Sarah Palin: Another 'WTF' Obama Foreign Policy Moment

Giving Away the Farm
*
Obama foolishly believes that the U.S. can buy cooperation, if not friendship, from other nations by "giving away the farm." When what he wants to give away is our missile defense, it is no longer a laughing matter, but a deadly serious issue. Governor Palin's commentary on this question was posted early Thursday morning on her Facebook Notes page:
Another “WTF” Obama Foreign Policy Moment

As Governor I fought the Obama Administration’s plans to cut funds for missile defense in Alaska. So imagine how appalled and surprised I was to read this article by former Clinton CIA Director James Woolsey, appropriately titled “Giving Away the Farm,” concerning President Obama’s latest bizarre actions relating to missile defense.

President Obama wants to give Russia our missile defense secrets because he believes that we can buy their friendship and cooperation with this taxpayer-funded gift. But giving military secrets and technologies to a rival or competitor like Russia is just plain dumb. You can’t buy off Russia. And giving them advanced military technology will not create stability. What happens if Russia gives this technology (or sells it!) to other countries like Iran or China? After all, as Woolsey points out, Russia helped Iran with its missile and nuclear programs. Or what happens if an even more hardline leader comes to power in the Kremlin?

We tried buying off the Kremlin with technologies in the 1970s. That policy was a component of “detente,” and the hope was that if we would share our technologies with them, they would become more peaceful. Things, of course, didn’t work out that way. The Kremlin took western technologies and embarked on a massive military building program. History teaches that peace comes from American military strength. And a central component of that has always been technological superiority. Why would President Obama even dream of giving this away?

Members of Congress saw how foolish President Obama’s gambit was, so they put a section in the defense appropriation bill that specifically forbids the federal government from spending money to share these technologies with the Kremlin. President Obama actually threatened to veto the defense appropriation bill over this section of the law! Fortunately, the House passed the bill with a veto-proof majority, a whopping 322 to 96. Attention now turns to the Senate.

Why is it that President Obama seems to work so hard to give things to our enemies, while at the same time asking friends and allies like Israel to make sacrifices?

During these tough economic times when we are facing massive deficits and a competitive global economy, does President Obama really want to give away technologies that the American taxpayer paid lots of money to develop? Giving away our missile defense secrets won’t make us safer. What it will do is create a situation where we are facing an arms race with ourselves. Russia gets access to our technologies, and we are forced to spend even more money because of the need to stay ahead. Does this make sense to you? Me neither. File this under “WTF.”

Sarah Palin Was Right #14: Missile Defense - Russia and Iran

- by upinak

I wrote about Russia a few days ago concerning Iran and why Russia doesn’t seem to care. I also noted that something was amiss, and here it is: Russia said no to sanctions and now is allowing Iran to have a preemptive nuclear option. No regulations, no sanctions, nothing. What is Russia getting out of this deal?

Breitbart shed some light on the situation:
The interview appeared in the daily Izvestia during a visit by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, as U.S. and Russian negotiators try to hammer out a nuclear arms reduction treaty by December. It also came amid grumbling in Moscow over U.S. moves to modify plans for a missile shield near Russia's borders rather than ditch the idea outright.

Patrushev said a sweeping document on military policy including a passage on preventative nuclear force will be handed to President Dmitry Medvedev by the end of the year, according to Izvestia.

Officials are examining "a variety of possibilities for using nuclear force, depending on the situation and the intentions of the possible opponent," Patrushev was quoted as saying. "In situations critical to national security, options including a preventative nuclear strike on the aggressor are not excluded."
As did Reuters:
"There is no need to frighten the Iranians," Putin told reporters in Beijing.

"We need to look for a compromise. If a compromise is not found, and the discussions end in a fiasco, then we will see," he said, adding that talks of sanctions was "premature" at present.
This stinks, worse then a dead elephant in the room. And what is worse is the fact that Obama is letting Russians visit our nuclear sites. WHY????

Via Foxnews.com:
Russia and the United States have tentatively agreed to a weapons inspection program that would allow Russians to visit nuclear sites in America to count missiles and warheads.

The plan, which Fox News has learned was agreed to in principle during negotiations, would constitute the most intrusive weapons inspection program the U.S. has ever accepted.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who met with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, said publicly Tuesday that the two nations have made "considerable" progress toward reaching agreement on a new strategic arms treaty.

