianola tea party rally, the person said.

The Palin team made the decision to to back out Tuesday night after event organizers re-invited O’Donnell to speak, according to the Journal's first report. Now WSJ has revised the first two paragraphs of its original story to read:

Sarah Palin’s Saturday appearance at a tea party rally in Indianola, Iowa, is on hold, a person close the former Alaska governor told The Wall Street Journal.

The person said Ms. Palin’s appearance was “no longer confirmed” and cited “continual lying” from event organizers at Tea Party of America, including a recent mixup over whether former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell of Delaware would also speak.

The organizers had booked O’Donnell, but had withdrawn the invitation to try to avoid controversy. Then they re-booked O’Donnell and claimed they did so on the word of Gov. Palin, but the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate's aides say that is not true. WSJ's source also claims that the Palin camp had further issues with event organizers, including fund-raising and logistical changes that were made without the governor's approval.

Scott Conroy, via Twitter, was the first to report that the original WSJ story was "inaccurate" and that Gov. Palin has not cancelled, but rather her appearance at the event is "on hold."

According to Tea Party of America, the venue of the Restoring America Rally with Sarah Palin scheduled for September 3rd has been changed to a more suitable location.

The new location -- the Indianola Balloon Grounds just south of Des Moines -- should present fewer logistical challenges, and the new vennue is close enough to the original site that travel plans should not be affected.
