Gov. Sarah Palin will sign a bill Monday naming the new Capitol annex after Judge Thomas Stewart, announced Juneau legislators Rep. Beth Kertulla and Sen. Dennis Egan.The building, which is being renovated with completion expected in the fall, will be named the Thomas B. Stewart Legislative Office Building.
The public signing ceremony will be held at 10:15 a.m. on the plaza of the Dimond Courthouse across from the Capitol.
The building, formerly known as the Scottish Rite Temple, was purchased by the city and turned over to the Legislature as part of a strategy to make Juneau a more accommodating location for the capital.
Stewart served in the Territorial House of Representatives and later as a senator in the legislature following statehood.
He was a Superior Court judge and one of the leaders of the Alaska Constitutional Convention.
Last night the governor posted this update on Twitter:

ReplyDeleteBut let's assume Whitman is elected. She'd be governor of the biggest state, a brainy, conservative, accomplished woman at the top of the Republican ladder with precisely the experience that Sarah Palin lacks.