The 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, or START, expires in December and negotiators have been racing to reach agreement on a successor.
There are two start agreements, START 1 and START II. The Fox report refers to START II. But take a look at the title on the State.gov website:
THE TREATY BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND THE UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS ON THE REDUCTION AND LIMITATION OF STRATEGIC OFFENSIVE ARMS AND ASSOCIATED DOCUMENTS
Interestingly, all of a sudden it seems that Russia wants to look into this. Putin has been around for a while, so why the sudden interest? I believe it has to do with that Russian-Iranian alliance, that was forged in 2005. Yet no one really talks much about it in the U.S., even now.

Sarah Palin was right about Missile Defense here at home. But is anyone listening? There is good cause for concern.

Sarah was right: Missile defense Part 4 - Russia & Iran

*
- by upinak

Russia has an interesting relationship with almost all other nations. She has never been one to back down from a fight, but something has been amiss in Mother Russia lately.

The Jerusalem Post published this interesting article concerning Russia and Iran, presenting two theories why Russia has no fear of the Persian state:
First, Iran is primarily a threat to Israel, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. The mullahs will increase regional tensions and strengthen Russia's position there. Good relations with Iran could position Russia as a mediator between these countries and the Islamic republic. For example, the recent cancellation of the deal to sell Iran anti-aircraft complexes was used to leverage Russia-Israel relations.

Second, Russia can use its relations with Iran as a bargaining chip in opposing the United States. The latest events demonstrate how, by changing its position toward sanctions, Russia achieved its goal: getting Obama to cancel the AMD program and reversing the previous US administration's policy.
I think there is more to it then just what the Jerusalem Post has stated.  Russia is a country that uses other countries to gain what they consider power, or a stepping stone of power.  The Russians like to test other countries, such as when they probe American and Canadian airspace with their Bear strategic bombers, for example.  But this isn't just about America and Canada.  Russia is constantly checking the boundaries of what it can do to judge how other countries react, including Pakistan.  The Russian Bear is playing with fire and grinning from ear to ear while doing it.

Imposing sanctions on loose cannons such as Iran will not make much of a contribution to regional stability, especially when nuclear arsenals are involved. Such a measure may only make it more difficult for those nations that are trying to keep the peace.  Hillary Clinton is also on the front end of the situation, but there is something which just doesn't add up. Stating that Secretary Clinton never asked for Russia's help seems odd to me in light of another article which states that she said no to the Russians. Something is not right.

And yet here we sit, without what should have been a missile defense, waiting to see what will happen.  Meanwhile, the Russians say they do no want sanctions on Iran... The 64 Megaton question is why not? Hmm.

Sarah Palin Was Right #12: Missle Defense - Pakistan

- by upinak

If anyone has been keeping up with The Palination (my own blog), you may remember how I sort of pieced together how Russia, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, and China seemed to be working toward some type of exchange of oil, nuclear items and weaponry.

But I also mentioned Pakistan. What was the deal with that nation?

Well, on Drudge report, I spied something concerning Hillary Clinton and how she is downplaying Pakistan's nuclear arsenal. This, IMO, is not a good idea:
Clinton said extremists were "increasingly threatening the authority of the state, but we see no evidence that they are going to take over the state. We have confidence in the Pakistani government and military's control over nuclear weapons."

Miliband told reporters at a joint news conference with Clinton that although Pakistan faced a "mortal threat" from extremists, there was no danger of its nuclear weapons being compromised.
And of course this from FT.com:
Attackers in army uniforms struck at the headquarters in Rawalpindi on Saturday.

The strike was the third major assault in a week – after bombs in Islamabad and Peshawar – in an apparent campaign to deter a planned army offensive against Taliban strongholds in the country’s Waziristan region along the Afghan border.
Particularly worrisome is that I purposely had to put Pakistan in the last "Palin-was-right" blog entry on missile defense as a question mark. Why? Because we really do not know what may come about. They are hated by India, as Pakistan was once part of India when it was part of the British Empire, and India now has nuclear abilities as well. Kashmir, which was once claimed by both Pakistan and India, tries to avoid getting caught up in India and Pakistan's power struggle.

