Gov. Palin will finally get to New York this weekend

Her plans for her last scheduled trip to the Empire State were rudely interrupted by the Yukon River and its triutaries, which produced the worst flooding ever recorded in Alaska, but Gov. Sarah Palin will try again this weekend. Provided Redoubt doesn't blow it's top or something else of such magnitude occur, the governor will travel to New York for two events. Unlike the ones she had to cancel, these will take place not in the Big Apple, but in Cayuga County and on Long Island.

As we first reported back in March (when this blog had a different name and url), Gov. Palin was invited to Auburn, NY to help the city celebrate the 50th anniversary of Alaskan statehood. Auburn's own William Seward organized the purchase of the land that first made Alaska U.S. territory.

The Auburn Citizen describes the governor's Saturday schedule:
Palin will be a guest speaker at a noon ceremony in front of Auburn's city hall following a morning parade. In the afternoon, she will be a guest of honor at a fundraising event for the Seward House.
Sunday in St. James, Gov. Palin will be presented with an award from a New York group that advocates for people with developmental disabilities. The Independent Group Home Living Foundation (IGHL) will honor the former GOP vice presidential candidate on Long Island.

The organization selected the governor as its 2009 honoree for her support of families who have children with special needs. the governor and her husband Todd are the parents of Trig Palin, a special needs child with Down syndrome.

IGHL says the Sunday fundraising gala will also marks the organization's 30th anniversary. The Foundation serves more than 5,000 children, adults and their families.

  1. Does anybody know if her 12 noon speech in Auburn will be televised on CSpan or anywhere else?

  2. Don't know if the speech will be televised, but I'm sure it will be tapes, and be on the net within hours, same with the Long Island IGHL gala. The IGHL is expecting 1,000 people. I'm hoping for a huge turnout in Auburn. The fundraiser is to be held in the house and garden, which reportedly holds about 400-500 people. $250 to get your picture taken with the Gov, and $100 for general admission to the event. I'll be most will spring for the picture for $250. I hope her speech at the IGHL gala is as effective as her Evansville speech.
