We haven't seen the hard copy of the magazine yet, but the story on the People
website treats Bristol Palin fairly. It's out of character for the drive-by gossip media to say anything about the Palin clan without injecting a heavy shot of snark, so that alone is newsworthy. Here's an excerpt:
"Her mom may be governor, but there is no nanny in the Palin house. Bristol gets up – usually twice during the night – to feed Tripp, who sleeps in a hand-me-down crib in her bedroom, and she says she has tapped out at least one school paper with her son crying in the background... nd she worked two part-time jobs to help pay for the diapers and formula her parents otherwise supply."

I read this earlier, and was quite amazed that at least what they posted on the net wasn't a hatchet job. Matter of fact, it looks like it makes the Palins out to be quite the average family dealing with a tough situation. Bristol working 2 part time jobs, going to school and graduating, Tripp sleeping in a handmedown crib, all alone the family being very supportive.
ReplyDeletePeople has a circulation of about 4 million, and news stand sales are likely to drive it higher, they know stuff about the Palins sells magazines, why else have her on the cover. Mostly women read it, and women seem to have been a hard sell for Gov. Palin, and anything positive about her or her family will have an impact. Todd's been featured in Esquire, Men's Journal, Sports Illustrated (internet edition), and The New Yorker, all pretty good stuff.
I've noticed a proliferation of pro-Palin blogs and stories popping up, especially since the Gov's Evansville speech, her response to the Carrie Prejean situation, her appearance on American Chopper, her response to Notre Dame, and now her statement earlier today in support of Steele, and taking aim at 0bama. She's winning more and more converts along the way, putting the lie to the beltway "advisers" that she has to do this that or the other thing to be taken seriously. Palin can sit in Alaske, doing her job, and issuing occasional statements, and the net lights up every time. She's doing it her way, and it's working.
I like the cover and I admire Bristol but isn't it time to ease her out of the public eye?

ReplyDeleteAt least Bristol uses her fame for good! Can't say the same for Megan Mccain.
Greg, I've noticed that change in tone too. Suddenly, she's being taken as a serious candidate, at least more seriously than before. I think her Evansville speech turned the tide. Apparently, even Wolf Blitzer is speaking up for her! That's some change.