Pakistan has its problems, including a weak government and a small military half-infiltrated with men who just want to go to Paradise ASAP. Also, the government does not have much to say about the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Pakistan appears to be only a few steps away from being totally overrun by the Taliban. The world's news media seems to be downplaying this alarming fact.

Keep an eye on Pakistan.

Sarah Palin Was Right #8: Obama's Missile Defense Cuts Are Reckless, Part 2

I mentioned a couple days ago about the problematic issue with Iran, its nuclear facilities and missiles, while Obama is dismantling ours. It's a situation which shows that Sarah Palin was right about missile defense.

Now that we have been threatened by North Korea, which bluffed and now warned by Iran… how off is Sarah Palin now concerning Missile Defense in our own country? Even Defense Secretary Gates is beginning to wonder what the deal is and is saying that letting Afghanistan go is a bad idea, even after the administration and Congress ended production of the F-22 air superiority fighter. What is Congress thinking now? Meanwhile, Obama seems to be letting the Gitmo detainees out one at a time to keep from drawing attention.

It really doesn’t matter. We are at the mercy of what Iran's mullahs may do. Israel has long urged the U.S. to stand up and take action, but sadly it looks as though the tiny democracy is on its own. But the United States is under the missile bubble as well. Yet Obama just grins and campaigns as usual, this time for an extended school session. Isn’t there something more pressing than worrying about the length of the school year? How about keeping Americans and their children safe?

I also mentioned that Venezuela is seeking its own uranium, possibly with help from Russia. I said that China would be involved. It seems I was right about that as well, but one country that I thought would be on our side, India, is preoccupied with building up its own nuclear arsenal, and it's anyone's guess when Pakistan is going to get into the mix.

So while all this is going on in the world, we should be on high alert. But, no, House Democrats are too focused on their push to give healthcare to illegals. Where was Obama's plan to grant them U.S. citizenship?

None of this is good news. In fact, this is depressing news. Is there anything positive about the Obama Administration's lemming march over the cliff?

I hope Sarah Palin and others who value the nation's security, will we speaking out on these issues at upcoming events. This is not the time for silence, nor is it the time to look past the issues that are staring the world in the face.

As I was writing this, the Iranians fired two medium range missiles. Say an Our Father. (The 23rd Psalm might also be appropriate. - JP)

From Reuters.com:
Iran has test-fired medium-range missiles, state TV reported on Monday, a day after the Islamic Republic's elite Revolutionary Guards launched short-range missiles as part of several days of war games.
So, Mr. President, should Americans be concerned about the mad mullahs and their missiles yet?

Quote of the Day (September 27, 2009)

Jim Vicevich:
"As it turns out, Palin wasn’t the one we had to worry about when it came to foreign policy. It was the One... I can assure you she would not have given up the missile defense in Europe without something in return. Come to think of it, she wouldn’t have given it up at all."

Sarah Palin Was Right #7: Obama's Missile Defense Cuts Are Reckless

Today as I watched the blogs, the news, and any reports coming in I noticed that only a few places seemed to be alarmed about Iran, until Ahmadinejad started fielding questions -- FoxNews.com, HotAir.com, and DrudgeReport.com. Jawa Report and a few of the blogs that keep an eye on radical Islam always have something, so when it bleeds over to the more main stream and conservative media, it is worth taking notice. It has now gone viral, even in Europe.

Nuclear weapons, yellow cake uranium and the fact that Iran has two different areas in which they are converting the uranium into weapons grade, for nuclear weapons. And now Venezuela is helping with the search of yellow cake uranium for itself and I am sure with Russia’s help as well as China’s and possibly North Korea, well honestly is scares the absolute shit out of me. Please excuse my language. I don't scare too easy. I have been almost stomped by moose, charged by grizzlies, in two different commercial plane crashes and washed down rivers as well as almost drowned three different times. This is more adrenaline-pumping than any of those. Especially since we, as in the United States, have known about it for years. Great!

The process to get the yellow cake uranium into weapons grade takes months and sometimes over a year. Even then it is slow as they have to slow down the process due to temperature that can make the uranium stable enough to assemble into a warhead. It can take quite a long time. Three years is about the longest, but it has been known to take about nine months to build a complete nuclear weapon.

Sarah Palin had already chastised Obama about the missile defense. God help us as we know he and Gates didn’t listen to the warnings. Now we are in a quandary. What can we do, since most of us hard working Americans KNOW Obama will not do anything for the sake of America and Americans?

Do we stock up on food, water, ammo, fuel, as well as blankets and clothing?

Should we be worried? Or let the supposed “intellectuals” take this power struggle to its fullest extreme?

Honestly, I would rather be like the song I am listening too then have to worry about this. But this is what we are dealt with. I hope it doesn’t come to anything... caustic.

Palin supports Senate bill to restore missile defense

A Senate bill to restore missile defense funding under consideration this week has Gov. Sarah Palin's full support. Earlier today the governor messaged her Twitter followers:
"Defense Dept plan to stop progress @ AK Ft Greely missile silos may be reversed w/new Senate bill. I'll support efforts to halt defense cuts"
The Obama Administration had proposed a $1.2 billion cut for missile defense, and the U.S. willingly complied in its version of the National Defense Authorization Act for 2010.

According to the Heritage Foundation's website NationalSecurity.org:
The 32 percent cut in interceptors protecting US soil from North Korea, Iran, and other rogue threats represents a major decrease in the security of American citizens. The cuts to important programs will inhibit progress towards a comprehensive missile defense program.
Gov. Sarah Palin and Alaska's U.S. Senators Mark Begich, a Democrat, and Lisa Murkowski, a Republican, have been urging the administration to make all of of the silos at the Fort Greely missile defense complex fully operational as originally planned.

More on this issue critical to the defense of the republic here.

Palin: Now is NOT time to cut our defense

In response to North Korea's recent actions,  Gov. Palin tweeted today:
"More N Korea nuke tests: why consider US missile program cuts now? AK military program helps secure US. Now is NOT time to cut our defense."
Anyone with at least a grain of common sense would agree with the governor. That group, unfortunately, doesn't include the president and many of his fellow Democrats.

Palin: Missile cuts 'send the wrong message'

In a letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin expressed her concerns about his proposed cuts in the Missile Defense Agency's budget:
The Honorable Robert Gates
Secretary of Defense
1000 Defense Pentagon
Washington, DC 20301

Dear Mr. Secretary:

I would like to express my deep concern over your proposed budget cuts to the Missile Defense Agency. In these crucial times of rocket design and technology development by North Korea and Iran, I believe the global missile defense shield is more important now than ever.

Critics of this program believe that we are wasting money on a system that does not guarantee success. However, to ensure our security, our freedom, and our American way of life, we must continue to be diligent in developing technology that can expand to protect us from multiple threat targets.

Your announcement of a proposed $1.4 billion reduction of the Missile Defense Agency's budget is not the best decision for today's threat environment. Alaska is committed to supporting continued missile defense implementation at Fort Greely and the development of future technology through our Kodiak Launch Complex, which has access to the Gulf of Alaska Maritime Exercise Area. This unique training space offers a safe and secure location to further develop and test future missile intercept technologies in conjunction with the latest sea-based and land-based radar.

With the strategic location of Alaska in the Pacific Theater, I believe we have the capability, the man power, and the willingness to protect the sovereignty of the United States and can continue to improve the global missile defense shield. Fort Greely's isolated location in Alaska allows for maximum security and development of the country's premier ground-based midcourse missile defense complex.

I am deeply concerned with North Korea's development and testing program. It has the clear potential of impacting Alaska, Hawaii, and possibly the West Coast with a nuclear armed warhead. I can't emphasize enough how important it is that we continue to develop and perfect our global missile defense shield.

Alaska's strategic location and the system currently in place have proven invaluable in defending this great nation. Any cuts to the sole missile defense system for the United States has the potential of sending the wrong message to our adversaries with the unintended consequence of placing our nation at increased risk of offensive missile threats in the future.

Sincerely,

Sarah Palin
Update: Jim Geraghty at NRO's Campaign Spot observes:
It appears Sarah Palin has found a foreign-policy issue and a Washington national-security fight that she can weigh in on regularly.
Indeed, no small thanks to the Obama Administration.

Meanwhile, at DraftPalin2012, Stephen Maloney says:
Gov. Sarah Palin is now leading the national resistance against Barack Obama's policies of socialism and appeasement.
Just wait until the end of the legislative session, when she can devote her full attention to making Obama, Inc. look bad.
